Never saw Solo, but I read the book... if I remember right in the book Solo wasn't technically combat-ready, the mission was basically being used as a live-fire test. Battle damage caused the direct link to base to go down, and the on-board AI developed a more complex and complete personality than they believed possible, eventually deciding the local people deserved to be protected.

In 1993, in Germany, Robot Wars was released as Robotjox 2. At the Beginning of Robotjox 2 there was even a collection of scenes of Robotjox 1 with a Text that described what happend after the Battle of Achilles and Alexander (Peace, Contracts, everyone was happy, I was about to spit up and the MRAS 2 was built). It has close the story-arc between this two films. I read this was made in germany only. Some years ago I found the films Robotjox, Robot Wars and Crash & Burn. But renamed as Robotjox 1, 2 and 3.
