Yes we do grow very differently, I bet they're easier up north with the cooler weather! I did my undergraduate up in Lancaster, far too cold for me haha, I'll stick to the south 🤣 ! Home vs greenhouse too. Great to have diversity in how we grow!

My one and only Masdevallia (herradurae) is doing so far so good. Supposedly blooming size but who knows...(and supposedly fragrant as well). And supposedly OK in warmer climate... I would like to see the spike of yours. Mine is growing well but can’t tell what is new growth and what is spikes...

I've had them in bloom videos before, my glandulosa had 20+ flowers back in winter. If you want to see this one in bloom I linked it in the description, or for a closer look at the spikes the glandulosa videos show them better

Massive growth ❤️❤️❤️Reluctant to get this type of orchid. My temperature can go up to 40-45 degrees celcius on summer time. I hate to see them suffer.😔

Agreed, that does sound a bit more than even the warmth tolerant ones could take 😥 (Also me, I'd wilt! 😅) They might take it for a few days, but longer than that it would probably be an uphill struggle, unless you have a cooler basement or garage!

I love the mastevalia flowers 🌸 but I’m afraid to try them here in Texas with it being so hot. Maybe if I baby it a bit, this one would work here. 😏Thanks for sharing. Take care 👋

There are some that would cope better than others if you have a cooler winter period that they can catch up in? I'd definitely recommend the splendida, it's pretty tough. Some would just keel over with long, hot, dry summers. If you can get nights around or below 22C it helps them, but that probably isn't easy during your summers!

I bring them all inside for winter. I keep the house kinda cool all year at around 69 degrees so that would probably be okay but they don’t get the night drops that they like. I’m converting a lot to self-watering to help with summer heat and I think it will help in the winter too if there stable by then. 🤔 Anyway, it’s all part of the joy and journey of growing orchids I guess 😏 Take care Annabelle and have a great week !!😌

That would be totally fine for some, like the splendida I think. The night temps are more necessary if the days are warmer IMO. But it's tough to know how they would react until you try! Like you say, all part of the orchid journey! 🙂

Had to do the editing at work, we aren't allowed to remain in the building for anything other then essential research, not allowed to eat there or use communal areas or offices etc, so I had 4 hours sat in my car waiting for a time point 😪 I have no time to do videos otherwise. I just bought a cheap Massie to see what happens if I keep it inside, on the lowest shelf under the light. We'll see what happens soon I'm sure.

The Orchid Room it is labeled Orange Glow but I can’t find it as a registered name. For $10, it was worth trying. It looked good out of the box, surprising given how hot it is and being shipped bare root.
