I still reckon the Granturismo has always been underrated: It's one of the best looking cars ever made (and it's stylish, not fashionable, so I think it will always look good), one of the best sounds from a car ever, fast (but not too fast that you can't push it), a proper rear boot, and it has 4 useable seats. But to be honest, I like that it's underrated. It keeps it special.

You're spot on regarding the reasons to buy one. As a petrolhead who doesn't care about what others think, I can tell you I decided for one because of 1) sound, and 2) brand image. I feel like people dont understand maserati. People are too quick to judge. The cars. Based off of their price. The fact is that maserati is a brand that covers a wide array of markets, not only does the brand compete with the likes of companies like ferrari, lamborghini, bently, atom martin etc... but they also compete with the upper class levels of the traditional luxury market like mercedes, audi, porsche etc... And this is why the brand is unique. Because when it comes to the upper luxury class, you dont find the brand attaching its name to cars that exist for the purpose of sales like brands such as merc, bmw, etc... And the cars in that segment are in my opinion the best there. But at the same time when you go to the upper stratosphere of cars like the ferrari territory the company is able to compete while at the same time offering fantastic value because you have a car that is of that specific tier of car, yet its an actual feasible dream. Its something one can aspire too and actually achieve. Most people that own ferraris are multi millionaires when most rich people in general are not, sure for the same price as an mc stradale you can buy a used ferrari. And that car will have been tailor made for someone else and will have less performance than the maserati which is equally as hand made and equally as tailored. Furthermore with these cars its about the passion and not about selling an image like lamborghinis, the brand is typically more elegant and is unrivalled even by companies such as Bentley in this regard. These cars are performers that are elegant and have a history like no other brand, in the days of early ferrari and lamborghini these cars were out selling ferraris and lambos and were bought by respectable people like royalty and industrialists, the celebrities that owned these kinds of cars were people like Pavarotti. The brand is still amongst the most glamorous and is actually attainable while still being a dream car, and thats why id have one over anything else

Maserati doesn't compete with Lamborghini and Ferrari, they compete with audi, mercedes, porsche, aston martin, bmw and bentley. But not with all out sports cars.

frank rs the thing about maserati is that they compete in a marketplace yes, but the brand only competes in price, it has this essence that it is truly classless. there is no car that is a maserati or comes close, sure cars can be aimed in the same price range but at the end of the day its not a maserati. maserati is classless although they have a price tag thats really the only thing that ties them to any sort of competition

Time, this car is timeless such as the 4200 and 3200 every one of them has its own identity there id not one audi besides the 80s quattro which accomplishes this fact if you're having the r8 for a couple of years its great but a want my car to be amazing for for the first 15 months and the next 15 years.. thats what car design is all about

We had a 2003 Quattroporte once for 3 years. It broke down due to battery issues. Not really a big deal if you are giving an Italian brand a chance after mercs and bimmas of the top range. But then: As a "gift" we got a GranTurismo MC Stradale in stunning red color as a coutesy vehicle while the Quattroporte got repaired. I only drove it once... not too long. But boy oh boy. I will never forget it. Put it in 4th gear at 50 km/h and utilize the pedal gently but semi- firm and you have a feeling and sound experiance thats hard to forget. Sublime petrolhead gas burning experience. It had its flaws... surely. The gearbox felt really outdated and it was dangerous to park the car in narrow spots due to its "jumpiness" when standing still and thying to move 20 cm in any direction. It just slammed the gear in suddenly and you couldny crawl. Its been a while now since this experiance... but boy oh boy. Would i choose a nearly perfect GT3 today or this stunning machine? Thats a really hard question to answer. Depends... really. And i salute Maserati for not forcingly copying the obvious perfect, efficient and funcioning everyday- racer... but i`m still celebrating the imperfect perfection that no German brand was interested in to produce.

Don't do this to me... Would you choose Gisele Bündchen or Adriana Lima? The problem is that I love both British and Italian cars. Aston has James Bond, Maserati doesn't and maybe because of that, I'll choose the Maserati. The underdog. personally really love the Granturismo alot. Especially the exterior looks, it has more of a classy feeling attached to it combining with the flare of Italian sportiness. However the interior really needs to be updated, looks really old especially with those cheap looking buttons

I bought a 2011 GranTurismo coupé with low miles (12k miles)... it arrived late at night on a rainy day. When I woke up the next day, my wife had already been out for a walk and her comment when seeing me in the kitchen will always make me smile... she said, "That's a really beautiful car" and that alone sealed the deal. She had no problem what so ever with the purchase. Thank god! :-)

I had the opportunity to drive a Maserati GT that I had borrowed from a friend and man was it a blast its headturning and its surprisingly quick and agile. Overall a great car to drive and if I had the chance to get one I would in a heartbeat!

Of course we'd all have to drive all the different competitors to *really* know what we were talking about and which one we'd really prefer in real life, but I really think the guy has a point at the end. Of course a Ferrari, a Lambo, an Aston, a Jaguar etc. is cool as well and probably very good cars, but they're kinda the "go-to" for anyone with money, which means they end up being seen as footballers' cars, rich kids' cars etc. which certainly isn't good for their image, and if they're neon green or orange and so on it's even worse. If I ever get the money to *seriously* consider this type of car, I'd certainly have to try several of them before settling on anything but going in as a "newbie" the Maserati would definitely be one of the favorites. That might change after trying them all I suppose but for I'll just keep dreaming of this one. :p

I think this video was brilliantly made. I also think and know that the maserati mc is the most versatile car on the road today. Let me explain looks alone the sexiest car on the planet hands down. Engine one of the best v8 engines ever made. Exhaust note there is nothing out there that sounds as good. Only car I owned where my wife told me to shut the radio off. Comfort very comfortable car that can actually fit 4 adults aston not, porsche 911 not, even bentley Gt not, and the best part of this is that the car cost 150,000 less then an aston 65,000 less then a bentley and 150,000 less then a 458 which I also owned. So what I'm saying is I'd take the maserati any day over its competition for every reason I mentioned above and bank 150,000 for a future investment all that and doing it in style!

***** I think it is a bit wrong to compare it to supercars, since the GranTurismo is, as it is stated in its name, a GT-car, but I still find it an interesting subject. I believe that the MC Stradale is a lot of car for the money, because I find it very versitile. It can do a lot of things, you can spank it on the track and then drive it home in (reasonable) comfort and luxury, with a big boot, rear seats etc. It would be a nice allround car but I don't think it can be quite as good as some Ferraris and Lambos when it comes to the driving sensation. But for a daily driver, I would absolutely have it over MOST supercars (I find the R8 and 911 Turbo/Turbo S quite good allround supercars, when it comes to quality and refinement), but I wouldn't mind an updated gearbox, a double-clutch or a fast 8-speed ZF auto.

adnanalagic It's a tricky one because I think it straddles two different segments. On one had it competes with say Bentley Continental GTs and Aston DB9s, but those cars are a lot more expensive and are more 'cruisers', whereas the Stradale is the more aggressive drive. 911 and R8, would certainly be rivals, but even then the Stradale is a different sort of car. You'll either prefer the Teutonic engineering that the 911/R8 offers or you'll be swayed by the character, Italianess and the sprinkling of Ferrari dust of the Maserati. Even then, if you were after a 911/R8 the financially sensible option would be a Cayman GTS in my view. Ferrari FF, similar sort of car maybe? But even then, its in a wildly different price bracket.

Gavin S The question I was giving was if I would choose the MC over a supercar, and I would as a daily driver, but a 911 Turbo/Turbo S and R8 are better ALLROUND supercars. i don't think they are a pig to have as a daily, because I find the Turbo and R8 better everyday supercars than a Ferrari or a Lambo. I trust the Germans a lot more than I would the Italians when it comes to quality and refinement. I can in some aspects actually believe that the MC Stradale doesn't have any rivals. Because it offers so many different types of cars in one car than any other model out there. The MC Stradale is a bit more race-focused than a Bentley Continental GT or a DB9, just like you said. The MC Stradale is a GT-car but not in the same sence as the Bentley and the Aston. But, just like you said, there is a big difference when it comes to price, power and the brand itself.

as a current owner of a 14 mc, previous one was a 13 sport line convertible. this is the last true Maserati, Ferrari engine, looks and sounds amazing. interior tech is super dated, but with slight upgrades it really wakes the interior up. mine has an updated screen and touch screen climate control unit, night and day better and way more pleasant to drive, the sounds are great, buying new id say no way, second hand all day!

A very good review but I don't agree with the comments about the gearbox. I had a 4.7 MC shift GranTurismo and I loved the gearbox, yes it can be a bit clunky at low revs and around town but you quite quickly adapt your driving to smooth it out. The way it slams through the gear changes at full throttle and maximum revs is fantastic and far more exciting than a lot of the more modern systems so I would not have changed it even if I could.

I have the 2012 Granturismo and i love everything about this car. The sounds, style, craftsmanship of the interior, suspension and power. It is a rare breed especially living in Orange County California. Not many of these around is precisely why i got it.

Thank God it has that gearbox. Atleast it saves some of the character with that pause between shifts. I still havent gotten used to the instantaneous revs change in most dual clutch cars. Its cool in the track cars, but somewhat strange in the GT's.

actually you have it the wrong way around. silly little boys with dads money (like all the arabs in London) drive all those show off cars because they have self worth problems and cant find anything more than a dumb blond as a GF. The Maserati on the other hand, is bought by us REAL men that dont need to drive a flash boys car (that sounds like, well MOST of them do, something TRYING to sound like a Maserati, or just plain, my old tractor with the wrong fuel in it) and we have intelligent, sophisticated beautiful women at our sie who can actually hold a decent conversation and don't have to hang it all out there for the boys to pick them up. Our women are sexy and attractive and appealing because, like the Maserati is a REAL mans car, they are REAL women who wont look twice at the boys driving pointless cars such as M5 (God forbid! the Indian kid with garlic breath and cap and jacket matching, you know, like school boys ) 350GT (Seriously!?? The least Maserati can do for us enthusiasts is leave the 4.7 litre naturally aspirated V8 in one of their cars. Add cylinder shut down, add stop-start, add a hybrid electric system but leave the engine alone. If the environmentalists want to complain, I invite them to invest in a Maserati Ghibli.

+Sam Dornan Agreed. Kinda like Ferrari intend to do with their NA V12. BUT, Maserati has already made the change with the new 3.8 V8 bi-turbo that powers the Quattroporte GTS. In the Quattroporte it sound okay, but nowhere as good as the 'old NA V8s. Hopefully it will sound better in the upcoming 'MC' version of the Ghibli and the Granturismo replacement. And of course the hot Alfieri.

Granturismo S/MC Stradale and C63 AMG M156 have the best v8 exhaust notes hands down. Of course there is the GM V8's and Fords that sound good too, but its different "good" :)

I love Maseratis the same reason I love Astons. Neither are 'top-shelf' supercars that play the performance numbers game as Porsche or Ferrari, but both the Gran Turismo and Vanquish both have a ridiculous amount of power for daily use and exhilarate the senses every time you turn the key or prod the throttle. Each are also stunning cars to look at & will garner attention as much as any 911 or R8 in a parking lot. While not as sharp as a GT-R or Corvette, a skilled driver can still give any performance machine a good tussle on a track-day run or even an auto-x event.

Actually the engine in this car produces almost similar Torque as the 4.5L V8 in the standard 458 & 5.2L V10 Huracan.. No wonder Maserati detuned or in other words did not want.

So true... my neighborhood is swamped with Mercedes's, Audi's, BMW's, Porches, Lexus's, at least three Ferrari's.... but only one Maserati. Maserati is unique. If I upgrade this spring it is definitely one of the cars I would consider. My only dilemma would be, Granturismo MC or Quattroporte GTS!?

Maserati GranTurismo remains one of the BEST looking and sounding cars currently available at any price range even after all these years. Its direct competition is the Jaguar XK, MB SL550/63AMG, Aston Martin DB9. Its a GT car and not a competitor for the true sport and supercars from Ferrari, Lambo, or Porsche.

I wouldn't say it's unique at all, have a look at Switzerland, yes, you see Lamborghini's and Ferrari's but the Maserati GT is absolutely everywhere, sometimes makes me think it comes with the BigMac menu at McDonald's...

i really really like the granturismo, is very good looking ( not the mc verion which looks too agressive and racey whith all thoose carbon bits added) and also very cool but it start to show it's age and i'm not sure that the cool factor will hold. From a technical standpoint the granturismo is a dinosaur, a much cheaper corvette zo6 can destroy it, not even to mention ferrari, lambo, or porsche which are way ahead. the maserati brand need to renew the granturismo because the evolution continues and dinosaurs extinct

Early models are starting to show just a bit of age, but they still look great. The 2013 facelift models look really nice. But I agree Maserati should revamp it with a totally new model sometime soon.

jordanclarkson2010 so if in 2015 someone want to buy a high end sportcar he can choose between the maserati alfieri, mercedes amg gt, jag f type and porsche 911. My god what a great selection if 2014 was the year of hypercars (p1, 918, and laferrari), 2015 will be the year of sportcars. oh yeah I forget the bmw I8
