The absolute point in time is just one which can't be changed without causing a paradox. In this universe, losing Christine is how Strange got his powers in the first place, so he can't use those powers to save Christine, or it'd be self-contradictory. So in our "sacred timeline" universe, Stephen injuring his hands would be the absolute point in time, unable to be changed without causing a paradox, and thus unable to be changed at all.
@jankasolis613 жыл бұрын
Also makes a lot of sense. Here we see strange and cristine are more close. Indicating tha he is a lot less selfish. In this universe if he had loss his hands probably wouldnt happen anything. But losing cristine was to much
@Cwronaga2163 жыл бұрын
Also if you think about it the absolute point was actually Strange losing what he loved most. In the original timeline he loved his career most so it was his hands that he lost. This strange chose his love life instead od his work. He was the opposite of ours.
@IceMetalPunk3 жыл бұрын
@@Cwronaga216 I'm not sure about that. In the movie, he did ask Christine to come to the event with him, but she turned him down because she had a "Strange Policy" not to date colleagues, especially him. "One life, one choice, one moment can destroy the entire universe." - The Watcher I don't think I will ever forget that line and That conversation between Strange and The Watcher at the end of that episode gave me chills man and to just see Strange crying "I'm sorry" when all the universe is destroyed because of him was heart rending and I was so sure things would work out but it didn't. What if...keeps getting better and better. I never expected an episode like this. It was genuinely scary to see Strange crack to the point where he sacrificed the universe and still never got the one he loved. But like The Watcher sticks to his job description man. He does not interfere. Somebody give the man a raise cause he is doing his job haha. (Me trying to joke because this episode really cracked my mind). Also the Watcher didn't reveal himself. Strange was just absorbing power for centuries that he got powerful enough to perceive him and even communicate with him. The Watcher doesn't interfere. WOW. Way to go Marvel for not being scared to cross the line.
Well there are many watchers and they aren't supposed to interfere but uatu, the watcher We are following, has interfered many times in the comics cause he has an admiration of humanity and believes they are worth helping.

The Warcher did interfere, he shouldn't have talked with Strange.
@kammy63403 жыл бұрын
@@laughmouth That didn't count as interference in my opinion. Lemme explain...Strange triggered an apocalyptic event and as Loki has taught us nexus events do not occur during apocalypses because everything is getting destroyed anyway so the Watcher talking to Strange did not count as interfering. Also, the watcher never spoke of his own Accord but replied to Strange. Strange was the one that beseeched him and he dignified him with a reply. In fact he specifically said he would like to help, punish Strange instead but he wouldn't interfere. That's how I see it anyway.

The two Dr. Stranges in this story are a perfect illustration of the Philosophy of the Jedi Order. The original is a self absorbed prick with no attachment to others and the skill to help others in rare and extreme ways. Once he loses his ability to use the skills he knows he draws upon his supreme will power attempting to regain his ability. In doing so he learns to feel humility and through that true compassion for the rest of the world. What if Strange is a great guy full of love and the skills of the original. Once his attachment is taken from him he turns from the benign nature of his skills and tries to replace them with a new set of powers to fill the void in his life regardless of the cost to himself or others.

I really love how none of these stories feel like they are holding back. It's phase 4. Sam Wilson is Cap, Wanda is The Scarlet Witch, and Loki is in Love with Loki, all with comic curate costume I might add. Nothing is too strange, and in both this and the last episode apparently nothing is too dark. Marvel at it's finest.

Sorry to DC fans, but Marvel proved long ago they can do fun better, and now they have proven they can do dark better too. Marvel is just killing it, while DC is just muddling along with one or two bright spots (Shazam, Wonder Woman (only the first) and maybe the new Suicide Squad).

The part that hit me harder about this episode, is that, at least in episode 3 we still have Captain America, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Guardians of the Galaxy...hope, as Nick Fury said at the end, but in episode 4, there's just Dr Strange, no time stone, no help, just him in a bubble in the nothing of his universe.
@Domura3 жыл бұрын
If this Watcher is supposed to be Uatu, then I very much doubt that anything we've seen in MCU so far could even begin to phase him. He'd be on about par with Galactus in power level, saying a Watcher is 'a God' isn't really idle conjecture; if he was killed by some means he could simply come back to life literally by choice, and he could very much cause whatever he wanted to happen to happen. Despite her power, Wanda wouldn't be able to do anything to The Watcher. Also, if it is Uatu, then he definitely interferes. Several times in fact. The biggest one off the top of my head is trying to conceal the Earth from Galactus, but he's been found to have interfered some 300+ times over the course of his observation of Earth despite his entire species driving ethos being non-interference observation. He's actually been put on trial for his fuckery by the rest of his kind for it throughout the comics, I would almost guarantee that the last episode of this season would be What If... The Watcher did interfere.

The very end really got to me. If anyone has ever felt extremely alone and very sorry for what they’ve done, I’m sure they can relate to this. Him saying “I’m sorry” repeatedly and so desperately as they pan out... it made me burst into tears. This was an emotional masterpiece.

I actually thought this was going to go in another direction. I thought that Strange would actually find a way to change an Absolute Point, by sacrificing his hands instead of Christine and erasing his memories, becoming our Dr.Strange. I was so hyped for my idea 😊

Benedict voiced the dragon Smaug in the Hobbit movies and has done other Voice acting work. So he’s easily the actor with the most VA experience. So it’s no wonder he did such an awesome job! Also can’t wait for the zombie au episode!!

I loved that this "What If?" introduced new things not seen before in the movies. It would be awesome to see the library and the new character appear in the sequel--or better yet THIS version of Strange! Also props to realizing that the Watcher talking at the end doesn't matter since the universe was about to end anyways (I've been seeing comments about this on my feeds as well).

Cumberbatch has a lot of experience with voice acting from audio books, poetry reading (ode to a nightingale), narrating tv programs (the South Pacific, BBC) to radio sit coms (check out “Cabin Pressure” a wonder of British radio sit com ❤) he knows how to work that voice…

That episode was deep, I love that the watcher appeared at the end and actually interacted with the protagonist of the episode, he interacted without interfering since the universe was going to end anyways and that's probably the only reason he even talked to or came in contact with Dr Strange in that one

I would guess a fixed-point is created by a subsequent event. For example, Stephen Strange becoming Sorcerer Supreme is such a significant event that it makes her death a fixed-point because it was his motivation.
@spunkymaniac93123 жыл бұрын
A fix point in time happens when the act of changing it is leading to destruction of the world or the act that change it is related to it to happen in the first place which is a paradox Example: strange gain his power only because he goes to kamertaj after the incident , he use this power to change what happened, but if that incident never happened then he never went to kamartaj so he never gain the power he used to change that incident , which gonna lead to a loop and a paradox in time

In the movie, he asks her to go to the event with him, and she says no, so he drives alone and hurts his hands. Here, she says yes. Whatever her motivation for saying “yes” was, that was the moment it changed. As soon as she decided she wanted to be involved with him, she became the most important thing for him to lose, instead of his hands. That’s why she must die.

The absolute point is that which would erase Dr. Strange as the Sorcerer Supreme. It's different from the rules of time travel, but similar. You can't kill the past version of yourself that leads to the current version of you-- the universe wouldn't allow it. Strange insisting on bringing Christine back eroded the universe/folded it upon itself. He basically accomplished the opposite of the Big Bang.

@@IceMetalPunk because there are multiple answers to that question? If there’s a version of Strange that let’s go to the past, then not every universe where Stephen loses Christine will result in its destruction
@IceMetalPunk3 жыл бұрын
@@angrymidgetlord9447 Yes, it does. Don't forget the important bit the Ancient One said (and the Watcher emphasized): these weren't two different universes. This was the same universe with two versions of Stephen, and because at least one of those versions became the Dark Strange Supreme, it led to the destruction of the entire universe for both versions. This isn't like the TVA's branches, or even like independent episodes of What If. They both occurred in the same universe.

I don't understand why some people don't get the absolute point of this universe. In the sacred timeline Steven is selfish and looses his hands. From there on he becomes selfless because he has a constant reminder of his mistake, the scars and trembling of his hands. But in *this* universe he was selfless from the start and thus didn't loose his hands. Instead of having a constant reminder of his mistakes, now he just feels like the universe took something from him. So, as the selfish Strange he keeps going back in time to prevent her from dying but that would prevent him from becoming the sorcerer Supreme in the past which would prevent him from being able to go back in time and preventing her death. So it's a paradox. He simply can't reverse her death because then he would have never got the time stone. Doctor Strange has to loose that which he chooses, in the sacred timeline it's his work and in this universe it's his love.
@simonschmidt99313 жыл бұрын
I have the feeling Strange Supreme will return for a revenge plot or something. Maybe the Watcher finally breaks his rule of not interfering in a future episode (he was almost trying to help Strange in this one) and Strange, being pissed about the Watcher helping others but not him, tries to take him down or something. Would love to see The Watcher vs Doctor Strange :D

When he finally saved her and apologized to the watcher for destroying the world I legitimately had tears in my eyes we saw our “hero” and his determination actually seem to be a bad thing and he failed drastically. This was dark and an emotional amazing episode. I never expected to come out of what if feeling this much emotion from what I thought was just gonna be some cool cartoon concepts lol.

Our MCU Scarlet Witch is not as powerful as this Dr. Strange Supreme... At least not yet. She's supposed to destroy the universe in the future according to the darkhold. This is an example how things can go wrong if you mess up with time and reality.

You misunderstand, it is nothing to so with how important an event Dormamu's consumption of the universe is or Thanos's snapping half of it. It is only a fixed point in HIS time because it was what motivated him to become the sorcerer supreme and have the power to change his past. Since that was the moment which sent him to become the sorcerer supreme changing it would mean he would never achieve the power that allows him to go back and change it. Thus it is the one thing not in his power to change.
