Can we just talk about the fact that Matt Smith as Daemon was the best casting choice EVER. That man was able to carry the entire 3rd episode and didn’t even speak a word. His facial expressions and how he portrayed that situation showed us everything we need to know about Daemons character. I can’t praise Matt Smith enough for his acting skills. The others are excellent but Smith is giving me so much more then I expected. Like wow. Think about that. What was your most prominent memory from the third episode? I know mine was Daemons battle, and he did that without even speaking a word the entire episode. IM LOVING THIS SERIES. I wanted more Targaryens and we got it!

I totally agree, and was apprehensive at first (I thought it would be hard to see Matt Smith as Daemon). Daemon Targaryen is an S Tier Martin character, it's awesome to see him played so well. He's going to be the Peter Dinklage of the series.

Saying Alicent's situation is "either/or" commits a logical fallacy. Very rarely in life do humans have only two choices, and people are complex. Rhaenyra is not trying to help when she stomps around like a child. By episode 3 Rhaneyra is 17-19 years old. She needs to act more like an adult if she wants to be seen as a worthy heir to the throne. And she needs to learn about poltics and diplomacy. Rhaenyra is ignoring the political realities of Alicent's situation prior to her marriage. We also need to remember that Rhaenyra has more agency and gets away with more than ANY other female in the Seven Kingdoms because she's the princess - and even she is limited by the systems in place. It would be nice for people who allow Rhaenyra to be a complex and nuanced character to do the same for the rest of the characters - including Alicent.

Some people who never read the books may not realize how Daemon is shown on TV is basically how he was written in the books. Hence, why he became an immediate fan favorite. According to GRRM, Daemon is dashing, daring, and dangerous with a hot temper. Hence, why he was beating the crap out of that messenger and has been labeled a grey character. He's a bad boy but he can also be charismatic, compassionate, and charming.

The one thing I don't like about Rhaenyra is how she's doing everything she can to not look like a good heir. I get she's young and has the "fire of the dragon" but it's pretty frustrating to see her complain about her younger brother replacing her when she hasn't done anything to show her wanting to be a Queen one day.

I was thinking that this narrative would explain why Laenor’s participation in the Step Stones was omitted. Laenor sides with the Blacks/Rhaenyra in the civil war, and history was written by the Greens. Omitting and/or minimizing the contributions of your enemies is par for the course.

5:30 I don't think that "birthright" is a good term here. Being a woman, Rhaenyra doesn't have much of a birthright in regards to being heir. Had her brother Baelon survived, for instance, he would become Prince of Dragonstone, not Rhaenyra. This kind of birthright is only for an heir apparent, which Rhaenyra isn't by birth.

Anyone know what the point of showing Viserys's finger injury? Nothing was mentioned after and then the time jump of 2 years, so obviously the finger is fine, so what was the point of that at all? If it was something else, or even greyscale, it would have been mentioned again, plus greyscale would be too much with Crabfeeder also having it.

He actually lost two fingers in the time jump, but wears gloves constantly so it’s not super obvious. His injury was caused by a cut from the throne in episode 1.

That combined with a weakened immune system from inbreeding could also cause his symptoms. As we saw with Daenerys, Targaryen’s who are considered Dragons have special abilities. Heat/fire resistance, some sort of super immunity (Daenerys was not affected by the Pale Mare when it afflicted Meereen).

7:03 "archaic law of male primogeniture" Why is it archaic? For instance, as far as I know, the kingdoms of England and France did not have male primogeniture at the beginning. If we're talking about ASoIaF, the Starks seemed to prefer an adult uncle to a young son, so not male primogeniture. The Targaryen succession doesn't seem clear either; was Aegon the Uncrowned really heir over Maegor? Visenya, one of the founders of the dynasty, didn't seem to think so. Yes, she's biased, but that doesn't necessarily make her wrong. Maybe you're talking about Andal law, which indeed appears to require male primogeniture?

She’s surrounded by male figures and she’s exposed to the fact that only males ever lead, and her leading style follows how the male leaders in her life are. Rhaenyra got no reason to do that. She’s described as the Realm’s delight for a reason.m, because she get along with everyone and she’s well settled into her position as a Princess. Her adventure with Daemon is very out of character compared to her early years, which might be the reason why initially so many people were on her side.

GOT made many changes to the books that fans had no problem with and which enhanced the story for some viewers. Plus this book is a historical text and it didn't have scenes or dialogue, so writers must fill in the gaps and I think they're doing a great job. Plus a lot of book readers say this show feels much more accurate to George RR Martin's world.

Seasons 6 to 8 sucked because they draaaastically diverged from the characters as written in the books on top of running out of source material. Seasons 1 to 4 had major differences from the book that impacted the narrative and character arcs: Tyrions's relationship to Shae, Cat not coming back from the dead as a ghoul/ghost, Messandei being 10 years old, Mance Raydar still being alive, Rob actually being in love with his wife (who isn't a lady from Essos btw) and the list goes on
