Well, the fact that Ares is a villain in every western fantasy makes you think that people care more about the background and appearance of something than its real qualities and traits. So Wonder Woman to be another bastard of Zeus is kind of expected showing the lack of creativity of the current era. You know what would be interesting is how Theseus in some myths is said that Poseidon possessed Aegeus and as a result, he has two fathers and one mother. What if Zeus ordered Hera to possess Hippolyta and as a result, Diana would be the daughter of all three? She would also be Hera's daughter so the old problem will not be there. Before getting disgusted by this idea remember how was Wonder Woman creator had a relationship like that. Or I don't know what if all three Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades would donate sperm and be mixed with clay or something like that.

From what I learned in High School and later literature classes it depends on the myth's origins, but some had the male children exposed and others had them given over to their fathers to be raised in all male tribes. In many ancient Greek cultures the males and females lived in separate accommodations within the houses of the wealthy. The male children lived with the mothers until they reached puberty and then they were moved over into the male side of the compound and learned to be warriors. The serfs, or peasants weren't as selectived I guess as I read very little of their lives. It seems to be that the Amazons took the separation to the extreme with the male children being either left to survive or not being exposed in the wilderness or being handed over to tribes of males living apart from the Amazons. Funny thing is in some of my research on the ancient world in the Eastern Mediterranean there was amongst one of the ancient kingdoms a band of warrior women who may have been the source of the Amazon myths. My memory is not as good as it once was so I do not recall the name of the kingdom.

An actual mythology what really happened was Heracles went to the Amazon's island nation as one of his 12 labors he was to retrieve the girdle of the Amazon queen. He respectively requested the girdle and the queen granted his request in exchange for making love to her. Heracles consented to the agreement and upon his ready departure as the queen was saying her goodbyes to the son of Zeus the goddess Hera deceived the Amazon Warriors of the island telling them that Heracles had murdered their Queen and has stolen her girdle they launched an assault charging towards the beach Heracles saw this as a betrayal and killed the queen and then fought the Amazon Warriors. Obviously they were no match for the son of Zeus so upon their defeat he Enslaved the survivors as a punishment. I don't understand why DC felt they had to edit the story into what became their version. The Heracles of myth was not that brutal. He had an anger management problem that is established in the myth but he had honor and a sense of right and wrong and justice.

This may sound weird, but the TV series, WW went from the WWII era (the 40s) to the Disco Era (the 70s) as the show switched from ABC to CBS. In the 70s era WW, she was helping Steve Trevor Jr., the son of Major Trevor. I started reading about the origins of WW as I grew older, and came to a theory about Steve Trevor Jr., he was WW's son!! If you think about it, in the Return of Wonder Woman TV movie (which introduced the show to CBS), Trevor Jr. tells WW about knowing her thru his late father's stories, but never mentioned his mother. My theory was that somehow Steve Sr. found out about WW's true identity and they got together; she gave birth to Steve Jr. and knowing that her infant son would not be welcomed on Paradise Island, she left him with Steve Sr. Steve Sr. then raised Steve Jr., telling him his mother died in childbirth while she returned to Paradise Island after WWII ended. She was trying to protect Steve Jr. from what happened to other males born in her world, and she trusted Steve Sr. to raise their son until the time was right for her to return. The plane crash on Paradise Island reunited Diana/WW with her long-lost son, and she decides to return to DC to look after him while helping him defeat Cold War spies and terrorists. Definitely would have been a shocker of a storyline for WW and Steve Jr. had the show continued, but it was the 70s and would have been too much for the viewers back then.

The Amazons are an immortal race of women created by Aphrodite and a couple other goddesses, They don't need to reproduce so most of the time they just don't. But there are ways to make more Amazons, And in most continuities this isn't it. The Amazons have a well of souls where the souls of dead women get reincarnated into Amazons. For some Amazons like Wonder Woman or Nubia that can also be sculpted by clay and brought to life. Wonder Woman is also only really the daughter of Zeus in the new 52 and the DCEU, Before that she had no dad, she doesn't need one. In modern continuity it's suggested that the zeus origin was a lie, and it's been mentioned multiple times that she's made of clay. Personally I prefer when the Amazons and Wonder Woman don't have father's, the addition always comes off as unnecessary but especially in the case of the new 52, The Amazons aren't rapists.

That’s why when darkside invade Amazon island in one of comics book issues and in the animated movie. I always cheer for darkside. When the omega beam killed entire Amazon battalion, I thought karma just came back hard on them. I know they suffered, but seriously they could have made horrible event as a life lesson. Become better than man, be example of what a true hero is and show the world of man their love, self sacrificing, and respect for life. But no! Instead of following the perfect example of Batman, yes him. He truly shows, with great suffering, you can overcome anything. If you put your mind into it. They could have been a better race, that we as men could hope to achieve. But their nothing but a total disappointment, and should be discarded by the gods.

Hel is norse. Hades has nothing to do with Hell either. Hes not evil not devil like simply got the short stick when the gods overthrew their father Chronus and got stuck with the underworld. I know its a hard concept for our country hence Disneys version basically being a wheeling and dealing devil but he didnt have to do anything for souls. Bad or good souls went to the underworld.

*Amazon, or AmazonIAN?* This has been grating on me and it's so common I'd assume it was a matter of fact or used interchangeably... but can any DC expert clarify? I assume, that the Amazons, a collective term, are ThemyscirANS, the suffix identifying them as natives of the named location, Amazon being the collective term for the humanoid female culture, biology and civilization. _A plant from Themyscira would be a Themysciran plant, not an Amazonian plant. And while Thanagarians are from Thanagar, Kryptonians are from Krypton, are Amazonians from 'Amazon'?_

This "history" is very much a retcon of the original story, and this "modern" interpretation is very much rife with fear of female power, and the notion that there were men enslaved on the Amazon island is in direct contradiction to the original history. The presence of any man on the island threatened the continuity of the island itself. It's a shame that DC allowed the Amazon history to be twisted for mere plot points.

A crime is a violation of a law, but if such law doesn't exists, no crime is committed. The Amazonians may be immoral in some standards, but in their culture, it's very well acceptable. Diana see it as wrong or immoral only because of her interaction to the outside world and she didn't experienced the heinous acts that the other Amazons had experienced. In some way, Diana is out of touch from the reality of the Amazonian. This is why the Wonder Woman story is very compelling, the reader understood the Amazonian even though they may not agree with their methods, which made the reader more attached to the struggles and pains that Diana faces. Although the movie adaptation is great, they lost the fundamental characteristics of Wonder Woman. And please, her name is pronounced as Hee-poh-lee-tah, not Hee-pho-leh-yah or Hee-pho-leh-nah. Nevertheless, great video.

Also give her beauty inside and outside. Hermes give the gift of speed and flight. Athena give the gift of wisdom. Demeter give her strength of the earth. I think there were 2 more. But I can't remember and my comics are packed away. Goggle only helping a bit. One more thing. In ancient Greek myths there 2 story's I know with the death of hippolyta and the amazon's. Both were accident, kind of. One is in Borth story's the Prince of power and the amazon queen respected each over. kidnapping and theft. In the dc comics they made hercules a brute. But I think W. Marston was making a point in 1941. Good show. 👍😊
