Sorry for my english but considering that in the unreleased chapter, the Idea of evil claim to have been created by the concentration of negative thought or emotion of humanity, i'm note totaly sure, it would mean that in the astral world, emotion can take form and maybe create New entity, and considering that guts is always on the edge between the astral world and the real one because of the Mark, there is a possibility that the Beast of darkness became real, tho maybe i'm wrong.

Berserk uses the concept that idea's with enough belief can become real. These idea's become real after the eclipse event, and later on when Griffith is reborn they become reality. The berserk armour by taking away Guts' egos, leaves only the Instinctive drive underneath- the beast of darkness. The beast was born out of his desire for revenge no matter what cost, and his hate for Griffith. If guts took off the armour, the beast would be at bay. But the armor is his only way to level himself against the apostles. Consequently, the origin of the beast is the realised ID held by Guts post eclipse, and is a manifestation of his relentless anger and lust to destroy the world.

The Beast of Darkness (I prefer Hound of Darkness personally) was more so a spiritual manifestation of the Berserker Armor but also a representation of the wearer’s will/desires. That’s how I saw it. Let's not forget that Casca is partially responsible for the Beast's existence since she planted the idea of him lacking control when being violent. Until that point, Guts was more of a unified person, but after this, he saw his violent rage as a separate aspect of his self, which eventually did actually seperate and got turbo-charged by the Berserker Armor.

Thank you for creating a video discussing the Beast of Darkness! Guts' inner malice to me is an amalgamation of his trauma, PTSD and rage that accumulated throughout his life, and seems to be taking shape into a wild dog as Casca once described him. Interesting I've read from some fans that believe that Guts, his friends and Casca will one day go their separate ways due to this (and possibly if Casca remembers when he bit her in chapter 190). With what is happening in the recent chapter of the story, many fans wait with bated breath whether or not Guts will be consumed by his inner malice. Will his darkness cause him to hurt more of his friends or can Guts face his inner malice and overcome his negative emotions (possibly) manifesting within the Berserker armor.

One of the things that hit me hardest from the black swordsman arc, is that when he goads the counts daughter into taking her revenge one day, I think it's implied that he wants to give her the drive to battle through her trauma, even if it is fueled by hate. It serves to keep her alive and not end her life right then and there, just as Guts hatred for Griffith gives him the drive to continue. It truly hit me as both profound and tragic

The Shadow from Jung's theory is not equivalent of evil. It's more like animalistic dimension to human being. It's all which is related to our most primitive needs and urges. Not necessary always evil, because it's related also to our survival instinct and care about meet our most basic needs. And saying something isn't real, just because it's part of your psyche, is not objective. And you even mentioned Jung's theory of psychoanalysis which literally says that there are real independent psychological complexes which "has their own life". What is real in relation to existence as being? I'd say, real is that which has own agency in relation to reality, act upon this agency in relation to reality and tries to realize its agency in reality.

Guts is cooking the strongest demon slowly, thinking about it where do those mfs come from, someone must have become the first demon or idea of evil without behelits or the dawghand, and sure that person would be stronger than them since he's the one granting them power. Guts making a sacrifice is out of the question but even if he did, will he be able to defeat those who will grant him demon powers? Nah. But himself becoming a demon like the first demon was probably made might put him on par with it. And the fact that he's growing an inside demon and making his sword somehow magical from killing demons with his own hands, and his armor boosting the process may be a good proof.

@@jackdraconia Good point. I think the goal of the story is to break the cycle. Somehow or another, I think the godhand will be gone completely by the end of it. I think a compelling argument is that Griffith will betray them in an attempt to gain more control, and so they may not be a factor in the final battle at all.

this is a gross oversimplification of Griffiths emotions before and during the eclipse. After trying to choke Gatts he hugged him, after trying to force him self on Casca he was depressed. After he heard why gatts left he was suicidal blaming him self, his own words for driving his friend away. His suicide attempt was because he blamed him self for everything same as when a child soldier of his died in battle. When the eclipse was happening he though (probably wished to speak it but couldnt) that if gatts touches him he "will never be able" .... (probably see him again). When the God Hand appeared and explained the situation Griffith probably realized there was no other option than to say yes. Beings like that wouldnt just let them go. It was either all die for no reason or all die for him to gain power. Plus God Hands manipulation and the Idea of Evil's words pushed him even further. Griffith loved the band of the Hawk i cant stand people who just butcher this complex character and simplify him to be a cold blooded psycho.
