A certified GENIUS. It seems Hollywood is now snubbing this imagination Titan. I hate horror because most of them are just cheap jump scares, but Guillermo Del Toro is so artistic in his creations you'll be drawn in.
@mermaid_at_heart2133 жыл бұрын
I mostly agree, however, if you seek out films that aren't typical Hollywood-esque just made fast and for a profit instead of artistic vision there are a multitude that don't just rely on lame jump scares. Unfortunately, a lot of movie-goers are fine with just getting scared by jump scares, so many filmmakers take the easy way out. Personally, I can't stand the jump scares that are just loud noises with nothing to be really afraid or creeped out by. Jump scares don't usually get a reaction from me, but I do get startled by the sudden really loud noises, and I don't consider that being afraid. It's more of a sensory overload for me.

Horror is not just one genre or way of film making. If you want more disturbing and less jump scary movies.....watch stuff like hereditary, midsommar, it follows...etc...but that doesn't disqualify horror films that have jump scares. Atleast I'm assuming you're referring to those fluff pg 13 cheap horror films? If so, then I agree.
@kpamiose3 жыл бұрын
@@TheEnigmaticBM39 Jumpscares have their place in horror and are integral part of the genre. However, relying too much on them without context in order to just to create a temporary "scare high" or adrenaline rush is just juvenile. I absolutely love Guillermo's work, and I wish I could tell him that he's kept something rare in film making very alive. I understand that all of them have to make some money, but even if you didn't have pressure from producers or controlling egomaniac actors, bringing what you create in your mind to the screen must be incredibly hard these days. There are endless obstacles that most let cave in the process from dream to screen. Even long ago when they hadn't the means and technology to create what they can do today, people like Ray Harryhousen and others before him made effects and films that thrilled me when I was a kid, and you could tell they were trying hard to just tell you a tale, and give you beyond your money's worth. They simply wanted to let you see what they saw in their mind, and many film makers today can't say that. They slap together what they think everyone expects, and not only is it spineless to do that, it's a rip off for us and makes a crappy film. Hats off for Guillermo!

The angel of death in Hellboy 2 is the most accurate depiction of an angel we’ve had in almost all of cinema. It’s great to see things like this as a Christian who wants accurate depictions of angels as they are described.

The Pale Man from Pans Labyrinth and the Crimson Phantom lady which was crawling, from Crimson Peak scared the shit out of me when I was younger, I had nightmares and paranoia for weeks and months after watching it... doesn’t help when I’ve watched it multiple times, but I can’t help it cause I’m such a sucker for monster/horror movies
@kennethsatria66073 жыл бұрын
The protein talk made me notice the monsters in his movies are often extremely present in the story as their own characters and in the world, not just a creature to fight even when that is the main objective, and usually you really get a good look at them despite that old rule the less you see is better. Like the pacific rim kaiju, they may be clone made but are still designed distinctly despite the close relation, in that first movie they show a level of intelligence and cunning at every major encounter through their body language and some facial expression, as well as other emotions relating to anger or hatred towards their enemy just as much as the pilots often express, its kind of treating them like soldiers. This kind of stuff is unseen in other enemy monsters of modern movies, the White Spikes for example despite a cool design are kind of bland in the way of characterization and by extent their designs as they operate as a hive or a pack its also just all disposable clones.

Fun fact: Del Toro has room in his house where it rains from the ceiling. I find that all insanely creative people have some odd connection with water. The man in China with the most invention patents gets most of his ideas under water and the average person gets them in the shower.

The Reapers remind me of the Strigoi from The Strain. I'm aware The Strain came out later, but when I was watching this video, I mistook the Reapers for the Strigoi. They are kinda similar in some ways, but also different.

Well its not a coincidence, since The Strain, was also created by del Toro

It’s so cool to see that the Reapers from Blade heavily inspired the Strigoi from The Strain!! It’s such an underrated series (I’ve yet to read the books and I’d imagine they’re probably better but still)

Can we also add the ghost/creature from the 2013 movie "Mama"? The movie was directed by Argentinian director Andy Muschietti but the executive producer was Guillermo del Toro. I really liked that movie.

Doug Jones is the most under-appreciated actor in the world next to Andy Serkis. Just because they are hidden behind make-up or CGI they don't get the praise that they deserve so much. When you are so limited by that it is so much more impressive how expressive they are in their roles. For me the creature that stuck mostly in my head was the tooth fairy in Hellboy. Even if they are fully CGI, they left an impression on me.
