They would either find and eliminate the threat early or train themselves to attempt and match the androids. Gohan could step up, but like in the future timeline, he'd be handicapped by training without the benefit of Goku's guidance and most likely starting significantly weaker than he did in the original. It's true that the Android would probably be weaker, but if they still have the same capabilities, such as 19 and 20 having the energy absorption and most likely superior flight abilities given how flight was depicted pre-Saiyan and Namek sagas, they'd probably be in a better position to defeat the heroes in this version.

Trigga’s fighting style going forward should’ve totally be “Drunken Fist”-esque. Tumbling and barely holding his balance. Also, the idea of a Z-fighter who had a different mindset was interesting. Instead of wanting to fight like Goku, really caring about increasing his skill like Vegeta, or helping his friends like Krillin, Trigga could totally be like “I’ll help you if this threatens my farm and family, but otherwise I wanna be left alone.” He’d stay out of the Frieza saga, Android saga, Buu saga, and even Beerus saga, but then decide to get involved in the Cell saga and maybe eventually the ToP, but far less than would be convenient for the Heroes.

I think it could have still changed for the better. One of the important things about Goku and the gang never going to space is that they'll have been around when other potential trouble occurred (so Goku's status could have been higher, without him intending it, which could change how things played out, at least on a personal level). We also know the bulk of Gero's data comes from the latter part of the Saiyan Saga, so without anyone who can give all important information, Gero likely doesn't know how Saiyan physiology works, so making up for the fact Saiyans get enormous power boosts from near death experiences would not be in his data. Also of note, Goku (and likely now Raditz) would train with Kami, which, using the hyperbolic time chamber, would result in them being substantially stronger. According to the Manga, Goku had already been in there once during Dragonball (training for the 23rd Martial Arts Tournament, he could only stay in for a month due to the overwhelming atmosphere - but being in there is apparently why his height shot up during that period), so they already would be using it, and it's unlikely Gero's drones could put up with being stuck in there that long (or if they could even put up with the drastic pressure change).

If everyone is weaker though, the data that can be used to determine 17 and 18’s fighting abilities is also lessened. It doesn’t make sense to assume they’d have the same power when Gero based them on weaker fighters. Tbh the scenario could turn out much better just based on that. Worst case reasonably is that something akin to History of Trunks happens with Bulma traveling back instead and just destroying the lab in the new timeline.

I'd argue that there's no reason for them to be that much weaker since Gero's data only went to the end of the Saiyan saga, meaning that he massively over compensated when he made 16-20. You also need to keep in mind that flight and major use of ki only became a thing around the Saiyan saga thanks to the training everyone did. Without that need to get stronger, it's possible that they'd be not only weaker, but have less mastery of those abilities, meaning the androids would have a major advantage over them.

Presumably before he decided to put his brain into a robot. Like I said, not sure it it's a dub addition or not though.

Wouldn't the death of one of their friends trigger Super Saiyan in Goku or Raditz, though? The whole point about Goku getting so mad about Krillin's death was that, as far as he knew, there was no bringing back to life anymore, tipping him over the edge and triggering his transformation, so even with this timeline, Goku could win out with the sudden burst of power from turning Super Saiyan.

Keep in mind that Super Saiyan is only a multiplier on a person's power. If Goku's base form is weaker than them to the point that even the 50x boost wouldn't matter, then even Super Saiyan won't help.

Hmm...I think there would've been a reason for others from space to go to Earth at some point. Raditz may have been weak and worthless as far as Vegeta and Nappa were concerned, but what about Turles? Perhaps his visit would've set something else off out in space that puts Earth on the map as something to be investigated and it eventually reaches the Frieza forces where Vegeta and Nappa eventually make the trip under orders. Granted, this puts their arrival later than in the original, but I do see Vegeta and Nappa eventually meeting up with them on Earth with Piccolo still dying causing the need to find Namek and go through that saga as I would expect different casualties this time around and them not wanting the Earth to be left without a guardian.

Hitting the head just after setting foot on Earth seems to be a family thing XD Also, the ending with the androids would mean one more thing: No space involved means no Vegeta, which means no Trunks to go back in time. And even if we have a human Trunks, son of Bulma and Yamcha, the whole point of going back in time was to heal Goku from his illness. In this timeline, Goku simply gets defeated by the Androids, so there's really no hope. BUT: A what if into a what if: what if this timeline's 17 and 18 are like the ones we know? Not murder-freak maniacs of destruction like the ones in Trunks' future, but more like neutral renegades wanting to do whatever they please on a small scale. When you mentioned Triga's love life, I tought "wow imagine if he ends up with 18?" So the android saga might work with Triga being the one voicing out for not fighting the androids instead of Crillin. This timeline would also either feature a Cell with no Vegeta or Freeza's cells, or no Cell at all. I think there is room for more.

I like the premise, the ending was a bit grim so I thought of a way the story could continue... Some time after Kami tells Raditz and Goku about Goku’s past, Both Raditz and Goku are curious about their common initial encounter with earth. At some point they ask Kami but he doesn’t know. Then Goku thinks about using the dragon balls. Goku gets in touch with Bulma for the radar, (maybe she and Raditz vibe well). Bulma asks about Goku’s wording of the wish. In short, they want to be transported to someone who can answer their questions. Bulma won’t go with them due to the amount of unknowns with where they could be transported to, so instead; Bulma makes and gives Goku and Raditz a special device to track their whereabouts. This device can track Goku’s and Raditz’s DNA. And as an added precaution, she also makes a device that tracks DNA tracking devices. She says if that’s not enough to locate them to send a retrieval ship, she can always use the dragon balls again to get them back. Goku’s and Raditz’s wish sends them to King Kai’s planet. Jokes are told, questions are answered and they find a new training spot. At some point they’re able to contact Bulma through King Kai. Before they leave Goku and Raditz want to know how they can got back and forth easily without the dragon balls, King Kai says they can take snake way though that might get tedious, maybe he teaches them instant transmission. Note: They probably would have learned about several things, the fate of the Saiyans, remaining survivors etc. which could be the spark for a new adventure. Story: Meanwhile on earth, Bulma’s DNA tracking tracker picks up a signal on earth. She wonders who else would need to know the whereabouts of Goku via DNA and to an even greater surprise the whereabouts of Raditz. From here the plot can go in several directions; does Bulma investigate alone? Does she wait for Goku and Raditz? Does she get help from the other Z fighters? Note: This could be how the Z Fighters discover Dr. Gero’s plot much earlier than in the original series and possibly stop cell and the androids sooner. Maybe they’re discovered and Bulma reprograms them all. Edit: feel free to use/alter/continue from here if you feel inclined

Um... There is one difference between what you said and what I think probably would have happened. 17 and 18 were necessary because of the super human powers of ssj. Without them... 19 and 20 would have been too much and that would mean the world would be in the palm of Gero's hand... Which would result in Gero with maybe a completed Cell. But Gero is sort of a Lex Luthor type. Hates Goku with a passion but isn't anti-Earth. He lives there afterall. Once he got his revenge and petty grudges out, it would have turned into a Red Ribbon Government situation, but that's the worst.

Well Trunks wouldn’t even exist since his father never arrived. Maybe Bulma would have a kid with someone else but since the father wouldn’t be saiyan that’s not too much of a help

The farmer's name is Nofu, and his gun is actually a Winchester 1866 (not a shotgun)... edit: I actually disagree with the ending, I don't think going to Namek is a requirement for the Super Saiyan transformation. Goku and -Raditz- Triga were now close friends, so if one of them went down, then the other would go into that golden rage; and there being no Super Saiyan transformation prior would mean that the Androids would be caught unaware by this. Piccolo is not part of the Dragon Team and would likely stay out of the way of the Android menace, so the Dragon Balls are still available to restore any loss. Now the Buu Saga may be a different story though...

The question would become than, would Super Saiyan be enough to stop the androids even if they are caught unaware by it. And I really don't see it being enough, since Super Saiyan is only a multiplier on someone's base power. Goku and Raditz would need to make a massive jump in power for it to be enough to stop them, and I really can't see it happening since Goku in the original needed gravity training up to 100x earth's gravity to get strong enough to fight the Ginyu's alone, and he only got the idea because of King Kai's planet.
