I own a 4C and have had the honor of driving the MC20. The similarities are far larger than just sharing a chassis. The MC20 felt like a Guilia QV and a 4C had a baby. Which Maserati won’t admit, but that is exactly what the MC20 is. 4C chassis, QV engine and transmission, mix of 4C ergonomics with Guilia switch gear and some Maserati badges. The MC20 is what Alfa Romeo should have badged the 6C. Maybe they’ll launch it before going fully EV, we will have to see. 😊

@maseratiupgrades4363 Жыл бұрын
I have been blessed with one. So far, put 2000 miles on it and still want to drive it to discover more and understand it better. If I don't try to understand it, extreme performance is intuitive/natural and scary. But when I want to learn it it to control it, then (most times) I find myself behind the eight ball unless I concentrate intensely on the revs during shifting. But that is difficult at first to do (still learning) as torque and power develop exponentially when in the active secondary ignition chamber zone at higher 3500+ rpms. The unpredictability of it all is compounded by the fact that, in this zone, the power train suddenly becomes uncannily calm and smooth compared to the rest of the engine's 'grainy' nature ( compliments of no counter-balance shafts). This 'eye of the storm' phase betrays a corresponding spike in speed which can only clearly be confirmed by eyes glued to the speedometer: a sensation that is unpredictable by adopting either a naturally aspirated or modern turbo or hybrid predictive model (rev-reach power threshold shift-repeat) or an old school turbo predictive model (rev-nobody home-sudden burst). With the MC20, the sensation can be explained by brief pause-sudden shove-exponentially growing shove only detectable by sudden suspension adaptation sounds and jitters when the road is not smoothe enough. Mostly refined though rough around some edges, the car has an unusually high feel of solidity (feels like a tank), glides down the road when driven casually, tends to 'get a move on' and then surprises with more; and is, to me, stunningly beautiful and well proportioned. I truly believe, that if this car proves to be reliable enough in the long term, it's pleasing uniqueness will make history as one of the few Maserati brilliant stars.

I'm confused by the mode selector 02:48 for two reasons. 1. There seems to be scale markings on the blue outer ring and the silver inner ring, but where's the position indicator? 2. There seems to be an intermediate setting between GT and Sport. So given the Jekyll and Hyde comment is that a happy medium or not? Or would that spoil the editorial 'take' of this piece. I don't think it will sell in great numbers or form the base of a series of Maseratis in the next 5-7years, but it is a good and innovative effort from a small car-maker, and a fabled one with bags of history at that. I believe that type of pre-combustion chamber is now being used in F1. Apparently gives a better and more even burn. But it's perhaps one reason why F1 engines have been difficult for the engineers to get right with the MGU-K and MGU-H. Sadly, MGU-H (the turbo end) is being dropped and that was the most interesting part we the public knew about those engines. The car looked to be bouncing quite a bit, but then, the road also looked extremely bumpy too. Worth it for those views though. As for the car, it's a strange one with the basic interior and simple lines. If it were half the price it would be awesome, but at the price they're asking? I'm not convinced it's quite special enough.

You must really appreciate the overall design restraint. Not all buyers are looking for something with an appearance that creates havoc on the streets. This seems like - even at that price - you could drive it all day, anywhere. And over time will become more endearing. If I had the bank account, this would make a fabulous daily.
