While I respect Dr M's life work and passion for helping others, I have to ask the question- Why do they look so OLD?? He is only 68, not sure hold old Mary is, but they look much older. I can't imagine them living healthfully to 100!! Reply
@smallfootprint29617 жыл бұрын
It's all relative, Isn't it. Depends on your perspective. If you think plump is youthful, they don't fit that scenario. If you think gray hair isn't youthful, they don't fit. If you love that they are growing old together, slim and healthy...like I do, they are a great example of living into your 70s with vigor. Most of their contemporaries have died so you don't see aging, slim, healthy people any more. I see people in their 40s who look like and probably will die before they get to 60/70. I'm 78....not slim enough yet but, having lost 80 lbs, I'm better off than most. I'm gray but am a vigorous 78 yr old. How old are you? Can you work like they do? I hope so but, would like to hear your story.

I met a young man in his late teens on a flight from Africa to NYC. He was traveling to the USA to go to school. He was so excited about the food being served on the plane. He was awarded a scholarship to attend school in the USA and had never been on a plane. He told me that all he ever ate at home was rice and some fruit and vegetables grown by his uncle. I asked him a lot about the specifics of his diet. He was the picture of health. Perfect teeth. Beautiful skin. Trim and fit. He insisted that all he ate was rice with seasonings and the occasional fruit and veggies offered by his uncle.

On this mono dieting topic- I'm 40 I went vegan at age 15 and lived on rice for every single meal for many years, sometimes I'd add some veggies or fruit but they looked more like a condiment. Sometimes I switched to baked potatoes and another time hot cereals but I always ate the same starch for every meal. I got married at 26 so I became much more diverse but always was and am a whole food produce vegan eater. I did not have any deficiencies nor did I even think to supplement until I got into my 30s and started to study nutrition. So mono dieting on real plant food that has enough energy (aka calories) not only works but is very enjoyable.
@Alykat7368 жыл бұрын
I ate white rice all those years. I don't eat cooked food anymore, except once a month I may add some steamed veggies onto a salad. I just do what works for me. Ideally mono meals but there's so much good plant foods it's hard to eat just one item ☺️

Aly W. Very interesting. Have you had your blood tests done recently. I'll bet Dr. McDougall would be interested in those results, as would I. Do you lose a lot of weight? Also...sorry to be so nosy but...Not eating cooked food any more, would you call yourself a raw vegan or fruitarian? Certainly we don't need the variety we have been told we do. You may be proof of that. I would be interested to hear more.

No i have not seen doc's, since I'm not ill - I dont go. I went in 2 yrs ago to request blood work out of my own curiosity to see what mines like and the doc said since I don't have any illness nor symptoms he can NOT order a blood test for me. Really confirmed "sick care" for me - it's not "health care". I've been raw vegan, mostly fruitarian the last 11 plus yrs. when I intially became vegan, when I turned 15, I lost weight unitentually - I've been same size no matter what my vegan diet looked like weight around 100-108 and I'm 5'2. Hope that helps 💞

@NessaRossini...8 жыл бұрын
Instead of buying frozen brown rice you can cook a big pot of it, then get freezer bags and use a measuring cup and scoop out 1/2 cup (or whatever size you want) and set in the freezer bag. Do this until you have enough rice mounds in your bag. Leave space between the rice mounds (lay bag on it's side), close the freezer bag seal, and freeze. This way you just pull out the amount you need from your freezer to heat up when needed.
@SaneMillennial3 жыл бұрын

We have potatoes sweet and idaho, frozen mixed veggies, canned green beans, broccli, we try to change it around for instance I cook the joy pasta with canned tomatoes, garlic, onions, green peppers, italian seasoning, veggies on the side. Fridays we have sweet potatoes & broccli. Salads too. Wednesdays we have our mexican food, brown rice with Braggs natural soy sauce, cooked onions, mixed veggies or cut up cooked carrots mixed in and for spice I use picante sauce, black beans and cumin and no oil corn tortillas. Sundays mashed potatoes and Mary's gravy, veggies and salad. Other meals we have soups made out of leftovers, such as mexican soup from the leftovers, minestrone soup from left overs all I do is add enough water, and another can of tomatoes added to these leftovers. We have bought Cosco's lg. bags of organic frozen blueberries and cherries what ever they have plus frozen organic mixed veggies, corn, green beans and broccoli plus their Kirkland canned green beans and canned tomatoes. Very economical and I don't have to shop but once a month for these items. This is my 22 day of McDougling and I have lost 21 pounds and I feel so much better, energy, arthritic pain lessened a lot. Cleaning out my arteries and no more terrible painful heartburn gone completely. I have no gall bladder so it is a blessing to eat this way for me. No oil, no meats, zero fats, my husband eats bread I don't because flour causes heartburn, but I don't miss it. We have oatmeal, with frozen fruit, cinnamon and brown sugar. We love it everyday and look forward to eating everyday and we are full and satisfied. Its so funny I can tell if a food has oil such as breads, pancakes, ect. because I have immediate heartburn. But I can have oatmeal flour and rice flour. Again we eat every thing organic most of the time. Thanks be to God for y'all caring so much and sharing!

I have been eating my head off for a week, mostly starches, maybe too much fruit, and green and yellow things, like peas and carrots. I have gone from 216 pounds to 214 pounds, Friday morning to Friday morning. Narrowing down the choices to just yams, or just potatoes, I could see how that would slow me down a bit. Still I feel great and satisfied. Far better than when I was eating meat and eggs as a part of a strictly regulated "food addicts" diet for the last three years. Thank you. Thank you both for the very informative video. I am a great admirer of both Dr. McDougall and Mary and have been pretty much exclusively on the McDougall plan for several years. My health has improved, weight dropped, and energy boundless, but my question is, how does one stop from becoming too lean (read skinny). My kids worry about me at age 70 when I become too lean, and they encourage me to put a little weight on. Surely a little body fat is not undesirable? I don't want to just wither into a skin and bones person, especially as I move into late life, but I also don't want to endanger my health.

At the 40:00 point , this is the 10 day plan. Choose one simple starch for 10 days such as potatoe, sweet potatoe, quinoa OR rice. Use this one starch 3 times a day and to this you add a green, such as brócoli, frozen peas. Then can add simple condiments such as mustard or salsa. No fruits for 10 days.

About 12-14 years ago when I was too broke and could not really afford food, I subsisted on beans (different kinds of beans), but beans only, for some time. Can't remember how long now, maybe a month or six weeks max 95% of my diet was beans (with onions cooked in). It truly DID become boring, and I lost a lot of weight at that time -- but have no desire to purposely eat such a boring way again!!! That's okay, though. I don't seem to overeat much on the starch diet and I'm not in a hurry to lose weight. I KNOW it will come off, because I have so MUCH of it and this way of eating is phenomenally different from any way I have EVER eaten as a lifelong fat eater.
