Award-winning journalist Mary C. Curtis explains how the Gantt is a mixture of past, present, and future, always making the community central to the Center's essential work. A columnist at Roll Call, she’s contributed to NBC News, NPR, The Washington Post, The Root, ESPN’s The Undefeated, WCCB-TV, and NPR-affiliate WFAE. Also, Curtis has worked at The New York Times, the Charlotte Observer, the Baltimore Sun, and the Associated Press (AP).
"50 Stories for 50 Years" celebrates the Gantt’s first five decades-emerging from an idea to an institution. This collection of filmed stories illuminates people, places, and the impact of the Center’s 50-year history. Collectively, these stories offer a glimpse of what’s possible during the next 50 years.

About Harvey B. Gantt Center for African American Arts + Culture:
The Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture is a multi-disciplinary arts institution located in the heart of Charlotte, NC. Established in 1974, the Gantt Center's mission is to present, preserve, and celebrate excellence in the arts, history, and culture of African Americans and those of African descent through visual and literary arts, dance music, film, educational programs, theatre productions, and community outreach.
Named for Charlotte civic leader and former mayor Harvey Bernard Gantt, the Gantt Center is housed in an iconic, award-winning structure designed by architect Philip Freelon, co-designer of the Smithsonian National Museum for African American History and Culture (NMAAHC).
Harvey B. Gantt Center is supported, in part, by the Infusion Fund and its generous donors. The Gantt is located at Levine Center for the Arts and is supported by the North Carolina Arts Council and the Knight Foundation.
