I loved Mary and Francis and their love story. But I also really enjoyed that Mary seemed to get even stronger after he died, as a woman and a queen. Her life, in this series, had a lot of pain in it but she persevered and fought for what she wanted. Luckily, after a life of struggle and much of it on her own, in the end she found peace and love in heaven with Francis!

I don't think they would have allowed her to marry Charles, his mother Catherine Di Medici who was acting as Regnant would probably have turned it down. Most Kings who had not produced heirs yet would most likely not have married a non-virgin and if they were older than they already had heirs so Mary would not produce an heir. So her best bet would have been to go back to Scotland to claim her throne.

Despite Reign, the real Mary loved Darnley and not Francis.
