I’m a product demonstrator for Marvins Magic! I demo these things, and yeah they’re a bit weird to “draw” with (aaand as an artist myself it bugs me a lot!) The bags are filled with wax, on the stand I’ll often have a little heater to heat it up a bit and make the colours pop more! and the more you use the board the easier the sludge is to move 😅 Of course when you’re doing a demo of the same product for eight hours a day, five days a week, you do end up with a knack for making it work! The products been around for the last 40 years, so I guess it’s doing *something* right? I wouldn’t say it’s the best drawing product to have, but honestly it’s kinda fun just playing around with it… aaand it’s satisfying to *clean* the board too lmao

My brother got one of these things when he was in the hospital, we all spent many sleepless hours playing with it. The secret to drawing anything decent was learning to cover the board the the least amount of blank gunk possible, and planning where your going to pool bits in ur drawing. its a ridiculously simple toy, but definitely has its place
@TehSlan2 жыл бұрын
While this comment is wholesome in its own right (and I hope whatever your brother was in for, he made a full recovery), I can't stop laughing at the fact that you basically said "the secret to having fun with this toy is having pre-planned areas to dump the sludge" 😂

We used to do the same but with crayons. You do the colors with colored crayons and cover it completely with black crayon. After that you can scratch your picture in the black crayon. you can even layer colors so the color is dependent on the depth of the scratch.

They remind me of these little papers I and most of my friends had as kids, the colours on the background/hidden layer looked just like this but the black stuff wasn't sludge but a black scratch off coat. They were one time use though.

I remember doing a more "hand-made" version of this when I was young (some forty-ish years ago). First covering a paper with random colors and then adding a black layer on top of it and finishing it of by scraping away the black layer in various patterns. Funny thing is, I don't actually remember what I used for the colors, think it was crayons but feels like I'd wear through my crayons rather fast if that's what I used :)

This is why the only Marvin i respect. And that's Jacksepticeye's Alter Ego: Marvin. Lol Jazza at least you are talented with drawing with almost anything, i don't paint at all XD

Question to think about though: Who came first? And who was based off who? I mean they’re both magicians with the name Marvin... coincidence? I think NOT!
@NightShadow-em7gw3 жыл бұрын
First it was Marvin's magic products but all the fandom started calling this alter ego the same name, you can look up in the channel "Power Hour" and you'll see the video (it's about magic so it won't be a problem looking for it (i hope-))
@annajohnston95283 жыл бұрын
@@brookfritts3716 the company came first. Jack made the ego after playing with some of the toys and a bit later officially named him “Marvin the Magnificent Magician” after reviewing the copious amount of fanart that had spawned from the video

My sisters had one of these. Probably in the 1970s. I think the colors behind the goo were a little nicer. But eventually, somebody decided to try to use probably a ballpoint pen on the surface. Resulting in the plastic splitting, and goo everywhere. We were not amused.
