The Void is relatable. It exists in all of us in some way or form. As anger, bitterness, guilt, shame, loneliness, loss, failure, any negative feeling you can think of. This seemingly shining beacon of a superhero like Sentry having a dark side that he's trying to suppress is pretty cool.

@@swanliszt Have you never read Paul Jenkins run on Sentry, he is depicted as the quintessential Marvel hero who inspired every other hero but I acknowledge how his recent runs have been lackluster however I believe Sentry can be the hero people dealing with issues can look up to today way more than other characters if marvel decides to handle him much better than he has been handled. Paul Jenkins or Al Ewing need to come back and carry on their runs.

I just wish he had actually gotten to play around with the character for a while but usually I direct folks to Jeff Lemire's 2018 Sentry run if they want a fresh modern Sentry run comparable to the original Jenkins run which again was sadly rushed but even then so hype.Marvel is reluctant to actually use Sentry because they're hung up thinking he's a Superman pastiche when he's more related to Miracle Man. He could totally head line marvel if given a chance. He could be that Superman pastiche dealing with issues ordinary folks are dealing with and serve as an inspiration rather than being treated as a jobber or nut. What makes his treatment sadder for me is behind the scenes a lot of writers/editors actually like Sentry, I was shocked reading Tom Brevoort write a blog post going over the tragedy of the character, same with other writers but the pastiche hang up looms over marvel too much I guess. Sorry for rambling, Sentry is my favorite fictional character. I can talk about him all day.😭

Yeah, I always thought the Sentry was a really cool character from the start. The dichotomy between Sentry and the Void still has a lot of story potential in my opinion. If I were running Marvel, I would never have killed him off. Heck, I'd rather they killed the Hulk at the end of WWH storyline. I would have. That's the only realistic way it could have ended. I really loved the *idea* of The Sentry, and I'd love to see him come back. I hope a great team gets behind it and really takes their time to kind of full-proof a resurrection and continuance plan for him. He's got this potential to be the ultimate hero, but it comes with the price of snapping to the ultimate villain if the slightest thing goes awry. Maybe he could keep as more of a background character, with some featured appearances from time to time. Possibly small hints or clues of Void influence when things get out of hand, and mostly bring him in full-blown in his own ultimate crisis situations. Honestly, if The Sentry is having a crisis, (99% of the time) everyone else is too. Definitely bring him back, definitely keep the Watchtower and reset aspect, definitely find interesting work-arounds. Whether the defeat of The Void turns out to be a false memory turned out by the Watchtower or there's a more non-traditional rebirth that brings a new twist to his character, I don't want to be done with The Sentry and I think the Marvel Universe still has room to benefit from his presence.

I feel like it would be cool to have Sentry back, but if he does make a return, it would have to come with a tweak of his powers/character. My idea for this would be to say that his powers become suppressed because of his constant need to hold back the void. Similar to Deadpool's healing factor being dampened by it always fighting his cancer, or Cable's telekinetic powers being suppressed since he's always holding the organic techno virus at bay. Maybe give some cheesy explanation like "a part of the light that is my power has to be used to hold back the darkness that is the void" or something. That way he has to hold back when fighting or else the void will get out. They might already be doing that, I don't know, but if they are then just ramp it up so it has a real effect on his power.

His powers make no sense. A serum made him more powerful than Celestials? Like it was said, the superman complex. He shows up and wins. What kind of story is that? Some of the most interesting stories I have read is things like Iron Man in the middle of a fight getting his suit taken down and how he cobbles together an improbable escape using some clever trick that makes sense. Those are always fun. Another example would be The Watchmen when Ozymandias stays Dr. Manhattan's hand at the end with nothing but reason. That kind of thing is cool.

i guess the only thing that differentiates the sentry to all other powerful characters is that most of them hesitates. like the enemies, they're too talkative to end the heroes therefore defeating them instead, the heroes have this "moral compass" thingy that never really lets them kill the villains. while on the other hand, the sentry is on a different league. he keeps saying, i need to check the void in bay, but when they killed her wife he's like, "ok time to end everything" and without hesitation he just flips and kills everyone without talking. there's a difference between i want to hurt you and i will kill you. the "i will kill you" kind of guy always wins. the mindset is what really matters. then again this is cartoons and like dragon ball Z, author just keeps making character stronger without any reason at all. they just go on from point A to point Z whenever they want. lol.

This is why he's my favorite character in Marvel by far. He's not really a villain,but neither is he fully a hero. His split persona,his flaws are what make him great to me. He's basically what you get if some average joe would get the powers of a god,which is very realistic which i love about him. He tries to be a hero,but his greatest enemy,HIMSELF(or his dark side in this case) is what always trips his foot. So he is literally his own worst enemy,because in all the comics he appears in,there isn't really anyone who can stop him or stand up to him but the Void. And i honestly don't understand people constantly bashing him(while everyone universally praises Saitama from One Punch Man. Sure that character was made as a Joke to traditional anime tropes but still...) for being quite realistic as to what would happen if some random dude from around the corner were granted these powers. If someone who DIDN'T perhaps deserve these powers got them. Isn't that what happens in real life too? I;m a hardcore comics guy and I love the Sentry/Void. First, I loved how they first introduced him by "finding" lost comic pages that had him in them from the 60's. Brilliant. Then introducing him as Marvel's Superman was interesting, but making him Earth's greatest threat was awesome. I loved him. I love the idea of someone that powerful being so mentally unstable. With Dr. Doom, you know that he won't destroy the planet because he needs to live on it. With the Void, you have no idea what crazy thing he'd do.

This is what I didn't like about Black King. The fact that they brought sentry in early just to kill him off early to show how powerfull knull is then nerf Knull when he fights eddie brock when he's empowered with the enigma power or captain universe. I think that fight should of lasted longer ,with more back and forth on who was winning then when it looks like Knull is about to win have the other heroes step in and help with Dylan delivering the final blow or penultimate blow, maybe cutting knull off from the hive mind and then Eddie killing him.

Someone, stated it earlier but the logical story progression for a massively powerful character with such an anemic power acquisition story, would involve the void being the lead character, and Robert Reynolds/Sentry being disguise. Instead of the syringe formula granting him powers, it's actually used to keep him from accessing the part of his mind where the void exist. Add Doctor Strange, being forced to use the Sentry to contain or stop Dormammu from entering our dimension, or something along that line, but his characters power level would make more sense.
