A very good interview! I tip my hat to Mary Trump for talking so openly about her family. I can imagine that it takes a lot of courage to talk about the less pleasant parts of her family history but it's important that she does in light of the fact that her uncle is "the most dangerous man on earth" in her and in the views of many, many others around the globe. She's totally right to call out Mitch McConnell and others for having been his enablers over the past four years thus allowing him to inflict this colossal damage upon the United States of America. Each of them - McConnell, Hawley, Cruz, Gaetz, Graham, Nunes, Johnson etc. - should sink into the earth out of shame whenever they look in the mirror. I hope they will be held accountable politically and by history.

So grateful Mary is still out there doing interviews! Yay! I see how sick DJT is, and it's so shocking others can not. I can see how people abuse their children in so many ways, and how they will be traumatized and become mentally ill and possibly abuse themselves, and or others, and become drug addicts, alcoholics etc. I'm so worried about the babies. I isolate and still can't avoid seeing child abuse, which causes me severe anxiety. I do call the police and child protective services when I can. Sometimes I will speak up out in public. But mostly I feel unsuccessful in rescuing. I feel most people are so ignorant and/or wounded themselves by childhood, they are not capable of being healthy, loving nurturing parents. Most have little to no clue how to give children the best foundation. It's so upsetting and discouraging that many Donalds are being created right now. I suffer knowing all those damaged monsters are having babies all over the planet, and the cycle goes on and on....aarrg

Actually Fred was the favorite son till he turned is back on his father cos he didn’t wanna be part of criminal Machinations. He just was similar to his daughter a tender young man who allowed himself to live out emotions in this family. (You should watch the documentaries on this). People with a personality disorder like his father are increasingly drawn to those who reject them. Just watch the relationship between Donald and Barack Obama... 😌 it’s a sick obsession on someone you wanna be like your whole life but none of them would ever leave their own body to find out that they are anything but equal.
@HootmonAZ3 жыл бұрын
@@klugblogger-mitsharyreeves8229 - Yes, her poor father, Fred, suffered indescribable criticism and rejection from his father. Nothing he did was ever good enough. So as Donald observed this treatment of his older brother by father, Fred, Sr., it reinforced to Donald the belief that "I don't want to be like my big brother because dad won't like me." His brother Fred actually had school friends who liked and admired him, people he hung out with socially (but could never tell his father about because to Fred, Sr., if you weren't working, you were goofing off)... whereas Donald did not have friends, he was always acting like an *sshole around his contemporaries/classmates. I guess negative attention was better than none at all. None of the Trump kids received the attention/bonding they needed as children from either parent. Sad kids who ended up constantly craving the attention of dad, since the mom had checked out. Dr. Mary Trump's book is quite good and explains this. Funny thing is, DJT swore he would never become like his father, but he has done just that. His own kids ALL have issues with the parent/child relationship.

Intergenerational Politics Podcast, Jill Wine-Banks, we have enjoyed and been very proud of you on MSNBC and the historical role you played in the Nixon investigation. Thank you for everything you have done. We are delighted to find you here, working with someone of a more “recent” generation! This podcast reveals your all inclusive and progressive ability to encompass the positive and that which can move all of us forward. So keep on! As to DJT, as a professional in psychology, I see a 3rd component that contributes equally to his broken psyche. While his mother and father contributed both blatantly and insidiously to his choices in life of obsessively and compulsively and endlessly (thus far) pursuing money and power and to having an insatiable need for attention - constantly performing a role of superiority (in every way) over everyone - what Donald is hiding, and even what he apparently (based on his behavior) thinks he has been able to hide successfully from everyone, including his father, is that he feels inferior and more importantly that he has a low IQ. This is very critical to what we witness to be a unique character in history. Many children have experienced much worse than an ill and emotionally absent mother and a sociopathic father. Some of these individuals are ill and sociopathic themselves, some are not. However Donald is unique. He is completely fake inside and out for a combination of reasons. Not having compassion is not unique, the pursuit of success at any cost is not unique, being fake is not unique but the ability to garner the enormous varied support that Donald has been able to in spite of his obvious inabilities and lack of intelligence and coherence, is unique. When have we seen this in another individual in history? Many of the severest people who have gained power, have not been almost illiterate, in fact many have had higher than average IQs. The only people who seemed to fool people to a great extent about their intellect (but it was unintentional) were ONLY film characters in movies like “Being There” and “Forrest Gump”, for examples. I agree with Mary Trump that Donald is absolutely not in charge of decision making, he is not a mad genius or able to make clever plans of any type. He does NOT comprehend or make sense of much other than role playing, greed, and defense of his ego. What he is hiding is his utter inability to grasp much of what most of us experience as reality, including, very importantly, intellectually. This is the secret bad sauce that I think in combination with everything else is the reason Donald’s life revolves around 2 1/2 year old style temper tantrums and the fakery he exhibits and embodies as if he’s just a character playing a role - a role that has certainly been our nightmare as we have all been held hostage and must now find ways to heal ourselves and others who are choosing to heal. The good news is that there are so many of us who are on to him and what he’s done and we know we need to heal from this rampant bully. Mary Trump is of course a hero, although she does not accept this characterization. She certainly has had a positive impact with ripples into our future, no matter what else she does. Here’s to moving on! 🥂

I love your podcast! Firstly, I'll watch *_anything_* with Wine-Banks. But what I especially like about your podcast is that you ask your guests a question, and then you two let them answer the question without unnecessary and incessant interruptions and blathering on the part of the hosts. This was a phenomenal interview.

Mary Trump is really excellent, not only in her historical analysis of Trump's upbringing and how it shaped him, but also of the affect it has had on Trump's presidency and the Republican party. I also completely agree that Trump's many crimes NEED to be investigated and prosecuted.

Mary dear, I love your book. My only complaint is the cover picture, so I flipped the book over. Had to laugh when you mentioned the same. After deciding not to give Donald anymore of my time, a friend gifted me your book, which I couldn’t put down. The irony of it all, you finally wrote a book about Donald, but it wasn’t the book he was expecting. 😉 We did it! 🎉🍾🎉 be safe

Michael Cohen recently recalled a instance when he accompanied Donald in more recent years, on a visit to the military school Donald attended for those High school days. Ostensibly to buy the school, which was probably just another toxic ego feed for Donald, to return to the place as "Mr. Money Bags" considering to save it or something. However, someone there with knowledge of Trump's past told a story that a US Army General visited the premises, and upon entering the room full of Cadet students, they all jumped to their feet at attention, except Donald who maintained his slumped lounging position, whereupon the General slapped Donald across his face and yelled that Donald would show proper respect to a superior. WOW! If only video tape existed back then. I'm sure that sunk any notion of Trump buying the place, after all, it demeaned Trump in front of Cohen. Can't have that.

And yes, we are in a mental health crisis. I also think it's a spiritual health crisis, these contributing to our actual health crisis of people ill, unprotected, and in some cases, unbelieving of the necessity to unite in our fight toward a common enemy; a pandemic virus capable of killing anyone, regardless of their politics.

There was a lot of wisdom in waiting for Trump to show his true colors as President prior to releasing the book. This way there actions could be included and explained in the book and his ongoing actions served to "build the record" further and further and to prove Mary Trump's statements all the more valid and accurate.

I totally loved her book, and it explained how this man became what he is and why he is a threat to our country. Really looking forward to her next book, and think she's spot on with the subject. IMO, I blame Reagan for making mental health a luxury. So much anxiety and depression, PTSD, etc... It's now become a minority to not be taking antidepressants and/or Xanax. I will raise my hand on that. I now have Panic Disorder, and years ago I was hospitalized for depression and such. Something I was told by my psychiatric team, is something I've never forgotten. That is, those of us in a psychiatric unit were usually more mentally healthy than those who were not. That is because we knew what's wrong and they didn't or wouldn't. That's the world I'm in. The one where those who are responsible keep breaking the law and never held accountable.
