Those are utility markers. Each utility/company, uses a differ color. Also they are sunk into the ground at a prescribed depth, so they can see rise or fall of soil.

Yes, you caught the Southern section of the PCT at just the right time, remember we had 170% of our annual rain fall this past rainey season so everything is in a superbloom. Normally socal would be much drier and brown. Enjoying your vlog, you are looking at the chaparral biome, which actually consist of hundreds of plants, such as sage, brushbush, manzanita, scrub oak, deer weed, yuccas, chollas, ocotillos, etc..., SAFE HIKING.

Mary It was with great interest that I watched all of your videos, but I do have one BIG problem. After watching all of your BEAUTIFUL photography and well documented true adventures, I don’t think that I will ever enjoy another KZbin thru-hike again. Your love for nature is amazing. This is truly a great adventure documentary that is neither over nor under done. Every episode is an exciting adventure. You are now my favorite KZbinr. I hope that you will do another trip soon. I’m going to take a virtual hike with you, a year later. Thank you for being meticulous and sharing so much of the trail. Hiking the PCT is a dream of mine. I live in Oregon and because of the stage I am in life I will likely section hike over a few summers. When I do, I hope to take it slow and enjoy it as you have so far. Many of the videos I watch go something like this, show mile 1 and then mile 35. I am truly thankful for the time and energy you have taken to put these videos together.

The only plants you’ll need to concern yourself with are poison oak (very common) and occasionally, poodle dog bush. The latter usually only seen in areas that were recently burned. Pro tip... when you get to an unclear junction, pull out your map. It’ll usually show you the correct direction. Glad you are enjoying the lovely spring flowers!

You are enjoying this way too much! Very nice videos. The lightish green bushes are sage. Pick a needle or two and smell! The more woody trees/bushes with the beautiful red bark are Manzanita.

Never trust the locals or other hikers. People may be snoring, everybody hears bears walking around. Up in the north everybody seems to see entire platoons of Mountain Lions and Grizzlies, often at the same time, twice per day. It's just a matter of time until somebody claims that Deer are spying for the Bears on hikers. So the Bears can prepare the side dishes in time, to be ready when a young and tasty hiker comes along...
@randysmith64935 жыл бұрын
Oh, you have to go back to Housers Creek to connect your steps, its a Thru Hike, :) i think its a law. I am sure I would taken a miss direction as well. Those plastic grass like markers are usually markers denoting buried, cable or pipe of some type, but a farmer could also use them denoting a survey line boundary for some reason. Glad your on trail, your video experience is cheery and refreshing, your smile blesses peoples day.

You are just so happy! Pretty sure you’re going to be the first thru hiker to never cry on the trail about anything 😉 such a joy to watch, thank you Mary, the world needs more positive people like you! Could you perhaps show how you’ve attached your umbrella to your pack when it’s up so your hands are free? I’m investing in a hiking umbrella but don’t want to be carrying it constantly. Couldn’t quite see on the video how it was done as you were filming from the other side.

A mountain coming up has many people stumped on how to pronounce its name. San Jacinto is pronounced, "San Ha-Sin-Toe", a Spanish name. The silver plants are Sage Brush. The red barked trees and brush are Manzanita. Both have a number of varieties. Some are tall and some shoter.

So Mary how's the tiger wall tent doing for you???? It's on my shopping list so I'm excited to hear about your experience so far.though short PCT time with it you've been training for a spell. Is it 2 early yet 2 ask?. My brain is slow cuz I just realized on this vid that your using a h2o bladder ( saw the tube on ur left side ). Nice to know I'm not the only one who does. My water stays cooler than a bottle on shoulders....( Don't like that clunky setup ). I have a adapter that let's me refill bladder w/o removal 😀🤩.. glad you are feeling good and you are right not to push until you get ur "trail legs" and as you say, there's plenty of scenery to take in meantime 😊

Do you think the green things could be either trail markers of some kind or the frayed end of something laid underneath the trail? Not sure! Great video. - What is the book you referenced as having on your phone? - How did the backpack hold up getting manhandled by airports? I've heard some horror stories, did you pack it in any special way?

I like the music you add to the videos, I'm amazed that people can even find good free music but i guess you have lots of practice before doing this hike. Doy you edit these from your cell phone? I'm astonished that this is possible. What program do you use? Or do you have a friend do it and you just send them (upload) to them as you get reception. Anyway, they are great videos.
