So I bought a 2009 gran turismo last year. Put about 4K miles on it. Has been a great experience. I think you have to have the right attitude about “maintaining it” and what you will be willing to fix and what you can ignore/live with- but if you can do that you are rewarded with an absolutely incredible car experience for less than the price of a base 4 cylinder mustang. Yes- it really does put a huge smile on your face everytime you grab the keys for any reason, and at least a grin everytime you walk by it in the garage. Thats worth a lot.

@@samn1217so when you are coming to a stop you can just pull both the paddles (on the F1) to drop it into neutral and coast to a stop. But you never do this. Ever. The only issues I have had in over 2 years of owning my 2012 Maserati GranTurismo S with the even better 4.7L engine is the air conditioning and rough running and warning lights on the dash. The A/C compressor went out and was sorted for about $1,100 with an independent A/C shop that does work on high end cars and the other issue was fixed with the installation of a new $300 battery. The TPMS light is always on but the previous owner fixed it and it still broke. It can’t recalibrate and so the light stays on even though the system gives accurate pressure readings. The original GT was succeeded by the GTS. From around 2013 onwards, there was then the face lifted version also (GT Sport), and these generally don't have the variator issues that the older 4.2 version had. Then there was a third face lift model with updated infotainment, reversing camera etc. There were other cosmetic packages you could get (MC Sportline) on these, and of course there was the hardcore MC Stradale (the only one really that hasn't suffered the extreme depreciation the others have - although, still depreciated). I own the GT Sport version with the 4.7L and the facelift. It's fantastic. My God it's slow - it handles like a bus, I get smoked by almost any other even slightly 'sporty' car, and well, you can guess the maintenance costs I'm sure. But these older cars are future classics. They may never (and probably won't ever) appreciate in financial value - but the aesthetic value (both visual and sonic) is the epitome of beauty. Whilst the rear end does look dated, the front end, with the long bonnet covering the V8 which is placed just behind the front axel looks stunning. And the sound - well - the truth is that that is the be all and end all of this car - I can't think of another V8 that comes close (sorry Jaguar f-type fans!) I think I'd only be disappointed if a v10 LFA pulled up alongside - and, well, the likelihood of that happening is near-on zero! When you drive somewhere in this car, every time, without fail, its an experience. You'll hold your breath a touch, waiting for the next maintenance light, but once you've mentally hurdled that, this touring car is a dream to drive. It's a Maserati! It's history says it all. Fantastic video guys!

I am also a fellow 2015 GT Sport owner, it ironically rides much softer than my wife's GLA45 which is much more quicker, nimbler handling, more spacious, better infotainment (whoever made the decision to puts Peugeot center console along rubbery soft plastic which eventually turn gooey and sticky into this car deserves no cookies) better ground clearance, easier on maintenance and easier on insurance than this. The only thing my wife's AMG doesn't do better is the distinctive v8 sound. And the sleek look....

Thank you guys for this inspiring test. I‘m owning the old GranTurismo but the latest iteration from 2018. With the 4.7 Litre V8 with 460BHP and the much quicker ZF 6 Speed Gearbox (it hits you in the Neck in Sportmode above 5000 RPM), with the much quicker Steering, with Skyhook Dampers (soft or stiff), with the Sportseats, Rearview Camera and, last but not least, the Touchscreen Nav with Apple Carplay. This Car, for what as it was new, i’ve payed "just" 120.000 €, is the much better Competitor to the new one. And with that in Mind, the new GT for just double the Price, i can not go with the newer. Never Mind, what the 0-60 time of the new GT is. It simply doesn‘t matter, if you hear the V8 screaming. I‘ve driven it for 150.000km and never had a big issue. Just small ones like a Parkingsensor not working.

Probably could have been fairer to the old car, much more expensive crap old ferraris are just the same and testing the cheapest you could find it will obviously have issues. My Cayman had sticky buttons, the gearbox exploded and ims is a worry. Also nobody ever mentions that the maserati will easily fit 4 adults or 2 kids in car seats. Still nice to see a comparison. I had an opportunity to sit in a Maserati a few years back. The thing that struck me most was how ordinary the interior was. I recently purchased a 09 Quattroporte S with the 4.7L engine. The Quattroporte and granturismo share the same underpinnings and power plant during this generation. The one I purchased has an unbelievable 5000 miles for $30k. That is insane a Ferrari powered sedan with an original sticker of 150k for that price. Hell a base Camry starts at $26k. I have been researching these cars for the last few months. I have been checking on owner reviews and the overwhelming majority say they have been reliable and have enjoyed their experience. I also own an e39 M5 and I have put a lot of money into it since I originally purchased it in 2013. So I do know about rod bearings, timing chain guides and valve cover gaskets. You just don’t hear about major issues with the QP power plant. Yes you should be able to do your own oil changes and wrenching from time to time. They will all cost money to run. As they say you have three choices to pick from fast, cheap, or reliable and you can only have two. I much prefer the QP exhaust to my m5 with a muffler delete this engine sounds like nothing else and the video doesn’t do it justice. In person it’s stupendous. I think this is one of the most under appreciated cars out there. If they just put a prancing horse on it they would be 80k all day. Yes the duo select car is crap and should be avoided at all cost but the updated car with the zf is generally reliable. I think because it’s not a manual gearbox car it gets overlooked right now but when enthusiasts start to mis the roar of an Italian V8 they will give this another look.

When I was a teenager, wandering through auto shows, Maserati stood out to me as just worlds above everything else in the interior. They were covered in beautiful leather with fancy stitching that nothing else could hold a candle to. They were sister cars to Ferraris but with all the focus put on luxury. Here we are, a few decades later, and I still think of those cars when I sit in a Porsche or other car that's gone the extra mile with the interior and am thankful that, in my mind's world at least, Maserati set the stage for what we should expect there and the rest of the automotive world finally caught up. I look around and thing "Oh man... this is Maserati levels of beautiful!" Of course, they're no longer sisters to Ferraris... and their interiors aren't a big step ahead of everyone else... so I don't really know what draws people to them anymore... but they'll always have a special place in my heart for what they used to be.
