Hey man. I'm really struggling here. When i select MIDI from Maschine on my external midi instrument channel (1:37 Seconds in) I get pre FX and Post FX In the drop down box but no Maschine. Ive uninstalled Maschine and Ableton, Updated them both, Re downloaded the Midi Drivers For Maschine and i still just don't get that option. I have absolutely no idea why and without it I cant send MIDI to Ableton. Please Help!!!

+SadMoneyMusic Ableton doesn't really let you dictate which midi channel you're receiving from a plugin which is why it doesn't work this way with more than one kit.

I don't understand why you transposed the root note and I couldn't tell what you transposed it to. And I can't for the life of me make maschine show up in the second slot. It shows up in the "All Ins" Section but the one below that it just says post and pre fx. Can you help? Thanks

Jack Spade I transposed because Maschine groups start on c3 by default so I needed the MIDI notes to line up. Make sure you're using the VST plugin, AU do not have MIDI output so they won't show up.

Maschine Tutorials I am able to follow everything on your tutorial, but when it comes to adding a second midi group from maschine, or another scene for that matter, I have not been successful. I cannot trigger more than 2 individuals groups from maschine onto ableton separately, without it triggering everything at once. I have resorted to your above comment of just recording the audio from maschine and using ableton as the arrangement, instead of maschine. I feel like i loose my creative workflow, by focusing on ensuring that everything is perfect on maschine to record the best audio. Lol at this point i have focused more on technicalities rather than making music =].

G0ng33 I'm not a fan of how Maschine works in a DAW, especially when you start trying to use multiple channels at the same time. They need a way to "arm" individual groups/channels to make it easier to use in my opinion. Especially when you're trying to trigger from the pads.

I got this working properly I think. I can record MIDI into ableton on one pass, but if I try and overdub or add extra parts, it wont record back into the clip. I can tell its reading the input because when I trigger a pad the keyboard matrix to the left of the Midi editors lights up, but nothing records in. Not sure how to fix this - kind of kills workflow to only be able to record one pass and thats it.

Updated settings for Maschine 2.7.0 and Ableton 9.7.5 (the key to getting audio playback for me after recording MIDI is changing the Root/Start note under "Group > Input > Midi to C3 (default was C1, which didn't work)). In summary, follow the video and update these settings: Sound > Output > Midi > Dest = Host, Channel = 1, "Transpose" - changes for each pad, but you can set pad 1 to "0." Next, Sound > Input > Midi > Source = Default, Channel = All, Thru = Off. Group > Input > Midi > Key mode = manual, source = host, channel = 1, START/ROOT NOTE CHANGE TO C3, Thru = off. A huge thanks to St Joe, whomout with many of us, including myself, would be completely lost when it comes to Maschine and DAW integration. Good luck everyone and have fun jammin' :-)

Thanks for the video very helpful. I am using that to send midi to external hardware. However the midi channel seems stripped in ableton. Meaning if I have two groups in Maschine sending on different midi channels and route that into two separate midi tracks in ableton which forward it to each hardware on separate midi channel, both external hardware will receive midi no matter which group in Maschine is used. Do you have a suggestion how to fix that?

Pretty sure that's an issue in Live with sending MIDI from the plugin as you can't dictate the channel you're sending out from the track, it's just the MIDI output. You could try a MIDI device or Max for Live device to adjust maybe.

I remember running into this issue using multiple groups from the Maschine plugin via MIDI, I know I put in requests to have more control over what channels you send out from the plugin via MIDI so it's not just one main midi output. Things like Studio One let you do this with ease.

What's good st joe....I'm recording midi from the maschine plugin into live and unable to hear omnisphere sounds when used within the maschine plugin. The midi bar is triggering like it's receiving but no sound. Omnisphere is working standalone as a plugin in live but not as a plugin inside the maschine plugin.

Great tutorial. I've been through it 5 times. Everything identical to what you do. It records onto the external instrument track in MIDI, I can see the midi notes and they light up the LED meter of the external track upon playback but they will not light up the LED meter of the track 1, the main track or output any sound in Ableton upon playback. Hi! Thanks for the videos.. This run for the kits ok..but when I load various instruments (pads or bass) in different groups must I do the same things? Or must I do the same things (that are you doing in the video) for every single instruments? Practically I load maschine VST, midi track and another midi track for the plug in external instruments, do the same things and run the instruments that I choose FOR EVERY instruments? I've tried to load various instruments for the same maschine VST but obviously when I load an effect (such as reverb or delay), it run for all instruments loaded.

Daniele Lospalluto If you want to do it with instruments, don't use sounds to midi notes, you can either use sounds to midi channels or just manually set each pad to have it's own midi channel, that way it will respond to all the notes on the midi channel instead of just one note.

I just recorded a MIDI clip on live from maschine and now that I use that midi clip on the maschine track so I can listen to it, a strange sort of low bell sound triggers when ever a chord starts. I have everything setup as batch to notes and am able to overdub but when I try to overdub with a different kit loaded in Group B, whatever sound I hit last in Group B gets triggered by any Group A sound already recorded to the midi track. lootaloot I'm on a PC so I don't have a way to show logic, but if you're doing a MIDI drag and drop, make sure you do the MIDi batch setup on the Maschine group as "sounds to midi notes" so you can have the midi triggering your group properly. Also make sure you turn on the MIDI input for the group.

For some reason, when i bring up the piano roll, i can pencil in notes from Machine, but it will not record notes from the pads. Also the keys on the piano roll will not light up when i press the pad. Something in my routing is not correct i'm bet. +Aron Collar The problem is in Live you can't specify which MIDI channel you're receiving from the Maschine plugin so it won't really work with multiple groups. If you want multiple groups I'd say load Maschine multiple times, you can switch between instances directly from the controller. Honestly I don't even mess with MIDI in Live with Maschine, I just record straight to audio

Great tutorial, I got how to transfer the midi. After a lot of trial and error, I seem to can't figure out how to alter the paramters of the midi, where it be a pitch shift or adding an auto filter unless it's applied to the actual maschine slot, which of course would apply to all the instruments attached to it. I've also tried making two maschine slots, each with own attached banks to see if I could have one with effects and the other without, but it only receives data from one of the maschine slots(even if I route each maschine slot to it's own external instrument). Mind giving some pointers on how to navigate around this so I can have more customization with my midi data?

Jv Montecillo Make sure it's pointed to the Maschine track properly, and make sure you have your audio routed properly so you can hear it. If it's going to an external output in Maschine make sure you have that output chosen in your external instrument.

You open an external instrument from the browser under instruments. If the routing is done correctly this will work.

I'm probably missing something obvious but what would the workflow advantage to this be over just capturing the midi data inside a pattern in Maschine then just dragging it out as a clip if you wanted the raw midi data in your DAW?

regalpierot It's just a different workflow, some prefer to just do all of their sequencing directly into Live as opposed to drag and drop. They both are useful, it's just a matter of preference really. Personally I normally just capture the audio output of Maschine directly to an audio track. So it's just about having multiple options of working that fit your own workflow.

I finally got this to work (midi to record and sound to play back) on Maschine 2.7.0 and Ableton 9.7.5 by changing the Root/Start note under "Group > Input > Midi to C3 (default was C1, which didn't work). In summary, follow the video and update these settings: Sound > Output > Midi > Dest = Host, Channel = 1, "Transpose" - changes for each pad, but you can set pad 1 to "0." Next, Sound > Input > Midi > Source = Default, Channel = All, Thru = Off. Group > Input > Midi > Key mode = manual, source = host, channel = 1, START/ROOT NOTE CHANGE TO C3, Thru = off. A huge thanks to St Joe, whomout with many of us, including myself, would be completely lost when it comes to Maschine and DAW integration. Good luck everyone and have fun jammin' :-)

You need to check the MIDI routing in Maschine to make sure it is set to receive properly.

This setup isn't configured to record the sound, it's set to record the MIDI. You need to route the MIDI properly back to the Maschine plugin track for it to actually trigger the sounds.

Milo No, if it's a usb keyboard you can hook it up to your computer and turn it on as a midi input in Maschine's software. You can use a midi cable if you want also and connect it directly to Maschine, just make sure you tun on Maschine midi input port.

So I figured out everything with the routing of the pads, the problem is when you highlight and select all the pads it stays that way until you deselect all of them. It works great except for one last and final thing I can't figure out. When I duplicate a pad and assign it to its own channel, the duplicated pad also triggers the original pad, so I get layered pads of the same sound and I can't figure out how to fix this. Any thoughts? I appreciate all the help and everything you do for us.

Maschine Tutorials I checked and they have each been set to their own external channel. The duplicated pad is triggering but also triggering the original pad it was copied from. It seems that they are sending the same note. When I transpose the copied pad it triggers itself and a different pad. I know I can transpose it so that it only triggers itself, but this doesn't happen in stand alone mode and is kind of a work flow killer. Any suggestions?

OHAD I'm not sure what you mean, but you can give each pad it's own midi channel if you wish, instead of doing the sounds to midi notes, you'd do sounds to midi channels. Then you'd have to setup separate midi or external instrument tracks for each one.

I tried that.. but I can't choose on Ableton a different midi channel from maschine, only the output to maschine. What I'm trying to do is, when i create a pattern in Maschine, I want instead of dragging midi file from maschine to Ableton to record the pattern to a midi channel in Ableton. You can do it when Maschine is in controller mode (because than of course it works like any midi controller), but not when it's in 'Live' Mode.

OHAD You can send midi to Maschine on different channels, just not from Maschine on different channels. You could try recording each part separately instead of all together if you want separate MIDI channels. This is a limitation of Ableton and the way it handles midi from plugins/other tracks. But if you're actually creating the pattern in Maschine it may be faster to just drag the MIDI out, unless you're trying to capture a live performance of the pattern itself.

for fl studio make sure that you're doing all of the steps from this video. when you're done, open a midi out instance in fl studio, set the input the same as maschine (ex. 1) and then just be aware that the root note setting from maschine it's a little different for fl studio, so if you set the root note c3 for maschine, you're root note in fl studio should be c5. i've just managed to make this thing to work. i think i've searched for a solution for over a year now, so i'm glad that i found some method to partially fix my needs and workflow. ty maschine tutorials!

All of the settings are in the video, if the routing is setup properly it will work. Make sure you're using the VST and not the AU.

Using a VST. Mysteriously got it to work! Im using 2.4 so its slighlty different, mainly the Input Midi channel. I spent all day frustrated, trying to figure this out but it works. My only beef is that when I record, the entire sequence of notes are being recorded into each clip but only the dedicated Midi note responds to the midi clip. Is there a way around that? I tried Group to Midi channels but it didnt work.

If you're recording instruments don't use "sounds to midi notes" as that only gives one midi note per pad. Instead, just setup each pad you want to use with it's own MIDI channel so that it responds to the entire note range.

+Sunyatae D. For a synth you just need to turn midi on for the pad, you don't need to do the "sounds to midi notes" because you want all the notes on that specific pad, and give that pad it's own midi channel.

Yes, if you route the MIDI to another track hosting a vst, you can use chord mode with that vst. I've done a video on it with the Mikro, works the same for any other Maschine.

I want to record midi from both in ableton on the same channel. is that possible? if i set my midi track in ableton MIDI FROM to "all ins" i would think all devices would be able to record midi including maschine but it doesn't, only the spd controller does, maschine only works if i set maschine in the MIDI FROM tab. one thing i'm trying to pull of live is making a midi loop with maschine sounds in ableton, but then making an instrument loop from the maschine controller - within the same kit, either in the same midi track in ableton or in the maschine software itself. i know if anyone can understand this it's you!:) appreciate any guidance on this, thanks

Industry Standard Exactly. You just go to that single pad, and set it's midi output to host so that when you put it in in keyboard mode it will transmit all the notes on the same channel. You would also go to that pads input tab and turn on midi input. You could also right click on the whole group and do a "sounds to midi channels" if you want to use all 16 on their own channel.
