Watched at .25x speed. After the knee, Zambidis stepped back and looked at his right foot. He blocked the knee as Masato jumped in and as he spun out of the corner Masato pushed him down. It shouldn't have been ruled a knockdown. I would like to see a "5 Things That Make Zambidis So Good" video!

I thought Zambidis won. The “knockdown” looked more like a push to me and he clearly won the last two rounds. That said, judging is so bad in all of the promotions that I can’t say it was favoritism. I’ve seen worse decisions in UFC many many times.

I'm torn on this one. On the one hand there was no strike directly putting him down at that moment, but on the other hand, the knee to the liver definitely had an effect and as he was coming out of the corner it looked more like he got overwhelmed rather than pushed. I can totally understand a ref counting there, thinking that the fighter is going don trying to avoid getting swarmed.

I'd score this one a draw too. Unfortunately K1 used to play favourites with japanese fighters on many occasions, like Musashi for example. At some point I even started to dislike japanese fighters, because those unfair decisions kept piling up, which was unfair to them because they weren't the ones who made those calls. Great channel Gabriel btw, I'm newly subbed. And those old K1 fights bring back memories... :)

After seeing the replay by yourself, what do you think happened to Zambidis after that knee in the first round? He shook off his right leg. Was that due to the knee strike, or something else?

@Great White But you don't just win based on one knockdown, even in a three round fight. The rules are clear on the value of a knockdown. It wins you that round, generally 10-8, unless the other guy is a super human. But that's just that one round. Masato clearly lost the last round, so it comes down to the second round, and that one was extremely close.

That knee definitely looked like it hit the liver and had an effect. It's so weird that Mike shook out his leg in the corner, but if you go down like that, you can't really complain about getting an 8-count. The second round is a toss-up. I would score this one a draw, based on Mike's good punching, but the second round is super close. What I'm asking myself is why Masato abandoned the low kicks in the last round. They worked so well in the second and Mike's leg was showing obvious damage. I noticed a few checks where Masato ran into shin-on-shin contact, but he didn't seem to be fazed by it. Still, no low kicks of any note in the last round. Weird.

Great commentary and breakdown. I think Zambidi should have taken it. I'm also struck by how weak both fighters are in their leg game. Masato has decent knees but only when he has that grip on Zambidi's head. Their low kicks are mostly marginal, especially when you compare them to Buakaw who showed everyone what legs can do. Also interesting to me is the fact that Masato's style of head clinch is what K-1 didn't like about Buakaw's style and effectiveness against Japanese fighters, and in later years they changed rules to give Muay Thai fighters less dominance. Lastly, Masato had some nice little side kicks and trips that I'd never noticed before, he certainly never got to show those to Buakaw!

With the first round knock down I would give the Win to Masato. In the later 2 rounds, Mike’s punches clearly scored a lot, however, he looked quite vulnerable in the clinching position.

@@gerardocovarrubias1127 Sanda, although I agree is the strongest kung fu style, is far from popular. Which is sad, if I could train only one striking style it would be sanda, since it’s integration of takedowns in striking is far and above the other striking options. Perfect for MMA. Zhang Weili, current UFC strawweight champ, said that although she had been doing kung fu for almost all her life, she only found out about sanda later in life. So if a chinese martial artist didn’t even know that sanda existed for so much of her life, how popular could it be? Here I’ll link a video that explains it better than I can m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnzOgoGhg5JpZpY

Im a big iron mike z fan, but the knockdown looked legit to me. Mike took two knees which backed him up and clearly did some damage. It almost looked like Mike was about to take a knee himself when masato leaped in with the final knee and Mike tumbles. None of them were the worst knees I've ever seen but they did do damage and kd was legit.
