There are a couple of different opinions out there about how long he will be in power, but it will be either 3 years or 7 years depending on how you interpret the prophecy. It would cost 3 times as much as what they would give us for our property to start over, and at this age, it's not likely. GMO produce will be grown, distributed and government regulated (controlled) by corporate farms. Land and food will become the new currency once the value of the dollar has bottomed out. Which is why wealthy elites like Gates and wealthy foreign countries, like China, are buying up as much undeveloped land as they can. My small town of Westminster use to offer monetary incentives to farmers who signed an agreement NOT to sell their land for a predetermined amount time. But as the demands of overpopulated urban areas (and sprawl) require more of our tax dollars to be distributed elsewhere, I'm not sure if they're still able to offer these incentives. Meanwhile, farmers age out and/or need to sell their land to the highest bidder (developers & energy companies) to make ends meet. It seems an enviable death spiral for all our beloved green spaces and small family farms ---and now the wolves and vultures circle.

In 1963, the government ran the interstate through one of our families ancestral farms, cutting off 40 acres of pasture land. The dairy cows had to be sold due to the lack of grazing land. It too was done by imminant domain but it was for critical infrastructure designed to rapidly deploy troops and even land planes in the event of war. Why give farmers federal price support subsidies? The issue is that price supports increase land values so then instead of markets working so that less efficient farmers are incentivized to sell land, they are instead incentivized to continue grabbing the subsidies. So the government created these awkward situations. Btw these subsidies also increase housing costs especially as you closer to cities.

Rather than a land grab, the utilities should pay the farmers a “user fee” to cross their land. The utility does not acquire any land, only pay for easement.

Wooded areas might require clearing, but a reasonable amount could be charged the utility for timber losses. The point is to make it the burden of the utility to compensate and w/o loss of farm function. Out my way in SW Virginia, they only need a 200 foot right of way in the Forrest for a 765kV line. 500 ft sounds excessive (and a land grab)

Being one the farmers that this project will impact, it’s really a 1950 solution to a 2024 problem. Data centers have the ability to have onsite clean energy without kicking their impacts onto others. An existing route from the two power plants already exists and it could be reconductor to carry more power than building a new one would bring.

The govt shut off the water to the farms and all of the potato plants died. SCOTUS would disagree, see Kelo v. New London. New London was allowed to use eminent domain to destroy a neighborhood so Pfizer could build a pharma manufacturing plant I believe. Maryland doesn’t have many protections against Kelo style takings, unlike some other states.

So that explains what's going on with my electricity bill in Michigan, as well as some emails from the power company that to me were very strange. The emails explained that they're increasing the grid to provide more consistent and reliable power, but that there will be disruptions during the construction of the grid. I know they've been building wind farms for a long time -- when I was working as crew on the freighters on the Great Lakes, those wind farms were visible from the ship in the shipping channel, which is quite some distance from shore. From that distance, we can see the lights of houses and businesses, but not make out the buildings themselves. Of course the wind farms took over much of the land those houses sat on. The houses are gone. Birds are getting chopped to pieces, our home energy supply is less reliable, the electric companies are asking consumers to volunteer to install smart thermostats to let the electric company have access to your thermostat so they can control your furnace and/or AC when you're not home, so they can send power to someplace that needs it more than you do. Right now it's voluntary, but I expect that it's going to be compulsory after these parcels are sold off to immanent domain.

Because MD and VA don't generate enough power for themselves. MD currently imports 40% of their power and that's going to increase as they close their fossil fuel power plants. That means PA and West Virginia farmers get to farm under power lines and people there have transmission lines in their backyards, so MD and VA have power.

In Maryland I live on a plot of land that has Virginia Power lines running behind them. Last year they went a cheaper route to control the overgrowth in the field. They hired the company Asplundh to spray a chemical Escort XP by Bayer. They said the chemical is safe, well I've done my research, and they still use glyphosate among other chemical detrimental to human health. This year the amount of Argiope aurantia (Zipper Spider) are down among other insects. All you see is dead brown plant life in these areas. I will fight this until dominion electric or Asplundh take me out. This is just part of a constant war on humanity by a bunch of greedy scumbags.

Farming in that county and Montgomery has been gone for years. Same with Loudoun and Prince William County Virginia. The counties around them are getting destroyed with developments also. Even in Jefferson county West Virginia is getting rid of farming.

Thanks for this story.The power is supposed to come from Pennsylvania (because Maryland doesn't have enough power plants, being a Democratic state so pretending it's green), plow through rural farmland, and end at these "data centers" in Frederick, a half-hour ride up US Rt 270 from Washington, DC and home of the Army's Fort Detrick. As the Carroll County rep said, the government and utilities won't be happy until they've wrapped this tiny little state in wire and driven every farmer out of business. I live near the affected area and believe that one reason locals are doing such a good job mobilizing against the government and business is that there's just not that much land here, and the idea of treating the countryside here as if it were Texas or Alaska is ludicrous. There's nowhere you can go in this entire state that's not crossed by highways, power lines, or housing developments and that's how a lot of people seem to want it.

The issue is that this is a corporate takeover of land for private benefit. This power line isn’t going to supply electricity to the public. Eminent domain was originally intended for the public benefit, however, since New London, NY won Kelo v. New London, more governments are using eminent domain to give land to corporations where the profits and products do not necessarily benefit the general public in the same way that say a highway does. (The justification for eminent domain in the Kelo debacle was that Pfizer wanted to build a pharma plant where a neighborhood sat).
