Here's something interesting. In 1994, the sitcom Friends started with Rachel Green running out on her own wedding through New York in a wedding dress. 10 years later, the show ended in 2004. The same year this movie came out. And here, we have Mary Jane doing the exact same thing. The ending of Spider-Man 2 brought the Friends pilot episode full circle! ⭕

Ya know even though i know that MJ says it in the comics as well everytime i think of the phrase "Go get em tiger" i can't help but think of this scene cause it always gives me chills in the best of ways. The way she says it, the music in the background, his final swing out the window, even that longing look she gives him after he leaves... all so memorable and iconic that i can't help but smile whenever i think of it. I know a lot of people (myself included) hate on this version of MJ but i gotta admit...in this scene she was pitch perfect with everything. As amazing a movie as No Way Home was if there's one thing i would've added to that movie it would've been Kristen and Emma coming back as Mary Jane and Gwen even as just some kinda cameo or something. It would've made a great movie even better if they did that.

She didn't play with Flash. He was an asshole to literally everyone and she obviously got sick of it. Plus, it was just a highschool relationship anyway. Once they graduated she wanted to start her life. She also didn't play with Harry. He wasn't her boyfriend. They were just casually seeing each other for awhile. They hadn't even kissed. Then his dad acted like a massive creep, looking her up and down, and then he proceeded to show what a POS he is and said a bunch of degrading and misogynistic things about her, loud enough for everyone to hear. And Harry sided with his pos dad and yelled at MJ just because she spoke the truth about norman. That was the end of that. Mary Jane MOST DEFINITELY didn't play with Peter. She was straight forward and told him that she loved him and wanted to be with him and *HE* turned her down. Which happened over and over again in the second one as well. You have to remember that she doesn't know Peter is Spiderman. She doesn't understand why one minute he acts like he likes her and the next minute he's blowing her off. She told him she liked seeing him at his party and asked if there was something he wanted to say to her and Peter said no. Then, It was only after learning that she was seeing another guy that Peter told her he would go watch her play. Then he let her down by not showing up. It was only after learning of her engagement to another man that he asked her to "give him another chance" and "pick up where they left off". Hmm.. How convenient. Then she finally decided to trust him after he had let her down so many times before. She told him she thought about it and wanted to be with him and the dude let her down AGAIN. He told her "Actually I spoke too soon. My mind was playing tricks on me. Blo blo blo" (Yes, the audience knows why Peter rejected MJ: because he wants to keep her safe. We know why Peter didn't show up to her play. We know he asked to be with her again because at that point he lost his powers and didn't want to be Spiderman anymore. We know he changed his mind about being with her because he then wanted to be Spiderman, and that's also why he said he didn't love her. The thing is: *MJ DOESN'T KNOW* ) From Mary Jane's perspective Peter is just constantly playing head games with her. The only one who got the short end of the stick was John. Mary Jane wanted to be with Peter but he wouldn't tell her how he felt or be straight with her. He kept going back and forth on what he wanted so she had no choice but try to move on. She just didn't realize until the end that she was only ever with John to try to get over Peter. As far as Gwen goes, Mary Jane had every right to complain and be angry. 1.) Peter took a special moment that he shared with MJ and recreated it with Gwen for some fckn cheers and applause (which would obviously hurt Mary Jane's feelings) 2.) Most importantly, he literally cheated on her. I don't care if he did it as Spiderman or what the context was.. HE KISSED ANOTHER WOMAN. That. is. cheating. So yeah, Mary Jane got upset. She had every right.

This movie and this whole ending, including the wistful look on her face, is the closest the movies came to capturing the realistic mood and sorrowful drama that Steve Ditko put into the character when he plotted and drew those initial issues , (before Lee and Romita turned it into Archie, Betty and Veronica). Loved Sam Rami's work on these first two movies.
