Mary Reed ‘The Journey Of An Unwitting Mystic’ Interview by Iain McNay
Mary is author of the book, ‘Unwitting Mystic - Evolution Of The Message Of Love.’ In the Summer of 2000 she heard a voice deep inside her saying ‘You are supposed to be doing something very important.’ It didn’t leave her alone; the more she tried to ignore it the more persistent it became. She then started to have visions of Christ, Buddha, the Dalai Lama and others. She had no religious or spiritual background and tried to find help to understand and integrate them. Everything failed to make sense to her. Her life fell apart and she attempted suicide by taking 97 pills, but woke up 2 days later. She felt remorse and supreme surrender.
Eventually she found help which led her to India where she is now based in a Nunnery.
She tells her fascinating story and she talks about the realisations she has had.

Mary, I heard your interview on Batgap right after my brother died last spring. Listening to your voice and hearing your words was such a comfort for me during that difficult time. Thank you so much for sharing your story, your insights and your experiences.

Thank you. I resonate very much with her story. I have experiences (not so dramatic or vision-like, more like understandings) which I cannot share with anyone. The last three years I've been going through a spiritual journey and now my whole worldview has completely changed, rather than changed it actually disappeared. Together with my old life, everything is gone and I feel like I'm left without guidance, in the void. In the same time the knowing is always there, that it is all well. It's like a game, you are allowed to disconnect whenever you want and fall in despair, and then it is just darkness and memories of "it has always been darkness, the light is not true" come to the surface. And you are also allowed to connect to the light and then it is so incredibly clear that all it has ever been was always the light, love, God. But what is missing between these two states, is a bridge, or rather, a window. It's impossible to see the other when you are in one of these. So, desperate questions will always live in a land where enlightened answers cannot get. And vice versa.

In Sufi culture as I understood, the journey of special people goes in two ways: one way is walking the walk step by step and learning along the way, then something big happens. The second way is something big happens then one learns step by step what had happened-but the steps of the learning would be bigger ones than in the first way. The first way is called the way of the “ wanting and loving”. The second way is called the way of the “ wanted and loved”. The majority of the experts as I understood consider the “ wanted and loved “ path to be more special. The guest in this interview the wonderful Mary seems for me to be from the very special people of the second way. Love and best wishes for all.

I only comment in hopes of possibly helping another. Anyone watching this interview to the end I would assume can def relate to the lost/despair stage of "life" whilst being on a personal spiritual path? Seems like an oxymoron but I can certainly relate. For me, when I finally more fully understood that even if I die (the body vessel I currently relate with), "l am" absolutely fine, that is when I could much more so surrender and just allow being-ness to take over. The smile I got from Ian's plug at time 39:35 didn't hurt either :-) Namaste .

In the end, surrender isn't a choice. Surrender is the result of having no other choice.

She is expressing her divine self for the purpose of serving God and humanity...We all are divine and all of us are following our true paths when we open up to the truth of who we are and allow for things to be... and Mary by surrendering allowed her divine mind and emotions to be merged with her soul and so she follows the wisdom, knowledge of her soul through her divine mind and heart...as her divine self without judgments or labels of any kind ...Her trust in God's guidance allows her to be and to follow her truth, which ultimately is God's Truth...Well done Mary for allowing always to be in that state of allowing Truth to flow through your divine mind and high heart...From Stroudsburg with Love

Mary, thank you and I must say it was a great experience knowing you and about your journey; I read your book and I enjoyed it and learned a great deal from it...I am in the mist of big changes, but as you are aware, we must first let go of the wounded inner child and other painful experiences and allow for new and positive attitudes in everything we do...I am feeling more the relief of letting go of old issues... I feel almost emptied with so much releasing going on... With much Love and may you journey keep growing the Love and Light that you are...

Love Mary Reed...this is the second interviewer, and coincidentally (or maybe not) the second man--and now I'm being judgmental--who feels the need to talk more than they should, as though THEY have Mary's experiences. She's gracious, though. Amazing!

Hi Sandra. At the time of this interview I was feeling quite jetlagged and fatigued from just ending my U.S. tour, so I was extra grateful for Iain's gentle conversational style. :-)

mary reed Hi! I saw you in Doylestown, PA. It was meant to be. I dawdled about coming, about spending money, about the 1 hour drive from Center City Philadelphia, where I work, but kept checking Susan Duval's site. Finally, your session was closed. So, just like that old Groucho Marx bit, I DEFINITELY wanted to come then. I left a message for Susan on a Sunday to keep me posted regarding any cancellations. Then, about 15 minutes later, I call back at around 6p, with the intention of making sure that she had my number. I thought that I'd neglected to leave it in the first message. SHE PICKS UP! She said that she'd just walked in from picking you up at the airport and that there was indeed a cancellation. Woohoo! I was there with bells on. What a great night! I am also enjoying your book and look forward to any other offerings from you! Sorry if my post was a little negative. I like your message and like to hear more from YOU. But interviewers are there to question, even challenge, so that's cool. Merry Christmas! Say hi to Jesus from me!

Listing to her for 30 minutes i keep thinking how closely related ' spiritual experiences and schizophrenic episodes seems to be. The difference lies in the capacity to keep functioning in society.I find her stories somewhat over the top, and containing a lot of contradictions. no fear but despair. Angels, Jesus and committing suicide?....What the f.ck? Well she is certainly not a boring guest ;-).

too bad she wasn't able to get into the question about being able to surrender when in a dire situation such as in Aleppo, I have the same question as Iain
@kululamr
@kululamr 7 жыл бұрын
Hi phoggee. I thought I answered Iain’s question, but perhaps I wasn’t clear. I was trying to say that surrender while things are already in the process of falling apart doesn’t necessarily change the course of things still falling apart. Surrendering to seemingly tragic circumstances can be a conscious choice or the weary outcome of worry or the result of defeat, but if we’re already caught in the momentum of tragedy, then surrender helps us more readily integrate the impact of those circumstances and allow divine guidance in our healing path. I hope that makes more sense.

Why don’t you ask her about being one with Christ during the crucifixion???!!!?!!!!!!!! That seems kind of important…
