Facts, facts and more more facts! I watched this when it aired at 9 years old (I'm a golden girl now 😂). Left the most amazing impression on me. This was around the time of 9/11 (maybe a few months after?). I remember even as a little girl the temperature in the country. We were over it. This performance embodied how we felt.. so powerful. As an adult now with some real life experiences the song and this performance is that much more meaningful. I remember my mom (r.i.p 🤍) loved seeing mary perform this song in particular

The audience was in a state of shock and disbelief!!!! Amazing! Not even one of my favorite MJB songs, but that performance gave me chills!!! And I've never seen anyone look so beautiful while having a straight up fit of anger running all over the stage. She must have double lung capacity than the average person and those vocal cords are made of gold!!!

Fun fact: MJB felt slighted she didn’t have a Grammy at all in her career so last part wasn’t even in the song. Years prior she lost to Alicia Keys who was a rookie. With NMD she didn’t win anything for that or Family Affair. She felt misunderstood and unappreciated with her music. This was her diss to The Grammys and her statement that she’s here!
