Same here. I worry so much about being left by people I care about that I find myself doing as much to help them as much as I can. It may not be the primary conscious reason--I genuinely like helping others--but I've realized that this is some underlying reason I do things. It's like if I'm not fulfilling a need, I can be discarded so much more easily.

Body acceptance is not about glorifying obesity. It's about fucking loving your body at whatever size you are at. - Mary Lambert
@coffeyeoin59 жыл бұрын
Yes but only if you're overweight. It's not ok if you're underweight. Also, it's terrible that you think it's alright to convince children into thinking that being obese is ok and something they shouldn't work to change, for health reasons if not for beauty.

Who said? She could have a disease or be on steroids for a sickness YOU should not be so judgemental you don't know everyone's story or health js think before you speak
@CLMoonLight9 жыл бұрын
jeb tweebance In first place. why should YOU or anybody tell someone what any person should do? If you are a doctor and that person is you patient then by all matters you can do it. Being healthy is not the same as being thin, or eating to much or to little, it's not about your size and only a doctor can tell you if you are healthy or not. You say "Should we not be telling people like her to maybe STOP eating so much; because it's unhealthy?" Oh believe me, you do tell us to stop "eating so much", and by you I mean society (which means society tells you too), you tell us every time we look at the media, when we are with our friends, with our family, at work... everywhere. But, the reason it's hardly ever because it's unhealthy like you said. It's because its not "pretty", not "attractive". Not like you should look. It's not right, YOU are not right. .Society is not just gently telling us " We want you to be healthy, no matter what that looks physically, as long as you are healthy then it's fine", no, The message society is sending is "If you don't look certain way, the way we are portraying as the right way, you should not expect to be as loved, successful and happy as the people who are because the way you look is not enough to get those things you want, YOU are not enough, you are less than them, you are not worthy of happiness, love and success". And that's why so many girls starve themselves and throw up, because they think (how could they not) that that's the way to happiness and everything that comes with being the "right" size. The message I got from Mary is "You don't have to hurt yourself, either physically or emotionally, to be happy, to be loved or to be successful. It doesn't matter what size you are, you have value, you are important, you are worth it, nobody and nothing can take that way from you".

@jeb please tell me how telling kids that's being overweight is wrong and they need to fix it. If it is hereditary you can't fix it. I have polycystic ovarian syndrome. I exercise every day and eat healthy and take medicine to help but guess what, you can't cure pcos. Your stuck with it. A lot of girls are overweight from it. A few don't have the weight problem but that like 1 in 10 women who have pcos. This song is so uplifting. Women shouldn't have to be ashamed of their body any size. So before you spout off saying you should tell kids to fix their weight problem maybe you should look up pcos. And maybe you should look up your family history. Because it could run in your family too.
@coffeyeoin59 жыл бұрын
natalie haupt If you are an outlier and have a medical condition that makes it hard for you to lose weight, then okay, but this is an overly common excuse used by overweight people for being overweight. Kids should be told that it's unhealthy to be overweight, and that it carries major health risks. I don't think it's right that we're making kids think it's okay to be unhealthy. You're advocating "love your body" instead of "strive for improvement" and "better yourself". It's a defeatist/ lazy attitude.

some people can't help it if they're overweight. some people take medications, or have metabolism problems. learn your facts before categorizing all overweight people as "lazy", some were brought up knowing nothing but food. binge eating is an eating disorder, too, you know. This is a slam poem and song mashed as one, and it's beautiful. Maybe Mary wrote this to help herself gain motivation to lose weight, we will never know; nor do we have to know. what Mary wants to do with her body (overweight or not) is something that's up to her, and as long as she's not carving up her skin or doing things such as purging and starving, we shouldn't have to say what she should and shouldn't do. maybe Mary puts makeup on because she is confident with herself, but she has to do them for jobs because producers tell her to, or maybe she just wants to to add a little MORE confidence. I bet at home she's makeup-less and doesn't curl/straighten her hair. again: what Mary does is HER business. stop trying to add in your argumentative two-cents.

***** Would you please explain to me what a 'normal human' is? Because as far as I have seen from the multiple places I've been, a 'normal human' does not exist. Some people have medically proven problems that prevent them from losing weight. But as I think you believe, there are some lazy ass people who refuse to do anything about it. Another thing, she has, much like many of the viewers of this video, something called depression. Now I understand that you might be to ignorant to know what that means, but the basics of it is you feel sad for some possibly explained reason or might not be able to find comfort in your own body. Now then tell me this: What percent of the songs that have been made, have said something promoting someone or something? Saying something good about themselves or a specific group they are in? At least 30% of songs out there have mentioned the musician in a good way to add onto their self esteem as well as the viewers opinion of them. But those people must be normal right? News flash. We are all considered 'normal'. And what makes her not human? The flab that her body has attained? Well then in my eyes all the sports kids out there with obscene muscles are far from human. But that's my opinion. Just like yours my opinion has its own flaws. But my main question is: If you are so against the video then why are you still here? Next reproductive organ please.

***** If you are a educated person above the age of acceptable naivety, then I would expect a better constructed response. Not a response that holds opinionated, unknowing, naive half-truths that when studied upon further are thoroughly incorrect. And if you are not a person above the naive age, then why are you responding to a video with such negativity, if you feel disdain for this then just leave.
@Becki121510 жыл бұрын
And how long ago did you achieve this degree? Modern researchers have discovered new problems, for example: hypothyroidism. Your thyroid is under-active which in turn makes your metabolism slower. Most people with a slower metabolism tend to sink into depression due to their already 'low calorie' intake not working. Depression will either lead to massive food intake, or lack of nourishment- anorexia/ bulimia. You could also have polycystic ovary syndrome, where if you are a female you have too much testosterone in your body causing an internal 'battle of the sexes' (hormones battling for dominance) It doesn't work for everyone, the majority? Yes, but the defects? No.

I cry like a fucking baby whenever I hear this. Even if you're planning on changing yourself or quitting something, you need to realise that you're mind and your soul and what you think when you look at art isn't shown on the scale. You're favourite qoute isn't on the measuring tape and the way you're eyes light up when you're happy isn't on the back of your jeans. It's okay to want to change and to want to better yourself, as long as you realise it isn't absolutely necessary and as long a you realise it's for you. If your friends or that boy who you have a crush on does not like you for who you are, then those arent people to have around. Victoria secrets models probably have the lowest self esteem because of how controlled they are just to keep an image. They can be free, something you have - freedom. Express it.

Powerful. Beautiful. Truth. Now, how do we learn and except this truth? Need to share this with my daughters. I've done everything I could to complement and instill a good sense of self for my daughters, only to find them still hating their bodies. I did everything except love myself.... Children learn what they live. I could tell them every day how beautiful they are but when they hear me complain about myself, that's what they pick up on. Kick myself every damn day for this. Still trying to love myself at 45 years of age.... Fu**!

imtheresamarie Yes. Children are sponges. My parents tell my sisters and I we're beautiful, but it doesn't mean much because they're our parents and we feel like they "have to" say those things. Also, my younger sister & I've been picked on SINCE DAYCARE!!! It's really sad. I'm slowly, VERY SLOWLY getting some confidence at 26. What helped the most was my mother & father warning us about the kind of people there are in the world. Although the picking, teasing, mental, verbal, & emotional abuse continue to play in my head, the warning my parents gave me really helped me not completely break. They didn't portray the world as a bad place or that all people are bad; they just warned us about how some people may do this or that.

The epitome for me: " I only know how to exist when I am wanted, because girls like us are hardly ever wanted, you know ?" Can't change until you know exactly what it is that is wrong. & now I know. Thank you Mary for articulating it so well it penetrated my soul.

So powerful. I'm glad that the video portrayed men as well because we as women we identified totally to these words but we have the tendency to forget that men suffer from those "scar" too and more than we think. Your words, Mary, touched me to my core and i cried. Thank you for reminding me that i need to love myself, body and soul, because that is the path to healing.

Dear Random Person, You are amazing. You mean something. You mean everything to at least one person. Don't hurt yourself. Because, if you do you hurt the person you love. The person who loves you.You probably think no one will notice if your gone. Your parents will think of what they could have done. Your best friend will wonder why she didn't notice. Your siblings will think it's their fault because they were rude to you. I care about you. You don't know me. I don't know you. But I care about you. We all have a purpose. Even if you believe you don't. You do. Be the best you you can. And then you'll be happy with the you you are. ~Someone You'll Never Know

Mary Lambert is such a beautiful human inside and out. I look up too her so much for what she does for society as a whole, teaching everyone to accept themselves. She makes me feel happy every time I hear her speak, because she's so god damn good with words. I wish a lot of people could be more like her.

'I only know how to exist when I am wanted' that line just wow... it makes me think about how I have lived the moments in my life when I was the saddest, the moments when I was the weakest, all come down to this line. When you are a child you strive so hard to be wanted by your friends loved by your parents but when that falls apart and you never reclaim it what then? I was able to move on put the pieces back together thanks to people I found eventually in my life but not everyone can be so lucky and its not a weight issue its a society issue. Stop tearing others down and build people up!

Everything I have heard from you has been powerful. I listen to your music when I am writing. When I am relaxing. When I am trying to sleep... and when I am incredibly sad and thinking I am alone. Your music has helped me not only begin new stories, but it has also helped me see that I AM in fact beautiful and that my life has only just begun. I love your music, and you probably won't ever read this because very few artists do, but I wanted to thank you. Thank you for being open about your love and who you are, for sharing what you truly think and mean, and even sharing the dark moments, because we are all human. You shed light on the fact that weakness does not mean we are weak; it means we are human. So thank you from this small town girl about to face college and my adulthood. Thank you.

Mary Lambert is such a beautiful and talented artist. She promotes such a good message and yet she remains so unpopular. Why though??? Her voice is beautiful and her lyrics are so poetic and she's a beautifully positive person. She is too good for us and we don't appreciate her enough

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this. I was at the gym yesterday, it was my first day back in months and I had put on a few pounds. I already felt really shitty about myself and was planning to go back when I'd gotten back to my original weight, but I decided to go anyways. I had a great work out until I had a personal trainer walk up to me and say "you've gained so much weight! What happened?" She said that in front of everyone and I was mortified and angry! Like how can you talk to guests like that? Anyways, listening to Mary Lambert has made me feel better. She's an amazing woman with a great message.
@sierra871410 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, this song is literally perfect. I am quite a large person, and I'm so done with the shit that people say that I "Eat too much" Or "You don't exercise enough" Because in all honesty, I am healthy and on rare times I have junk food. Enough with telling someone what they did wrong and help them feel better about themselves. Think before you say.

This made me cry and then smile. As a kid I was really insecure about myself, and thank god I didn't know what cutting was because I was so depressed I probably would have. I used to look at all the other girls and I saw how pretty they were, and I looked at myself in the mirror and I cried. And bullying didn't help, I had one really slutty friend and she never helped me so I talked to myself and I cried. Things brightened up when I moved to a new school, but at times I was still depressed and I was to scared to cut and I turned to reading and KZbin and music and they were the only things that helped. I have awesome friends, but sometimes things happen and they just aren't there for a while. And I smiled because this is a real confidence booster for me, and I really appreciate it.

You are amazing. A lot of people need to keep telling themselves that. You are wanted. You are something. Don't tell yourself you are nothing. You are strong. You are loved. Times can be hard, but you will fight through it. No matter what, you are amazing. That's what this song tells me, I don't need to shame myself because of my size or what I look like. I am beautiful the way I am. We all are. We all just need something like a song like this once in a while. Because you are amazing.

This video gives me chills. Every. Fucking. Time. The other day, my parents asked me if anyone was still making music that meant something, that had a message. And instantly, Mary Lambert came to mind. Thank you Mary, for saying the things that everyone's afraid to say, but so many people need to hear. We all love you for it.

This is so such a beautiful piece of work. It really stings because we as women... or should I say people do not know our own worth usually. It takes time to find it. To realize we need to love ourselves and not depend on someone to do it for us. We all get tempted to fall back into something unhealthy weather it's self-harming, an unhealthy relationship, or being promiscuous just to feel wanted and attractive... Yet we are enough. Get those irrational negative thoughts out of your head and forgive yourself... read self help books, think positive, you can overcome whatever it is that is hindering you're growth as a person! Overcome whichever battle you are struggling with.

It has been many years since I last listened to this song. And I knew it was gonna make me cry. And I listened to it again anyway. And I cried. After years of growth it hits differently, but it still hits those feels hard.

EDIT: I just recently remembered that I made this comment 2 years ago and I was 14 at the time. I'm proud of myself for growing as a person with this mindset. So I started reading the comments and some of them made me really disgusted. Yes I'm a kid and yes I don't know shit but I know that you're crossing a very thin line here. So are you saying that every positive thing that comes towards people with low self esteem and psyhical problems should be walked over. And unlike most of you pricks out there think this video isn't meant only for people with weight problems. There are a lot of people who don't feel good in their skin and can't help it. Be it their sexual prefrence, their personality,their face or anything else that they don't feel comfortable with. Nobody is perfect and you can't compare people.

I wish I could meet Mary Lambert, the artist that truly turned many people's lives around. My dream is to inspire many people with art and help others so Mary Lambert is a great role model/idol for me and so much more of society. Society is really cruel sometimes but everybody should remember that whatever you may be going through, it won't last forever.
