The weird thing is, Eggman was originally meant to be the hero, but he's embraced being a villain. Even when given the chance to do good, he simply prefers evil. Whether innocuously like in Sonic Boom, or drastically, like in the comics, Eggman is just plain bad.

I heard an interesting theory about that. Because gorillas have a lifespan of about 40 years, it's a one generation difference (father/son) between Jumpman and Mario, and a two generation difference (grandfather/grandson) between Cranky and Donkey. So there's probably a retired carpenter in New Donk City.

Ahem...... 1.) Grimmsnarl from Pokemon - Since DK need to know how a huge goblin defeated a Machamp in one blow. 2.) Brachydios from Monster Hunter - Cause there's a reference to Punch Out! somewhere. 3.) Disfigurine from Dragon Quest - In case of a Halloween emergency. 4.) Eve from Stellar Blade - To ensure they're some explaination about her battle against the Naytibas. 5.) Tinkaton from Pokemon - To make sure she needs to calmed down when that pink dwarf is near at ally Corviknights. 6.) Pukei-Pukei from Monster Hunter - Since it's a jungle combo. 7.) Siren from Witcher - Her voice can compete with Pauline. 8.) Gobfin from Palworld - In case of a Shark Week emergency. 9.) Bastemon from Digimon - Because hairy friends do stick together. And last, but certainly not least......... Rajang from Monster Hunter - For obvious reasons.

To be fair, it would be much harder for eggman to do the whole "go good" thing because DK was allowed to step down as antagonist because we got THE antagonist in the form of Bowser. But Eggman is still THE antagonist of the Sonic universe so the dynamic wouldn't work because... well who would be the next primary antagonist?
