Masayoshi Soken Plays the Otamatone

Usually, I'm the one playing epic FFXIV songs on my Otamatone poorly, however, when I asked for Soken's autograph at FanFest, I also asked him for a small request. I asked for him to play his favorite FF song on my Otamatone, and in true Soken fashion, he did!

Thank you all for the kind comments and recognition! Soken is truly an amazing, kind, and generous soul. I originally had only brought my Otamatone to show it to my FC mates, but I decided to carry it with me at the last second that day just in case I happened to meet Soken, and I'm so glad I had the chance to have this amazing moment. It's one of my most memorable moments I've had since beginning this game! I truly do think this is the origin! Every Fanfest after this one has included some kind of goofy Otamatone moment, and it feels amazing that such a small interaction has grown into something that everyone can share in. I'm glad this video exists so everyone can see how genuinely kind the devs are when they aren't on the stage! My only regret now is that Soken's Otamatone skills have become more infamous than mine XD

I'm so happy you got to meet him! I love his look of concentration as he figures out where the exact notes are. What a lovely memory! I was able to go to the 2016 and 2018 fanfests, and so far the only person I have been able to catch on the floor has been Murochi-san. He was kind enough to sign my totebag for me. :) They really need to do another 4 or 5 runs of the Encyclopedia! My ex-husband took his copies with him when we divorced, lol, and now I need new ones. ^ ^; So, I'm also happy you were able to get a copy of the Encyclopedia, too! 😀

If you can label notes correctly by sound alone, and then figure out how to 'pluck' those keys from an instrument... you're set. Just takes practice from there to transition between chords consistently n smoothly on a specific instrument.

What strikes me most isn't how fast he got the chocobo theme together - it's that he makes sure the recording is as good as possible for his fan: - He picks one of the most Iconic melodies of the franchise - He tunes the instrument to high pitch so it's better audible against the background noise. - And he leans in close to the cameraperson so it's optimally picking up the sound.

GOD I WAS SO NERVOUS, so the laughing is mostly because of nerves! But yes, Japanese does instantly instill a different set of body language, tone of voice, and comportment, which is why when I ask for a photo at the end of the video, I seem REALLY confused on how I should go about doing it both linguistically and physically - it's jarring switching between the two, especially since I don't get many chances to do it!
