Sorry I have to disagree. So many continue to die because of hate. How many died in Chicago This last weekend. I know. Do You? And It wasn't racism! It was HATE! It was hearts filled With HATE instead of love. Barry Gordy AND Dr. King both knew That Love was The answer. Racism only lives on IF WE CHOOSE to GIVE IT A VOICE! (Hollywood is good at That). So RIP to all of Those who had to die due to hate That comes in ALL colors. There will always be intolerance unless WE LEARN TO TOLERATE. And Lulu, I lived in The 60's. Did You?

The young ones in here don't that Marvin was singing about the Vietnam War as well.. He talks about war and escalation of the war. It was a powerful song in the early 1970s. I was 18 in 1971 and there was so much anti-viernam war sentiment then. (Kind of acknowledging the hippies.. Talking about long hair etc.)

"What's Goin' On?" Marvin Gaye One of the most gorgeous melodies of all time! One of the most powerful in the meaning it seeks to convey. Some would dismiss a story with a message as allegory; and allegory as pedantry, or even insidious inculcation. To these, I call you to bring to the stage the suffering you feel and see! A narrative of the heart bringing forth what the soul bears is not allegory, it is testimony. One of the most poignant in the pathos and the suffering it highlights for all to see. Even those who deny what the true majority know.

Bottom line is until we humans remove, or give less relevance and importance to violent acts as solutions to sticky issues of conflicts in our social relationships, we are doomed. AND all important is the fact that proper relationship with each other means we listen, respect, and love our fellow humans, not even thinking how hard or easy it is. How we relate to each other, to animals, to nature, to widlife, name it...everything IS relationship, and we must heed just what that means. Do we hide behind a wall of our views/ideologies, or do we try to share and understand? Again it depends on a proper relationship, not based on ego. Peace

BRILLIANCE, GENIUS. I believe with All My Heart that Marvin knew we’d be having the Injustices, Violence, and the ongoing Racism today, just as it was back in the 50’s and 60’s and 70’s and on. Since he fought so hard for this song, I think he was trying to bring us together BEFORE these things reached the place where we are today, 2022. He knew we desperately needed to get IT together, and all of us to get together before we reached this point. I am no scholar, but I know that we MUST ALL JOIN TOGETHER IN THIS U.S.A., no matter if we’re Black, Brown, White, Red, or Yellow, we ALL MUST EMBRACE our Brothers, and Sisters in this Land. They are coming for us! Who is “They” you say. Take your pick; China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, Iraq, and so on. I truly believe that there is a majority of other nations on this Earth that want to take the U.S. down, or want to see us be taken down. What would be the best thing to happen in the U.S., in the opinions of these enemies, to be able to take us down, or for them to conquer this country? The division of the United States, “by it’s own citizens.” People, we can’t stand by, with HATRED for other Americans in our Hearts, and be destroyed and/or conquered by an enemy. What better way for the U.S. to be conquered, than to divide us against each other. Change MUST begin in this Great Country, for us to continue to stand as a Sovereign state. I for one, want my Grandson to be able to be an American his entire lifetime. I believe YOU DO TOO! So, let’s embrace each other instead of having hate in our hearts for another American simply because their skin is another color, or they believe differently than we do. HATE and STEREOTYPING and PREJUDICE MUST BE ABOLISHED IN YOURS and MY LIFETIME for US TO SURVIVE. LET’S JUST CHOOSE TO LOVE and SUPPORT EACH OTHER!!!!! P.S. I know I strayed from the subject, but I think anyone that may have taken the time to read this “book” knows my point.

I watched the 40th Anniversary of Motown and when they got to Marvin, he was talking about how this song was God inspired... Apparently So!! And for some reason, I finally deciphered that in between the Chorus, he wasn't saying Sista', he was saying SYSTEM... THAT SEALED it up for me... Indeed, it was God inspired...

In 2020 we have HER with 'I Can't Breathe'. In 1963 we had Sam Cooke with 'A Chage is Gonna Come'. In between, we had Marvin with 'What's Goin' On'. Before that, it was Billie Holiday's 'Strange Fruit'. Same message over how many years? When are people going to listen?

Marvin Gaye was such an incredible singer, so thanks for posting this song and the lyrics I don't think that anything can be accomplished with violence.
