Delicious supper Mary Sunshine! 😋 I cold soak couscous in a Talenti (Gelato) cup with a bit of salt and olive oil...and some hot sauce if I am daring. There are so many different flavours and you can add to it for a complete meal on the trail. The quart sized freezer bags are awesome and light weight. I use an oxygen absorber for each bag to keep the contents fresh on trail. I carry a packet of dried herbs. Cold brewed tea is also nice with a dried mint leaf...very refreshing! The pine cone was a hoot! I can relate! I screamed like the banshee the other day when one of the pads from my laptop landed on my arm. It gave me a fright! I thought it was a leech! LOL! 😂 Happy trails! 🌺

I do believe stress free tea is a cure for pine cone trauma, and if it wasn't it is now! Another great video, thanks.

My goodness Mary, what size is your pack. At 3:05 when you hopped that fallen tree I was taken aback that your pack is as big as you! And to do it twice (once to set up your "B"roll shot) and back. That's three times over that huge tree without removing your pack. Very impressive. I'm 6', 220lbs (American scale) and I would have gladly taken my pack off and tossed it over first. You brighten my day with every video, I know the effort to put this all together takes and on the side you're doing a massive thru-hike. Chin up, crack on!!!!

Another cracking video Mary. Watch out those ants don't get you. Not to sure about your meal but if you like it that's what counts. Just catching up with your videos as I've been away hiking myself for 8 days and just back. You always look so cheery and full of life on your videos. All the best keep on plodding from Scotland

I love that you describe your meals in detail. I’m not vegan but trying to eat mostly plant based. If you can eat well as a vegan on the trail I can certainly move in that direction given the luxury of a fully equipped kitchen and ample shopping options!

Hello Mary, happy Tuesday. I like your hiking philosophy. Get up, eat, no major plans, hike until you get tired, then stop and take break. Ants are really industrious little creatures. You never see them stop and take a break. Your dinner sounds really yummy. Take care out there, be safe and hike your own hike. 🤗

Mary, Mary !!!! Are you sure you didn't scare the pine cone !!! It look like it froze right in its tracks in the middle of the trail lol 🤣 Sometimes I wonder if the ants r picking up crumbs from trail food/snacks!?!? Ya know how those hiker types like their sugary goodies 😋😋 Also, TVP makes for good tacos on trail....in place of the ground burger 👍🏼😲😋 not 2 mention stuffed bellpepper w couscous or/and quinoa or main stream rice such as Spanish rice , one of my favorites, the list is as wide as ur imagination 🤗 Such great work Mary that you do !!!! Keep on rockin in the Free world !!!!

The San Bernardino Mountains are the worst when it comes to massive ant numbers along my hike. Maybe it's just that time of year, idk. At Cajon Junction the ants are less numerous, but there are very serious red ants there. Just one bit me behind the knee and it felt like a burning needle for 5 hours and then itched like a son of a gun for another 24.

I like how you don't have a plan for the day...just hike and see what comes your way. You're enjoying the trail, which is why you're hiking. I assume, though, that you do give some thought to where to get water, since water is heavy and you don't want to carry too much...or run out. Hike On!

I'm curious how you decided on the PCT her in America instead of another long trail like the AT or the CDT? Love your videos and could you show more vegan trail food?
@MarysOutdoorAdventures
@MarysOutdoorAdventures 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Sarah, I chose the PCT for the diversity of the trail and the vastly different scenery I would get to experience. I didn’t fancy the CDT as this is my first proper thru-hike and felt the PCT would be more suited to my needs as I believe it is a little more easier to navigate.

Mary, we love your happy-go-lucky cherry attitude. However we are somewhat concerned about your progress, but only if you are actually intending on doing the entire trail. It appears that you are averaging about 10 miles per day. At that rate it will take a total of eight months to do the entire PCT. That could put you in the mist of some very difficult weather. Rule of thumb is “finish the trail” by 10/1. That means you have three months to finish. BUT. . .hike you own hike and enjoy everyday you are on the trail. We are certainly enjoying it. FYI

I think you are going about it the right way. Enjoy your trip all the way. I wonder how many regret having "hurried along" to "eat miles" with very little time to rest and look around? No girl, take it all in, this will be with you for years to come. If I where walking in your shoes I would have tried to take a few of my zero days on the trail, just laying still, alongside a creek or a river, a pond or in the forest. "A room with a view", of course, rain-fly off, just the sky and the heavens above....:) : PS love to listen to you talk bout your food, reminds me why I like and prefer meat .

That’s such a lovely comment, thank you! I see a lot of miserable people out here crunching miles and it all being about getting to Canada. Most people have skipped where I am now. I’m in the Sierra section and I’m pushing through but it’s slow and tough going. There is a high chance I won’t get to Canada but I don’t want to skip the trail no matter how difficult as it is so beautiful. I’ve accepted I’m here to hike the PCT in all it’s glory and if it means I don’t get to Canada in time that’s okay...the journey it incredible and I don’t want to ruin the experience by being a mile cruncher. I’m happy to get comments like yours as others are ‘concerned’ about my mileage. I’m having an amazing time and wouldn’t have it any other way 😁

@@MarysOutdoorAdventures Good to hear! I would think that when people set out on hike that will last for months, part of their motivations would be to be able to live life in the slow lane for a while, not having to live by the clock all the time. Getting time off from the "achievement culture" we live in. Not saying it is wrong to have goals or to achieve them, but...well.. you know...I imagine getting a way from the "stress of everyday" life would be part of the motivation for many or most. And if so, why "stress" while doing it? Anyway, keep enjoying it! Love following your journey and watching your videos ....when back from another stressful day at work. :-) and PS: and I do actually enjoy when you talk about your food, learning something new isn't a bad thing . Btw, just heard a good one in video from another PCT hiker; "Every day out here is a good day, even the bad ones".
