Right. Turning into a narcissist after being raised by one is like a hit or miss. One can be completely disgusted by the narcissistic parent(s), or admire them and fall in their footsteps. Many times, it is the "golden child" that becomes narcissistic, due to such deprivation of emotional support, coupled with a false sense of love and affection only when it comes to the most superficial of things ( i.e being praised for accomplishments, looks, etc.) When you factor in the blatant entitlement and lack of proper rearing from the parent, this creates the perfect storm to produce a self-centered, emotionally underdeveloped being that only places value on things that lack substance/depth. The scapegoat child, however knows early on that something is terribly wrong, totally resents the narcissistic parent, and is motivated to become everything that the narcissistic parent is not. In Mary Trumps family, Donald was the golden child, while Fred (Marys father) was the scapegoat child.

@@tru_kru_bahbee24 I think I was the scapegoat. In fact now I know I was all these years later and was so for many years - even as an adult. It's insane. But I abound with compassion and empathy. I was abused by a priest too and then later in life when reporting but it was seeing the priest as a child and realising what it had made of me that helped me get over it. If I think of him as a child I see him differently. I feel for him. I am not sure it's 'choice'. I sensed immediately from him he had suffered as a child and has never gotten over it. I think he is very, very lonely. That is not excusing just thinking out loud after hearing Mary. I don't think many of us get perfect upbringings. I don't think it's up to someone else in the family to be judge and executioner. I am not in any way a supporter. But hearing this gives some context to his humanity. We were all children once.

Please research what she said in the book because most of what she wrote is not true about Trump and his family. She is a very greedy woman and wanted money. Agree with your comment. Her book was enlightening and I also didn't feel that she was malicious in her writing. Compared to other books I have read about Trump by people who have observed him as President and were revealing the 3rd side to a story such as Jim Comey's book and investigative reporting such as Bob Woodward's first book titled "Fear". She gives a more personal perspective to Trump the person and his actual childhood that explains a lot as to why he is the way he is. Having said that, all it did was confirm my thoughts that he was/is a bully, selfish and narcissistic and her book shed light that he pretty much got it honest from Fred Trump who definitely doesn't get any "Father of the Year" or "Role Model" awards. It didn't change my opinion of him as I'm still disgusted, but the book help shed light for sure. At some point people have to deal with childhood issues and Trump's pride and ego doesn't allow for him to acknowledge that he is wrong about anything and he literally has the compassion of a robot. I've always viewed him as first and foremost a threat to our national security and the NYT reporting recently confirmed I was right in worrying about that for the sake of our country.

She certainly hasn't done all of this--write the book to enlighten the world, and then go on a worldwide book tour, giving interviews to anyone who will listen (and write a check)--simply out of the goodness of her heart. How can she be "insightful" since she has had little to do with the President since he has been in office? She is a sad case of a jealous woman who did not get a role in this administration, and this is her way of getting back. And you know the Trump family will never forgive her for this betrayal of family, and she will always be considered an outcast from this day forward. She is just like these stupid 20-plus some women who have claimed the President sexually molested them in some way. They quickly faded away when they found out that their claims were basically ridiculed. And this is how people will look at Mary Trump and her "tell all" book, as a scorned family member who was not invited to participate in the Donald Trump administration. I'll bet she would have been first in line had she been asked.

I think it important to note that Mary Trump’s perspectives and fears aren’t stated as being ideological or political. They are stated personally, based on her personal experience and professional experience dealing with people like President Trump. I would also note that so much of what she says mirrors what other people who personally knew President Trump have related, even old friends and allies who suddenly found themselves on the wrong end of this or that perception, and had concerted efforts by the President to ruin them. Mary is so brave and her resilience is inspiring, along with her ability to take something so very personal and painful and be able to see it from an objective case study shows incredible strength. She shows us the importance and what it takes to break cycles that are toxic or negative in our own families; sit down, deal with the emotions to where you can separate yourself from them and do what you can to understand each side without thrusting blame on those involved and removing responsibility from same. She never stopped or wasted the opportunity to brag about the Facts and to remind other people who came her way, and who could change the conversation around her to become about her. This even happened with complete and totally ignorance of the people, and she became an expert. EG My My cousin who stayed on at school to obtain a better job, got a Summer job in a Lawyer's office. This would completely change to become, that my cousin was working in a Lawyer's Office, practically running it, as she finished up the last bit particularly because the people standing by to go home, were making it obvious they were leaving. I think I got upset when taking all the pieces and placing them together. She ieft me in such an uncomfortable and unwanted way.. A secret response began to ferment inside me. It wss awful.

@@triplethreatcga2358 100%! I personally am going thru a family legal battle over a smaller amount ($1.4 last time I checked. Which was before Corona), but enough to piss me off. And it has been 7 years, but I still think about all the reasons that the others should not have control over the money, and it eats at me day and night. Especially as the person who wrote the will (who has clearly passed) is not here to make it right, which she could--and would!--after hearing just one statement. I understand why Mary is angry, but the entire country does not need to be part of her own personal anger and trauma. It is ridiculous and absurd. And most of it are probably either lies or just misconstrued truths about Trump. They should not affect our election, no matter when her agent decided to publish the book!

jean reynolds exactly- where would there be any $$ if he is so broke unless he is forced to sell Trump Tower, Mar a Lago , the family mansion called Seven Springs near Bedminster NY. Most of the other condos & hotels or commercial buildings are either paying for TRUMP signage on a building he has zero ownership of, others he owns a small percentage or units that he rents to tenants. He may have to sell off a multitude of property to pay Mary & her Brother & to pay back the $72 million to the IRS & the loans coming due in the next few years. He may end up absolutely broke!!

Mary Trump; "My grandfather never took responsibility for anything that was bad." That encapsulates the example Fred Trump gave to his children. True leaders lead by example. One of the most important examples a leader can set is taking responsibility for the bad as well as the good which takes place under their watch. If Donald's example from his father was to deny responsibility for anything bad, that perfectly demonstrates why he himself takes no responsibility for leadership in fighting the pandemic and why he will not accept responsibility for losing the 2020 election and continues to fight the outcome by any means, no matter how foul and outrageous. Everything bad is the fault of someone or something else. It can NEVER be HIS responsibility. That explains why he (AND HIS FOLLOWERS who mimic him like mindless automatons) speak and act as if SOMEONE ELSE was in charge for the past 4 years. Everything bad which has happened during that time is SOMEONE ELSE'S fault. Remember the demonstrations in Portland and other cities? Trump said that that is what the city streets would look like if Joe Biden were President and the Democrats were in control!!!! But what was happening was taking place while HE was in control!!!! He simply COULD NOT acknowledge that fact!!!! The most dangerous kind of leader is a wanna be "leader" who cannot accept responsibility for their mistakes and failings but who ONLY craves praise for anything positive which happens to take place during their watch, even if the positive has nothing to do with them. Donald Trump IS that sort of supposed "leader". One who crumbles when they face adversity and thrashes about to find someone or something else to blame. Which is why Mary Trump has said; "He's the weakest person I know."

Smart, you can tell she’s educated and analytical. Speaking grammatically correct, proper English, you can understand clearly. Armed with a proper Education(Psychologist), she is a good source of objective analysis of Donald Trump’s behaviors being played right before our eyes. She has concrete examples of her statements and theories.

Mary, you are just fascinating, as few have such intimate insight as you. Love hearing your grandparents' stories. I have always wondered what kind of monsters they must have been in order to produce such a weak and horribly insecure, broken soul.
