Marie might be the most tragic Queen in whole of European history. She was far ahead of her time, tolerating protestants even when she was a Catholic, like our modern ideologies. That made her enemy to both of them, the Catholics who wanted a Catholic champion found in her a protestant supporter while protestants saw her as a Catholic and a woman (John Knox). When she married Darnley I think she was looking for an external support to take English throne. She was tortured by the whole world. I feel so bad for her. She was falsely accused of plotting to murder Elizabeth. It is said that when Marie was born her father is sad to have said " It comes with a lass it goes with a lass". He was talking about the throne, but she proved him wrong as she married her cousin and her son was a Stuart. I don't think she killed Darnley and that she married Bothwell on her own will. I think she was forced. Elizabeth won the battle when she beheaded Marie, but Mary won the war when her son took the English throne. BTW, great video👍. Lovely Video. Mary was a young Girl who followed her heart and didnt have the best taste when it came to men. I might read the book you suggested to learn more about her circumstances!

Personally I do not believe that Mary was involved in Darnley's murder, but I don't think she felt much loss over his death either. They had been estranged for some time. Mary's position as Queen had always been tenuous because of all the religious and civil turmoil in the realm, what with the ever-waring clans and factions of nobles. There was always one faction or another plotting against the Crown or trying to seize political control. Mary needed a strong supporter to protect her and her infant son, and she believed she had found that in Bothwell. Much was at stake. When Mary unwisely married Bothwell, even if it was by coercion, the public perception was that she had to have been involved in Darnley's murder, and the people then turned against her and deposed her. Still, Mary did not deserve the fate that she ultimately received, being held captive in England for 19 years and then executed at the order of Elizabeth.

I agree, she made some unfortunate decisions, but she didn’t deserve her ultimate fate.

I have always thought Mary was misled by the men in her life.
