I saw this film with two aunts in the early 1940s when I was about 7 years old. This song brought tears to my eyes then and still does, I’m 86 now. Two beautiful singers and a beautiful song.

When she throws back her head, singing 'But I will still remember the happiness we've known', I'm floored. Reduced to tears, in awe of that so gorgeously expressed joy.

One of the very best songs and performances for a movie. Alan Jones is wonderful

Not surprised at how good this song is. The guy who wrote the songs from Singin in the Rain helped put this song together.

My great grandmother, Elsa Mabel Carrow (Schiewe) was the soprano opera lipsinger for Margaret Dumont. I dont see her name in the soundtrack credits but I see a lot of "Kitty Carlisle." I wonder if that was her penname for this production? My grandpa (her son) just passed away at 91 and I found all of these published song books with her name on them. She was apparently a remarkable lady. Sang soprano and later worked for the Mayor of Los Angeles!
