I truly love the bond between Elizabeth and Mary in the series. They both truly care about eachother, Mary trying always her best to advice her sister and both of them being for one another whenever one is upset. I just really love that about them❤️❤️

Yes, I thought their relationship was portrayed very well in the Tudors too. Actually, it was even better mostly because of the actress playing Elizabeth lol. I wanted to like Alicia in this show but God bless her she just isn't very convincing as the Great Queen Elizabeth. Here Mary comes across as the smart one and Elizabeth is a bit dim.

@@heatherwaetzig2633 That's alright because Mary was older at the time and Elizabeth was 13-17. Mary wanted Elizabeth to be a Catholic like her esp after Mary became queen so Elizabeth had very little say. Elizabeth was always ignored after her mother's death, then she was Anglican, a mix between her siblings' religion. Then she was arrested over Thomas Seymour, and during Mary's reign she was constantly imprisoned. The girl lived in fear her whole life then as queen she had to constantly fend off attempts on her life, and make the hard decision to execute MaryQoS(who was trying to kill her)

I was always under the impression that there was a deep rift between Mary and Elizabeth on account of their religious beliefs, but in this series it seems they get along rather well.The fact that they had both lost their mothers on account of their father´s whims and fickleness might have brought them together.

Well the rift happened after edward died due to sucession issues and Mary tudor felt threatened and religion did get in the way as well
@thehistoryfreak13

yes actually they got along very well before. Mary was a good sister and motherly towards Edward. However, the succession changed her alot. She shows how fierce she was when she fought for her throne even when she was crowned she had Elizabeth walk with her in streets of London. she was very popular when she was crowned. unfortunately Mary did not see the violence that was about to take place when she took in alot of the catholic courters she did. Esp bishop gardner. they all hated elizabeth and saw her as a threat. They all wanted her dead becuase of her in between beliefs. she wasnt catholic but she wasnt a hard protestant like her brother. Elizabeth became a rallying point which made her dangerous. the'r relationship deterioated when mary became more obsessed with turning england back catholic.

@@thehistoryfreak13 I knew that Mary was very popular when she became Queen . Hard Protestants sacrificed young Jane Grey to their religious and political goals, but to no avail.Most of the English politicians and nobility were loyal to Mary then. I think that Mary never gave up trying to turn England back into a catholic country.In my opinion Elizabeth only made up her mind which side and religion to back, after she witnessed that Mary was losing popularity and that her politics were failing.
@thehistoryfreak13
@thehistoryfreak13 2 жыл бұрын
@@Belinda8881 no actually I disagree. Elizabeth was more Protestant leaning from beginning Kat Ashley her nanny basically was one who raised her and did so with Protestant teachings or rather leaning. Also the influence of Catherine pare growing up who was more of an interested party in new religious ideas than a stout Protestant. I say this because during Mary’s reign Elizabeth got in trouble for constantly having excuses for not going to mass until she was finally force way before Mary popularity went down. Mary popularity went down starting with her insistence with marrying Philip II who wasn’t king of Spain yet at the time. The marriage was highly unpopular and that’s what started the downward trend in addition to forced war with France yhag lost Calais for the English and her false pregnancy and etc.

@@thehistoryfreak13 I see. Sometimes, people from foreign countries like me, may have an unclear perspective of the facts. I was always under the impression that Elizabeth only decided which way to go, when she knew her sister ´s politics were a failure, but it seems it wasn´t so.

To be true, Catherine Parr was hardly the model of decorum on at least one grisly occasion. She held Elizabeth while Thomas Seymour proceeded to tear apart her dress with a sword until she was left standing in her undergarments. He was apparently ready to get at those as well until Kat Ashley, Elizabeth's guardian, stormed in and broke things up. Catherine, Elizabeth and Thomas would also get into various "wrestling romps", I hate to think what those consisted of.

@anikethchakraborty3238 At this point, even an academic essay would not require extensive resources. It's well documented that Thomas Seymour was grooming Elizabeth, and Catharine Part was deliberately blind to it if she wasn’t complicit. Any scholar of the Tudor era would say Elizabeth was abused, even though the extent of the abuse is not known.

@@jonathanraithel5726 I feel sorry for Elizabeth, I always wondered why the "auntie" of the wives, Anne of Cleves was never considered. From the sources I remember, she specifically told Henry in a letter that in return for annulment that she would still like to see his children.

Mary actually wrote to Elizabeth after hearing of Katherine and Thomas's marriage, begging her to come live with her. She claimed it was because Catherine dishonored their father's memory, but I wonder if it was because she knew Thomas would go after Elizabeth. Thomas tried to marry both Mary and Elizabeth before he settled for Catherine. Elizabeth and Catherine didn't know, but Mary at least knew the bit about Thomas trying to marry her. She may have been afraid to write the truth to Elizabeth for fear of implementing her for treason.

If I were Mary, I wouldn't care if Catherine mocks Henry. After casting aside my mother for another woman and then going further as making me illegitimate and then not letting my beloved mother contact me for good...yeah that man deserves all the mockery. I'd spit on his grave, too.

Here here yes I totally agree. Poor Mary this was her worst problem in life she refused to blame Henry for everything that went wrong and instead took her anger out on others. I sympathize with her pain but she shouldn't have taken that sorrow out on the wrong people.

@@heatherwaetzig2633 I read a comment somewhere that in Mary's last will, she asked that the mass would always be said for the souls of her mother and her grandparents Isabella and Ferdinand but she didn't mention anything about Henry. I guess she blamed Henry later on when she became Queen.

Wondered what would have happened if Elizabeth would have moved in with mary. I know later on that Mary tried to get Elizabeth to marry some Duke to get her out of the country. But I wonder if there was a moment where they really could have been sisters. And reconciled.
@Elizabeth-hc3mi
@Elizabeth-hc3mi Ай бұрын
In real life, Mary actually wasn't that keen on Elizabeth marrying abroad, eacspeailly in Spain. Her husband wanted Elizabeth to marry some Spanish Duke, and Mary "tried" to convince Elizabeth for his sake, but eventually she just flat out refused. One reason was thay she was worried that the Inquisition would make an example Elizabeth, so she obviously still cared about her sister to some extent.

To think: the whole Tudor dynasty started because Richard III took the Throne from Edward V.
@dorapozidis1841
@dorapozidis1841 2 жыл бұрын
It was treason that killed Richard III. Henry Percy, William and Thomas Stanley all swore allegiance to Richard III. They held back to see who was winning. Thomas Stanley was Henry Tudor's stepfather so he had a vested interest in the outcome of the battle. Both Henry Percy and William Stanley got their just deserts. Henry Percy went to York to put down a tax related riot. The good citizens of York dragged him off his horse and killed him after Percy's bolted. (I've been to York) William Stanley was beheaded for treason by Henry VII. Thomas Stanley was demoted.

The series needs to be picked up by a better network. Starz is great and all but they have a limited viewership as it is. That alone is reason enough to cancel from low views. Give it to HBO or Netflix or Amazon, and viewers will skyrocket.
