For those watching this video, the MC20 is supposed to be optioned with Bridgestone Potenza Race tires. The Potenza Sport is not even suitable for an autocross, hence why the car has such terrible balance. I would be curious if this car had the track suspension optioned as well.

Actually I think this is not a bad laptime. GT4 RS did 7:16 on super agressive Cup 2 R, with track geo etc. Considering the MC20 only has Potenza Sport and it's definitely not made for the track, the laptime is quite OK. Another important fact to note: this car only has 572hp instead of claimed 630hp (due to Sport auto dyno). Moreover, in evo magazine they weighed the car during Car of the year contest and the weight was 1700kg with full tank (without driver), which seems absolutely nuts to me (Maserati claims 1470kg). With real 630hp and sub-1500kg weight, it would have been ballistic.

Compare it better with a 991.2 GTS that does 7:23 and costs probably half, has 450 ps and about 1500 kg, not the GT4 RS or 992 GT3. Then the Maserati`s laptime does`t look so good, in my opinion. It`s a nice car if you want to be a bit different but that`s it.

This car is obviously really capable, the chassis looks really balanced but it's very softly sprung and those tires were never going to cope with this type of demand. The sound is also not good and the engine seems like it's lacking a bit, a downpipe with a remap will solve that. A track version of this car with Cup 2 or C2R tires would be epic

better tires I agree. Definitely not softly sprung though, especially in Corsa mode. All the bumps were coming into that cabin. Tires and maybe a little more downforce with a rear GT3 style wing.

Der MC12 war mit 1602 kg mit vollem Tank nicht nur leichter als der MC20, sondern hatte sicher auch seine Nennleistung. Der MC12 erreichte nämlich einen Topspeed von 298 km/h auf der Döttinger Höhe vor der Antoniusbuche. Wir haben die Fahrt von Marc Basseng damals in sport auto 12/2008 begleitet. Der MC20 kam jetzt nur auf einen Topspeed von 288 km/h.

@@SportautoDe I thought all the cars in that EVO magazine group test (I wasn't aware sport auto also covered it) were weighed including driver and 45 kg of fuel. All the numbers line up pretty well if you count with Marc Basseng being 85 kg. What's interesting, is that the MC12 was 106 kg heavier than Enzo (factory dry claim difference is only 80 kg), but still posted 1s faster lap time. Empty MC12 with full tank would be about 1530 kg, 115 kg less than MC20.

Looking at an old sportauto test on a 991.2 gt3, dyno test showed they added nearly 124ps to the road figure to get crank figure, but with the mc20, only 55ps added. If they used similar figure, mc20 would be little over 630ps.....can't tell me 991 loses much more power from engine to wheels than the mc20.....makes no sense

I was curious about that one on the Nurburgring! As most Italians, they’re not “accurate” about the power and weight. But considering that and the fact the car wasn’t developed on the Nordschleife, it was a respectable lap time! On the other hand it looks gorgeous and I would love to have the Cielo version. Adding a better exhaust and a stg 2 remap, I would be done! 😎🤗

Regarding missing HP, looking at the measurement protocol the ambient air pressure was verylow at 919,5 hPa which is 70,5 hPa less or 7,67 % than 990hPa EWG norm outside air pressure. The dyno measurements are uncorrected, it says „ohne Korrektur“. Sadly it also quotes „Normleistung“ which is normalized or corrected power, but no correction was applied. So it is actually a bit misleading. Most modern turbo engines cannot compensate a low ambient pressure, as they will run into turbocharger speed protection. So you should roughly add 7,67% to the measured power and get 616 HP which is although less then claimed, is in tolerance whith the dyno. So i do not see a Maserati fault here. Sagt bescheid, ob ich es noch auf Deutsch schreiben sollte.

Thank you for your constructive criticism. Indeed, I also criticized MAHA for using the term "Normleistung" (standard performance) without correction. MAHA's rationale was that since the vehicle itself makes corrections, we are actually talking about standard performance. Therefore, the term "without correction" is somewhat misleading. It would be sensible to introduce another term. I am confident that MAHA will make adjustments in this regard. Regarding your comment on the target boost pressure control: Maserati has confirmed that the vehicle makes its own corrections. However, these are not sufficient to completely compensate for the 730 meters of altitude or 919 hPa. Therefore, we have a significant corrected portion. The uncorrected portion is minimal and not clearly definable. Our priority was to represent representative values rather than conducting unclear recalculations.

I think this car has more potential than shown. The tires aren’t good. And the engine definitely doesn’t sound like it was modified. I think if the mechanics actually took the time needed, it can perform better. Autotopnl had a better sounding mc20 than what was driven on the Nurburgring track.

Not Sport Auto puts the tires on a car, it's the manufacturer. And rules for the Supertest are, that only tires are allowed that are also supplied for customer cars.

Respectable lap time despite of not being a track car. Possibly suspension systems not setup correctly for the track conditions and oh yes the tires. Give them a little bit make over with correct ECU tunes, better suspension geometry and tires. Its gonna be comparable with Porsche 911 GT3

It’s 2 seconds slower than a 2.2 Tonne GT63s AMG that also did its lap on a somewhat damp circuit. That’s actually terrible. Not surprised though 245mm front tyres is just begging for understeer and lo and behold it has it in abundance.

Tune or no tune, light magnesium forged monobloc wheels, stickier tires, lighter Capristo particulate filter delete, lighter straight pipe Capristo rear exhaust, and water meth injection to capitalize on the stock high turbo boost values, relatively high engine compression, direct and port fuel injection, two spark plugs and two combustion chambers for pre-combustion high energy piston momemtum events at higher rpms up to the 8000 RPM is how I would spec it, but I still would hand over the keys to this same driver so he could shave off .26 seconds.

I read the Carrera GT improved 20 sec. on the Nordschleife lap time a few years ago with modern tires. But the 812 Superfast is a good reference. But a Ferrar 488 GTB would be a better one!😉

Dafür hat er 40NM mehr und auf so einem Prüfstand sind schnell mal paar PS verloren. Ich denke die Reifen die drauf sind ab werk sind keine Race Reifen wie zb Michelin cup 2R wie die meisten Rekordhalter sind auch nicht die sportlichsten von Bridgestone

So it's heavier than Ferrari's V6 competitor despite not carrying hybrid tech, this example was down on power, and Maserati didn't even provide sport auto with stickier tire option (Potenza Race). I'd say if the goal was to get an unfavorable review, Maserati couldn't have done a better job, lol.

Well they’re not really designed to compete with each other. The 296 may be Ferraris entry level supercar, but it’s not actually an entry level supercar. The MC20 is on the other hand an entry level supercar.

Horrible understeer throughout and very bad performance in high speed corners. Extremely poor performance considering the mid-engine layout and power to weight. Much slower than an 2017 AMG GT-R, 2016 Corvette Z06, and even a freaking 2018 Camaro ZL1 1LE. This thing is slower than a lot of sports cars from 6-7 years ago. Absolutely pitiful.

The handling is bad and doesn't seem to inspire confidence. Like in those tight corners the car was just struggling to be planted and is all over the place. I believe the Acura NSX type-S handles better than this in nurburgring, while being a hybrid. Also some rich businessman bought this MC20 in india and he complained that the car is not safe to drive and filed a case against stellantis. At first I didn't believe that but after watching this video there definitely seems to be some truth behind it. This and the huracan STO both are not fit for nurburgring. This car is best for winding roads at low speed and some highway acceleration or to buy some ice cream with your gf/wife.
