They bring wonderful acting intensity to this performance, to say nothing of their world class musical talent. Baltsa and Carreras are an especially powerful couple on stage, and the betrayal of love they portray here is almost terrifying.

Davvero un ottimo Turiddu! Dispiace che Carreras, in teatro, non abbia praticato maggiormente questo ruolo. Aveva tutto: timbro e fraseggio da giovane seduttore, accento adatto al repertorio verista quanto a quello verdiano, spiccata musicalità e - dato evidente a chi lo abbia sentito in teatro - una insospettabile potenza: fino ai primi anni Novanta, la sua voce risuonava come una tromba!

Heartbreaking the INTENSITY, we don't get this anymore. I was lucky to see Baltsa as Santuzza, Carmen etc. and she was a FIREBRAND. The Callas GREEK FIRE still burned bright. And Carreras...the PHRASING, the ELEGANCE....unbelievable.

Rohangiz Yachmi. She was absolutely smouldering and exciting in terms of her vocal production. I should know because I have the DVD of Strauss's Elektra starring Leonie Rysanek in the title role, and she sang the Third Maid.
