Many years ago I was shopping at Aldi, back when I shopped once a month. A teenage girl was scanning my large two-cart order and she said, "We're not supposed to comment on what you're buying, but I think it's neat that all you're buying is ingredients. Nothing is already made up for you. You could make a hundred different meals with this stuff." As a matter of fact that was just what I planned to do! You share great tips here, Mary! God bless you! 💐

Mary, you are a wealth of knowledge!! I just found you this week. I watch with my husband listening in the background and we are both learning so much! I told him that not only do you do this extensive research, as well as helping us to receive discounts and such, but you put all this out there for FREE!! You really have a teacher’s heart (coming from a public school teacher turned homeschooling mama), and it is a joy to watch you. You are so thorough and very well-spoken in your explanations. THANK YOU for helping so many people on our traditional foods journey! I want to make everything after watching you. We look forward to learning more from you and being well on our way to a self-sufficient scratch kitchen!

I made your roasted chicken which came out great. We got 3 meals out of it. The original meal. A lunch of leftover roasted chicken. A soup that I call leftover soup. This is basically a clean out of my refrigerator. I used the rest of the chicken, added carrots, my homemade broth, some leftover rice, zucchini and green onions. It came out great. I figure a bowl of that soup is just pennies. I do save so much making real food, even when I buy pastured and organic and grass-fed, which isn't always the case. I also feel so much better eating this way. It is absolutely worth the few extra minutes in the kitchen. So many meals can also be fast and simple.

My best budget tip: go outside and forage before you go to the store. My neighbors' mulberry tree is ready to harvest, and the branches hanging into my yard will provide 30-50 pints over these next two weeks. And going to the farmers' market is the best way to get the best soup bones from the butcher, and all the leftover vegetables, because they don't want to take them home. The best bread, too. They can't bring it back to the store, and they have to give it to the pantry and shelter, so it's fresh, but they're willing to sell a loaf for $1, just to not take a loss.

In the UK it is illegal to keep the fruit from your neighbour's tree...even if it falls off the tree in your garden!!😫😫😫
@lydialady52753 жыл бұрын
@@dandycat2204 Oh, that is crazy! The mulberry tree makes a huge mess, and my neighbors don't eat them, so I go out with a flat bowl and gently shake each branch. Those that just fall off are ripe, and delicious. But my neighbors have given me permission. The roots are on their property, but much of the tree is over the fence and the road. It's a wonderful blessing, and I adore fresh, ripe fruit of any sort. In a few weeks, I'll go get the raspberries by the dog park. Around here, public space means the fruit is community property. As long as you are not destructive, it's perfectly legal, even if others dislike the practice. But I did speak with my neighbors, and it's so fun to stand under the tree and drop berries everywhere. You have to take your shoes off after and clean them, to prevent purple stains... But it's worth it. I wish you wete allowed to forage; I enjoy it so much.

Great tips! Love focusing on local foods, I travel a lot, and one of my favorite things to do is hit the markets, especially in Italy and elsewhere in Europe. At home, I have a Wegmans that's got just about everything you can imagine, but some things I still have to order online, usually Amazon carries most real specialty items, though have also used Pantheon Foods, they carry pickled whole heads of cabbage for making sarma, I could pickle them myself but takes months, I plan to do that, buying them online isn't cheap.

....I am of the belief that Seniors should get a discount, EVERY day , not just " once a week " . These stores do whatever they want ,it's shameful, to be honest . And, as one commenter stated, the store stopped doing that...?!! Why would a store do that,.....(?) Because, as I stated, they do whatever they want. They don't care, basically.

You are the best teacher there ever was. You could teach Home Economics if they taught that in school anymore. I learn so much Mary. When I was a little girl, we often would beg our mother TV dinners. We thought they were good. (But not now Im 70). But my mother would package up our left over food from dinner and homemake TV dinners. Much better. Mary, do you ever get tired of cooking from scratch? I know homemade is so much more so delicious. Now I’m older, I get a little tired. All my grandchildren want pizza pockets and pizza and box macaroni and cheese etc. I want you to cook for me Everyday! Ha! But I’m sure you get tired, too.you are a great lady, Mary. I love looking forward to your next video always! Bless you, dear lady!

Great advice. My crop top that way delayed arrived yesterday along with my new charging cord, new computer mouse, and Jessicurl order. Still waiting on my other crop top which will be here on Monday or later. It shipped from farther away. The crop top fit. Looks great with the high waist skirt I had in mind to pair it with. My new charging cords work great, are longer, and sturdier. Plus I can charge two android devices in tandem that way. I've missed using a mouse. It's easier for me to select things and scroll with one. I've also missed Jessicurl's Island Fantasy scent. It's my favorite scent for me. It also makes my hair soft. It's normally very dry. Need to get a new heat hat to pair with the deep conditioner. The Velcro closure failed on my old one. Think I'll get one without a closure and that uses flax seeds instead of gel packs to do the heating. My hair is thick so I have to wear hair treatments for eight hours at room temperature or half an hour with heat. That's the only heat I use on my hair. She dropped the weekly from the item as some use it daily and others use it for shaving. Too Shea conditioner is enough for my daily. I just need the deep conditioning once per week. Confident Coils styling solution offers some hold and humidity protection.

Often times the store brand is made by the brand name. They come out of the same factory. We are truck drivers and see it all the time. For instance, Malt o Meal brand is owned by Post. Made in same factory- same product- only difference is the packaging.

One of my other favorite youtubers "Frugal Fit Mom" also recommended to search for "discount grocer near me". I laughed, thinking no way do we have one. Well, that last laugh was on me because we certainly do have one. We've been shopping there for a few months now. They don't always have what I want or need and sometimes the dates are a bit old so you need to shop carefully but wow, I found a package of 10Lb bag of frozen pork chops for $10.00.

Hi Mary! Off topic question- I am now needing to be gluten-free and am also type 2. Have you made any gluten-free pasta? I have tried several commercial brands and the texture and taste is horrible. I have some corn flour I want to try in making it but if you have other GF flours or a combo that you've tried I would love to try it. Breads and pasta are what I miss most (in moderation). Love from Cypress Tx!

Making gluten free baked/pasta is very tricky and difficult. I make dumplings for soup as my daughter and myself are gluten free. That is about the only thing I have managed to make that tastes very similar to “gluten filled”.
@godsgreenacreshomestead7083 жыл бұрын
@@justme2059thanks for your reply. Yes, it's all pretty tricky. When I get a minute, I'm going back to Mary's episode of all the different grains and flours and maybe one of the lower gluten ones might give a better texture, Eincorn? Adjusting water, eggs and oil? I really don't want to go the rest of my life without occasional pasta. 🙂

Here is a great tip for those who drink bottled soda/energy drinks/coffees and such. Contact the bottling plant in your area. They bottle a lot of different drinks. As their stock is nearing their shelf date they will sell them on set date to clear out their warehouse. HUGE SAVINGS. Be prepared to buy by the case, so bring a big enough vehicle or trailer. Great savings.

When I lived in Phoenix we had a grocery company that had three different types of stores-a high end store, an average type supermarket, and one that catered to our Mexican community.
