I have a 1947 chev six cylinder and the float and needle valve look very similar, works very well giving about 23 miles per imperial gallon.. I had to use a steel ball bearing to reshape the seat by striking ball with a punch and hammer will ball is sitting on the seat.

Just ran across your channel and hopefully you can give me some advice- I have a 1966 John Deere 2510 4 cylinder equipped with a Marvel Schebler Carb. And I have an annoying/strange problem with the carburetor that has stumped me since I’ve owned the tractor. First let me state the fuel gauge does not work hence my problem- if the tractor runs out of gas while I’m working with it and I re-fuel it the carb ALWAYS floods. And yes I already know what you’re going to say - Don’t run out of gas! Just like my doctor told me when I told him it really hurts when I do this- his answer was well don’t do that! And yeah I only occasionally run out of gas but every time I do and put more gas in it- it floods and it’s the only time it floods. I’ve taken the carb off and rebuilt it to no avail all other times the carb and tractor run fine. When it happens I have to disconnect the fuel line from the carb, drain the carb bowl and then disconnect the hose going to the air filter to drain the gas out of it, reconnect everything and it works fine. Every time it happens- I know it’s a strange problem but it’s just baffling because it’s the only time this happens.

One thing comes to mind. Lets say the gas tank has built up crud in the bottom and when the gas runs too low some crud gets up to the float valve causing it to stick open.

Everybody says a quarter inch but when I set mine at a quarter inch it floods out the intake. The original when I pulled it off, the tractor was set at almost 7/16 and I never had any problem with fuel rolling out the intake.

Help me understand how adjusting the tab on these carbs makes the float stop fuel sooner /later it seems adjusting the tab just allows the float to sit lower in the bowl but that doesn't actually make the float close the needle sooner if that is the only adjustment?, on most carbs such as a dirt bike or ATV the tab you adjust is the one that presses on the float needle which I can understand.

I have owned many 8n's and never had the carb problems I'm having with one now... No mater what I do the carb leaks all the gas out and it wont start. I am going to try the 1/4 adjustment and see if that will help me. I appreciate your channel.

The float won't cause gas to leak out of the bowl except when running and the float is way off. Typical problem is the needle in the seat doesn't seal. This is due to manufactures residue left on the needle. Wiping with mineral spirits will take care of that.

@@3rett115 I did adjust the float and that stopped the leak and I also stopped opening the gas up all the way. Appreciate you mike

There's a small spring that goes on needle and Attaches to float base but I can't figure out how it goes

You may be referring to the clip that attaches the float to the needle. hook one end to the needle. It usually has a loop. The other end simply loops over the float flange.

I have a tsx241b aftermarket and when I go up hills the carb dies. Could the float be closing off fuel when in an incline, can I confirm float is shutting off fuel and lastly can it be adjusted. It appears to be a Chinese aftermarket carb installed by previous owner.

The chinese carburetors have proved to be less than ideal so anything can happen. It could be the float level is off.

I have a MS carb on my 1958 Massey 50 tractor, I have put a kit in the carb but still have the same problem maybe even worse now when I throttle up the engine it wants to stall unless I pull the throttle very slowly after playing with it if I go to full throttle and it starts to stall I pull the choke out then it soothes out for a few seconds than I push the choke back in and it runs fine any ideas ?

look for a vacuum leak. Fuel filter may be plugged. If you have a gravity flow gas tank then the screen at the outlet might be plugged. Float level off possibly.

I have a inline 6 250 Chevy C10 with a single barrel carb, when starting it hesitates runs rough for a little and dies, to which then shoots out either gas, or smoke, or both. I took it to a local shop to which he found dirt and grime under the float in the gas. So we changed the fuel filter (one in the carb and from the line) and still having the same problem. Even after adjusting the fuel, do we keep adjusting or what should we do!?

I would look at the needle & seat. Might be dirt in there, or the vinton tip may be damaged.

I have a Ford Jubilee. I believe the float is sticking causing the fuel to not flow through the bowl as it should. Its a new carb with less than 2 hours on it. Should I remove the float pin and hit it with steel wool?

I would look at the needle & seat. The MS has a habit of these getting stuck. Make sure it isn't swelled up. Wipe with mineral spirits to clean any residue.

Is that a drain on the float boat pointed toward the glass fuel bowl?

Sorry missed this comment. The drain on the bottom of the float bowl doesn't point to anything.

Rebuilt mine tsx514 already still hard to start when replaced back on welder dont know what it is

No. You would need a downflow type.
