Gary , this is Kary . I did almost the same thing as you , and took a 994 , cut off the fake trucks and separated the two piece body . Gave them the white vinegar treatment , and painted the upper white and lower silver . Installed 999 trucks , replaced the rails with gold coat hangers and painted the top caps silver as well. She is the Queen of my Marx fleet . Keep those Marx plunking along .

I am amazed at how easily and quickly you can set that engine back down on the track with one hand and have all the wheels the rails. And you did it several times.

Great to see you again! From the beginning of the video, I was thinking "that reminds me of prewar Lionel" . Then to hear you say that prewar Lionel was your inspiration was pretty cool. I really enjoy your videos Gary. 😊

Gary ---- Great to see you back! It hasn't been the same without you. The Custom 994 is beautiful! I keep hoping that I will find you selling some of your custom trains on eBay once again. I love all those pre-war tinplate trains running on your layout. I agree with you -- the old stuff beats the new trains of today. Best regards, Mike (from Fort Wayne)

Nice job. hey... if you're still wondering what to do with your Marx shell with the broken off pilot/cow catcher you could do what I did. I had a plastic shell with half the cow catcher snaped off & I neatly Dremeled off the other half, attached 2 of those pins you use to tack stucc to bulletin boards (those tacks with the flat head on the end of them), gave it a nice paint job, and now it's my Imitation British Marx.
