Adele would have been fun. Andrews was a stage actor that was pretty unknown. They don’t make those sorts of gambles anymore. There probably is a broadway person that could have done well though. Hollywood likes to get actors and then just autotune them.

That's because she was demanded to portray a character from a certain region, along with it's particular accent quirks. It's always difficult things to do even for fellow brit actors. Look at the great Sir Michael Kaine, who can get past his thick Cockney accents.

The one man band sounds when Bill Hader walks around is great! Attention to detail like this really livens up the transitions in the skit. Like when he kneels down and it sounds like letting the air out of an accordion(/kazoo whatever that was...)

Don't know her name, but the woman playing the little girl in this skit looks just like Mrs. Banks (the mom) in the original Mary Poppins.

@Jean: According to a transcript of the skit (snltranscripts.jt.org/08/08dpoppins.phtml), Jane Banks is played by Casey Wilson. The resemblance here, to the Winifred Banks of Glynis Johns, is remarkable. I'd wondered if anyone else had thought the same. Thank you for having mentioned.

It's pretty funny because she is playing Mary Poppins, who was played by Julie Andrews. They played as granddaughter and grandmother, respectively in The Princess Diaries.

@@sneedbreedley she did not - all she did was pause and look towards Anne Hathaway before delivering her second line. Hard to say why, Anne might have done something slightly different than in rehearsal, but it was a hardly noticeable pause - certainly not a missed cue
