I'd like to point out to all those who call her a murderer that Mary was actually cleared of murdering her 2nd husband, Darnley. It's now thought that family members conspired against Darnley and murdered him. They merely used this as a way to rid her off the throne. She may not be innocent, and may have killed, but other monarchs in the past have killed far more/done worse imo. Also like she may not have been a strong leader, but Mary was described as much more down to earth compared to her English cousin, Elizabeth. lol anyways she was such a strong person right until the end, where she walked gracefully to her execution. Who else could've done that?

I don't know anything much about the actual Queen Mary from reading ... or at all how she was.. I haven't lived back then.. But Reign portrays her as strong and awesome... as a legend... And I know from reading in the internet and this tv show... that Mary united the United Kingdom with Scotland, made Scotland part of it... And that's amazing... And now since Brexit, Scotland wants to leave the UK, so they can be part of the European Union again. And it's so stupid how Kings & Queens back then did amazing, inspiring things and now in our time, things crumble. I'm not saying, back then the leaders were better, they still had wars and all that for more power.. But at least, they also tried to unite people and fight for their people safety. I can't speak of leaders today like that............all the leaders today care for is money and taking taxes, and using those taxes/money to have an amazing life, without actually taking politics serious.

I'm Scottish and know a lot about Mary Queen of Scots and let me tell you something, she was nothing like this show. She wasn't a very good Queen/leader and often let the men in her life make all the decisions for her. She was no warrior Queen, she wanted to dethrone Elizabeth in order for the Catholic religion to reign and she worked with the Spanish to do this. While I respect her as a former Queen of my country, Mary was no hero or saint. Look into it.

@@susanwebber9247 Elizabeth was plotting against her too, everyone would have.in yheir position, even if they would have.wanted piece, some people favoured mary and other Elizabeth...many plots they were not even aware/ part of them, ot was people trying to put on the throne who they wanted, elizabeth didn't kill her for the plotting, but because common people saw in Mary the true heir since she was a true queen of royal blood from both her parents...in elizabeth case she was officially declared a bastard from Henry and even if he changed his mind in his late years, many people still saw her that way. Even when mary was imprisoned, many tried to save her without her even trying to escape.

I've never thought of Mary as a unifier. Rather, she seemed to sow discord wherever she went. She never truly knew her own mind, trying to please all sides at once. Neither wholly French nor wholly Scottish, the lady really didn't know who she was or where she belonged in the greater scheme of things. Well-intentioned but naieve, Mary's decisions & actions frequently were impetuous & easily changeable, due mainly to self-serving advisors. The woman tended to act on whims & sentiment, far too gentle a spirit for the brutal, rough, long-ago age in which she lived.

By that time Elizabeth was over 50 and had not produced heirs so it was a given she would die without an heir and since she had no younger legitimate siblings (no nephews/nieces) the line of succession would go via Henry VIII's older sister, which then led back to James. So if he played his cards correctly, he would get the English throne or at least his oldest son would.
