This is one of the most memorable fictional characters alongside Goku from the DB series, Saiya from Knight of the Zodiac, Ichigo Kurosaki from Bleach, and Yusuke Urameshi from Yu-Yu Hakusho. I remember one of my favorite quotes from Bloodlust at the end. [at a funeral, a young girl spots a stranger] Girl: Hey, mister! Wait! Mister, wait! Um, excuse me, sir, but I was wondering if you knew my grandmother Leila... Yes. It's you, isn't it? My grandmother told me about you. So, I'd be honoured if you could come to our house. My father would be so happy... D: I appreciate the kindness. Girl: Oh, come on, we don't live very far... D: I just came to keep a promise I made to an old friend. She was afraid no one would mourn her death. I'm glad she was so wrong. Girl: Okay, I guess I see... anyway, thank you for coming. [D smiles at her, and rides out] Girl: Goodbye. Goodbye! Left Hand: Well, that was nice. You're not so bad after all... you just dress bad.

On TV we had series like robotech, battle for the planets/Gachaman, and Voltron but they were all on TV so you didn't really think about it being from a different country. It was then back in the early 90's where company called Orion released the JAPNESE ANIMATION COLLECTION and it had classics like Vampire Hunter D and Fist of the North Star. Crazy that the biggest factor why Bloodlust didn't sell many tickets in US theaters was because of 9/11 and the anthrax attacks happening the week before. Even though there were only like 12 total theaters showing it, there was enough hype built over it at cons over the previous 2 years that they were certain it would be profitable to gave a box office release in addition to a DVD release instead of a straight to DVD release. I had bought tickets as a teen for myself and a bunch of friends to the showing in Chicago and had to cancel them. Barely anyone felt safe enough to go to school, let alone downtown Chicago.

D’s left hand belongs to a race of symbioses called the countenanced carbuncle. It is the same race as the gigantic wolf muzzle in the abdomen of Mashira, the werewolf in bloodlust. I discovered Vampire Hunter D via the manga. I had seen merely a page online and its artstyle intrigued me. I went down the rabbit hole and fell in love with the universe. I never enjoyed reading much, but I decided I *had* to pick up the first novel (not the manga, the OG novels) and tbh people should really check them out. While Kikuchi's style can sometimes be a bit strange, the world he writes draws you in immediately. His books are very atmospheric. It's no wonder why the VHD universe translated so beautifully to a visual medium. That, and Yoshitaka Amano does the cover art for the novels (You may recognize Amano for his concept art and title-icon paintings for the Final Fantasy series). Between the beautiful manga, anime, cover art, and written work of Vampire Hunter D, I have to say it has become my absolute favourite vampire series.

The first anime.... following the novel... ehh yes and no... i guess you could say the main strokes of the story is the same. But many of the smaller details have been changed. A few of them is 1: Crosses. No human in the books wears them. The reason is that they simply don´t know its effective against the vampires. Same with garlic and the moment they find out that knowledge is erased from their memories. 2: Larmica is not a dhampire herself, she´s a noble through and through. 3: Rei-Ginsei doesn´t show up until much later and he has three other companions. The big brute, the guy with spiders in his back and an old lady that can summon horrible visions. the old woman is killed by Doris and Rei kills the big brute and the spider guy is killed by D. 4: Rei is not killed by count Magnus lee, but rather by D himself. and finally the way Magnus lee dies in anime is different to the way he dies in the book, where die basically snaps Lee´s sword and stabs him through the heart. That´s probably the biggest difference between both animes and the books. D NEVER goes Super Sayian, not because he won´t but because he can´t since he doesn´t have that power. In the books D uses mainly his sword and martial arts to kill his foes. He doesn´t have any specials powers aside from his strength, knowledge and speed.

Ive read a majority of the books. I like its a Vampire story butndosent delve into all the homoerotic stuff in most vampires works (although its said D is so beautiful EVERYONE desires him, but not exactly in the sexual way)

@@LeftHandEats its actually its in the Young Adult (Male) category. I've read the novels and both the movies are tame compared do them such as Demon Death Race, the movie Blood Lust is based on. The brothers aren't really good guys and she's not their friend or sister even tho they may say so,she is a abused sex slave and it kinda get a little deep.

Why isn't this talking about the books? Thought this would be an interesting video, not a beat for beat summary of the media outside the novels

I'd love to see a live adaptation of this story but with the current state of things, I'm afraid it would just get ruined...

Problems with this video: mispronouncing Llarmica and referring to the LN and Manga as adaptations of the two anime productions. The anime were loosely based on the LN, while the Manga was more closely adapted from the LN.

Basically my childhood mmo lol, but its crazy you never even mentioned BOT. It's the main cause the downfall of RO at least in my country. BOT was so rampant that one people can manage tens of accounts, eventually crashing the economy and hunting spot in general..
