Good morning Fr. Doyle, recently I came across a long article about our Blessed Mother. It explains in detail what the Catholic Church believe and teaches about her. It was so well explained that I wish I could share it with my Protestant acquaintances who downplay her role as the Mother of God. Beautifully written!

I’ve been watching these videos every day for a couple of months now and this video had a huge impact on me. I can’t even begin to explain the power of God that I felt through this. Thanks for your efforts. I do have a concern about how Mary is portrayed as the Lady of Guadalupe. She is supposed to be pregnant but why is she not showing? One person declared that he discovered that she was none months pregnant, but you sure can't see it. I talked to a Priest from a parish named after her and he indicated that how women were shown to be pregnant was that they wore a black belt around their waist. I'm not sure whose decision that was to show her with a black belt rather than a large stomach and for what reason. It is exceedingly difficult to find a portrait or a statue of Mary being pregnant with a large stomach. I know centuries ago, it was frowned upon to show a women as pregnant. But times have changed, and parishes should be proud to show a pregnant Mary. Some say that the Catholic church doesn't want to show this image as it might mean that Mary indeed did have other children after Jesus. Not sure. If you take this a bit further, a pregnant Mary, shown with a large stomach might help the Pro-Life movement.

Thanks for your question… The answer to who decided to portray her like this is God. The image was miraculously given to Juan Diego and to us through a miracle.
