Not long after this song was popular, I had my first serious relationship, only to find out that the girl in question was torn between me and another guy. Hits pretty hard even after 40+ years. As it turned out, both the other guy and me found out about the whole thing when I showed up at the town homecoming and he was there with her. The next evening I went over to her house to tell her I couldn't be part of a relationship like that. While I was there, the other guy called and told her mom, "If that other guy's there, tell her it's over."
@elisakrivas8 ай бұрын
It's torture when you don't know you're polyamorous. Now, I just have two partners and everyone in the relationship has knowledge about it and consents. Problem solved. If you're not monoamorous, then you should take care of your emotional and mental health instead of torturing yourself. Monogamy isn't for everyone. The logic of limiting yourself and harming your mental and emotional health just because society doesn't deem who you are as acceptable just doesn't make sense to me. A monoamorous person will never be torn between two lovers because they think that if you love two people at once, then you don't actually love either of them and it's not true love. If you have the ability to be torn between two lovers, you are NOT monoamorous. You're either ambiamorous or polyamorous. If people just recognized their own relationship orientation, there'd be a lot less torture. Not every relationship type or relationship structure works for everyone. The existence of LGBTQ+ people proves this. So no, I don't believe that loving multiple people at once is painful and torturous. I believe that society has created a fictional problem to discriminate against people who love differently and that's where the torture actually comes from. Just think how the song mentions that just by her ability to love two people at once, she's breaking all the rules. What rules? How is she breaking them? Why were the rules placed? Are these rules that she's breaking harmful if she breaks them or is she just making society upset for loving differently than they do? The only harm that could be done is if the people she loves are both monoamorous and they feel like she doesn't actually love them because they don't believe you can love multiple people at once, so now they feel unloved. But who's fault is that? Should we blame the woman who naturally fell in love with two people at once, or should we blame social upbringing for teaching that monoamory is the only correct way to love? I'll compare a scenario of how it would be now versus how it would be if various relationship orientations weren't discriminated against and we were taught them in our upbringing. Now: Polyamorous woman: I'm sorry guys, but I love both of you and I can't choose Monoamorous men she's talking to: Well, that's impossible, so it means you don't love either of us and we'll make the choice for you. Good-bye. Same scenario if there was no discrimination against various relationship orientations: Polyamorous woman: I'm sorry guys, but I love both of you and I can't choose Monoamorous man 1: It's okay, I still want to be with you, I'll support you, and you can still date whoever you want, but just know that for me, you'll always be my one and only. Monoamorous man 2: Yeah, I agree that's okay, but I don't feel comfortable with a non-monogamous relationship, so is it okay if maybe we just remain friends? See the difference? So, again, is her breaking the rules doing actual harm or is it just breaking the rules of a discriminatory society?

My wife died about two years ago. I’ve recently started dating another woman. One of my friends is upset about it, thinking that I’m trying to replace my first wife. No one can replace her. I told her, “No one else will ever have the part of me I gave to her.” I stole that from this song.
@MoMoMyPup107 ай бұрын
For sure. You don't 'replace', you compliment -- a heart big enough for two loves is worth sharing. That isn't easy to find. Every life is worth a complimentary piece, and two if necessary.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Please don't listen to your friend or anyone else who tries to tell you that same ridiculous thing. Nobody deserves to be alone and everyone deserves to be loved. I don't know you or your wife, but I'm sure she would not want to see you grow old alone, that's the worst thing for anyone to experience. We all need to be loved ❤
