But that doesn't mean she should put up with it, that's why she deemed their relationship as incompatible back then, MJ wants to have this job that is important to her and Peter being so overprotective gets in the way. They broke up for that reason and could get back together after Peter learned to trust MJ more.

I know this is set in an alternative universe BUT hear me out. Gwen's yet to make an appearance, what if things go the other way around on this Earth. In the sequel, MJ either returns home from her journalism abroad and does her usual snooping to get to the bottom of things. Seeing how she's always saved at critical times, what if Peter actually isn't around or is unaware of the situation at hand? For if he isn't around, the news breaks of a journalist being killed and he learns its her. Or the unaware scenario, he shows up to the scene ready to his thing and on arrival shit hits the fan and the timing is completely out of his hands to which he witnesses her death or finds her not long afterwards. MJ dies in this universe and he meets Gwen later on, switching the roles. I'd suck as I love the characters and narrative of this universe but it would make a good lesson for Mary Jane on appreciating how protective Peter is. Along with the fact that she's doing journalism overseas, if something goes down over there, she is truly in a helpless spot that no one can save her.

Either she dies or she ends up moving out of New York and gives him an ultimatum which he’s about to choose to go with her since miles is coming into his own but something drastic happens that shows he can’t leave and so they split 🤷🏾‍♀️THEN Gwen comes into play. Idk runs into her at oscorp or sum shit but then (just like the other female characters in this game except MJ) she is really well written and doesn’t irritate Peter to where he has to blow off steam and is a hypocrite
