I’m an ex worker and it all depends on the location. We never let fillet patties sit in warmer too long. The warmer keeps it hot once we take it out the grease. But if nobody is buying them, they just sit there and cook and get hard. So we always kept about 4 patties in the warmer instead of like 10+ patties to keep a low amount of waste if nobody was buying them. All of the crew wore headsets so we can all hear orders in drive thru, so as soon as a customer ordered a fillet, grilled chicken, nuggets etc... we would drop them fresh so it would be fresh out the grease when the customer received the food. Don’t try to make it seem like it’s every McDonald’s because it’s not. We also cleaned our bun steamer constantly. If nobody else knows trust me I do. My general manager was a clean freak and stayed making us clean EVERYTHING. Ok I’m done proving you wrong lol

Agreed. The Burger King by my house is disgusting. I then tried a Burger King out in the rich suburban area and it was absolutely delicious. It all depends on the employees, some are lazy fucks and don't care about the food they put out.
@spellingchamp016 жыл бұрын
111justinjames yes! In a big city, they are probably just SO lazy. Now I am not saying they are all lazy. Some can actually work really hard because their McDonalds could be packed. If you live in a small town like me, they are probably the only McDonalds there and they can also be packed, making them care and work hard.

Usually I get this chance coming home from the hospital at 3 AM...and guess who's the only place that's open? 😅 Since my immune system is crap it could really mess me up if the hygiene it food was off. Never gotten sick there. THANK YOU! ❤

Can I get the address of that location? That's amazing to hear that they would be that diligent about keeping things fresh and clean(sad I know) more often than not at the McDs in my area, and the two that I worked at, they really do sit for quite a while, same about the tarter sauce sitting around and the steamer never was cleaned and if it was it was never very well. Also more often than not if you ask for yours to be made fresh it just makes the employees get shitty at you for having to do extra work so you end up with sub par food anyways. I would love to find a store that's as you described *Edit* Also they really never can get the cheese on the sandwich

@JVasquez1066 жыл бұрын
Battle Brother They meant that once they fry a batch of like 6 and only use two, the other 4 will sit in the warmers for another hour before being used for an order again.
@kermitthehermit54766 жыл бұрын
Well you're meant to remove them once the expire timer runs out on the UHC. But I know lots of people redo the timer when it runs out. The UHC keeps the Filet at a certain temperature so they don't go cold. I can definitely see the filets going off if you go to a Mcdonalds that is mostly quiet. Usually where I work Filets require a new batch every 20-30 minutes.

nonononononono. They don't fry the patties to order at mcdonalds, its not that they are frozen thats a concern, its the fact that new fillet o fish patties are fried up only when they have none that are currently fried up, its a system that works great with products that they shift instantly, like nuggets, chicken burgers and normal burgers, but a filet o fish, will be fried up, then sit on a heated rack for hours. When I worked as a grillfry at mcdonalds I would go entire shifts of never frying up filet o fish because we never sold them.

I work at McDonald's, something all should know: The eggs we make from scratch but other than that All the food comes frozen, all we do is heat it. I have no idea how the food is created but I know how it's prepared. Coffee is freshly brewed. Tea they make and refill often. Orange juice is made by machines. Cookies are baked and stored in bags or front counter. I don't recommend the fries, those things are a mystery to me. They come frozen we throw them in the oil for a few minutes, then we toss them down to salt them. They will look fresh still after months and they are very fatty. The burgers are heated in an oven so are the chicken, (I don't know what the breading is made out of). Salads are pretty good. Breakfast menu: the sasuage pattys come frozen and are heated, bacon is heated, o are the biscuits and pancakes. Oatmeal is instant (don't know if the oats are nutritional as regular ones). Not many healthy breakfast choices (personally wish the sold chicken biscuits). Desert: All Mcafes are made by machine, (ice creame)... pies are frozen and are heated... some MCdonalds are open 24 hours, we lose food as fast as we prepare it so it's always fresh and coming... we get food safety inspections. Personally, I really wish I knew how the factories actually make the food, all we do is prepare it.

Never had a problem. It's not individual products you should be concerned about, it's individual stores. Spend a little time inside before your first drive thru order. Same applies for any chain. Also, any "restaurant row" is only as good as the local health inspector, and, some aren't so good.
@ashbridgeindustries3806 жыл бұрын
Exactly. The McDonald's I worked at was very strict about making more food than necessary. And if food really has been in the cabinet for so long that it's no longer 'fresh', it gets thrown out, not served up.
@ashbridgeindustries3806 жыл бұрын
Lance Baker Well, since most are owned by franchisees who have little restriction over how they run the place, there are actually very big differences between stores.
@jasonlisonbee6 жыл бұрын
Lance Baker, I challenge you to take a long road trip and stop by every McDonald's along the way, or at least stock up there every time you top up your tank. There are differences. Even if all you eat is from the same chain, if you drive long distances a lot, you will have preferences to go to some locations and skip others. Make sure to give your favorites a good rating on google maps so they'll stay in business longer. Maybe they'll even expand and buy out the crappy locations.

Because most of the stuffs in Mcdonald's are already processed or pre-made. A good example is the vegetables. I used to worked at Wendy near my high school and you know at Wendy's they give you fresh cabbages and tomatoes? You know who cut the vegetables? Kids that barely had proper training. They don't practice good hygiene when doing vegetables, cutting the veges is easy so the manager will put this job to new, highschool workers. When it busy, people pay less attentions to this spot and trust me these kids do nasty things. I known it because I myself also did nasty things. While shredded cabbages at Mcdonald doesn't taste good, it is a lot safer than the veges from Wendy, or at least the two Wendy's I went to. However, most of the time a proper, trained adult do the veges. Just try to avoid ordering a salad when it busy and you might be good.

Well, most of it is true in some way. The Filet o Fish(FoF) has a separate deepfryer. And at the end of every day, every fryer is cheched to see if the oil is still useable. Truth is tho, rarely people order a FoF so the oil isn't often used, therefore it is not often replaced, but all still useable oil is filtred every night. In our restaurant, FoF'es were almost always made to order. Only when it was a busy day, we would keep 1 warm, and according to rules you can keep fried chicken and fish for 20 minutes. After that you have to throw it away. But this would go for everything, most stuff is usually thrown away after maybe one hour. And if we had a FoF order, we knew that it was "old" and when it could wait, we would fry a new one, an throw the old one away. As for the steamer, no it's not often cleaned, maybe once a day with a moist cloth. But it doesn't get dirty either. You can also tell if your FoF is fresh or not, same goes for chicken nuggets/patties. If the crust is crispy, then it's fine. Otherwise just go back and ask for a new one. And as for the sauce. The dispensers are stored in the fridge between opening and closing hours and have a shelf life of 2 days if I can remember correctly. It would probably be used longer, but I don't really see any harm in it. I don't know about 24/7 stores tho. And keep in mind that at every McDonalds work different people and those might follow the rules strictly, or don't. The restaurant I worked for only reset "freshness" of products so we didn't have to make new ones. But after a certain amount of time you had to. We kinda went by this rule: If you would eat what you made, you could sell it. So long story short, it is nowhere as bad as this video wants you to believe it is!

As an ex Starbucks partner mine would be Frappucinos. Any of them, the "coffee" in it is a powder that costs Starbucks 88 cents to make. And what keeps the ice from clumping is a syrup known as "base" that has ass loads of sugar. Just remember every time you get one It's 5% milk, 10% ice, 80% "artificial flavors" that Starbucks also doesn't seem to have to give any info on...

If they catch their own fish they can't be too bright with all of the Mercury and other carcinogens in the waters. And if someone buys farm raised fish they use animal waste in the foods they give to the little growing fishes. They use to include that animal waste in the dry pet foods until the government clamped down. How is your pet animal going to tell you that the food you feed it sucks and that they would be happier to receive table scraps.
@hitechburg7 жыл бұрын
What do you eat?! Do you have a supply of food that is 100% free of any toxins or genetic engineering?! It would good of you to share the source of this great food so that we can all eat healthy.
@sireugenecourtney57977 жыл бұрын
We both know that would be almost an impossible task. The person who grows their own food through indoor hydroponics still has to rely on unnatural nutrients to make it grow. The few independent farmers left can't even have fields of naturally growing normal seeds because of the winds blowing the genetically modified suicide seeds from their neighboring large corporate farms. Regular folk with limited budgets can't afford the organic stuff from the supermarket , even presupposing it was really free of harm and not some crooked farm using the organic label to raise the prices of their crops. One can only limit the harm and that doesn't mean eating fish or other foods with known toxins. Does anyone believe the municipalities purify the water of all carcinogen's coming from the open cesspool of a river the water is carried on? Natural spring water free of contaminates is a necessity in regards to preparing foods for personal consumption. Even the ice cubes have to be spring water. People in my area where the municipal water is toxic, have been found to contract lung cancer just from inhaling the mist while taking a shower.

McDonald’s was my first job when I was 15. I can attest to this. Everything the reddit users said was spot on. Patties of any kind (chicken, fish, beef) are made ahead of time so that when someone orders, you don’t have to wait on them to be cooked. They’re kept warm in warmers that have timers that monitor their freshness. When the timer goes off, you’re supposed to throw out the food because it’s no longer considered fresh. Luckily, most food gets used before the timer runs out, but not usually for the fish. The filet o fish rarely gets ordered, so many employees will simply reset the timers over and over and over- sometimes for hours. Either because they’re too lazy to make more and record it on the waste sheets, or because the managers don’t want product to be wasted.
@SaxPanther6 жыл бұрын
filet of fish is pretty much the only thing i eat at mcdonalds on the rare occasion i eat there... i really don't care if it sits out for hours, hell, i've eaten stuff that was sitting out in my house for days. like, i have an immune system, never got food poisoning or anything before. as long as its fine taste and texture wise what's the big deal? which it is, never got a bad one yet. im paying for FAST food not FRESH food... if i wanted something high quality i certainly wouldn't be going to mcdonalds.
@giveuthebone6 жыл бұрын
I am a shift manager at a McDonald's in New Zealand, and i whip all of my crews' asses if they reset timers (let the food sit in the heated cabinet). It is super frowned upon where I'm from. If we do have to reset timers, I make sure I try one of the patties and throw them out straight away if they aren't up to standard.
@jasonlisonbee6 жыл бұрын
That's a very good reason to stock in the warmer the minimum expected demand for the current freshness period and prepare more on demand when it comes unpredicted. This may be why some locations have waiting parking spots. Just make sure the customer knows how long the wait will be before confirming their order.

Thomas Jefferson along with many other of our founding fathers owned and enslaved many a fish. Jefferson would wake up in the wee hours of the nite, tell his wife Jane he was going to drain the bladder, and then make his way to the family aquarium. He would then doff his habiliments and fraternize with the denizens of the sea. Scientist that study germline and epigenetics report an uncanny similarity between Jefferson's sperm and the tartar sauce that's smeared onto the Filet-o-fish sandwich.

@Colhogan064 жыл бұрын
Quite honestly what you get really depends on the restaurant. My daughter worked at a McDonalds and never had anything bad to say about their fish sandwiches. There were other things she questioned but not anything that would be a health hazard. Like making the fry bin go further than it should. Meaning they would put the Frys in the pack and lay it on the tray with the Frys sticking out trick. If you picked up the pack and put the fries in it completely you would find your lucky to have just over a half container full of fries. It wasn't always done and not everyone did it. It was usually someone who ordered a big order and the fries started running low and they were busy. Rather than just hold the order until a new batch finished some of the workers skimped on the fries. I can live with that because all I have to do is ask them to fill it. But doing something that causes a health risk that's a new ball game all together. Lucky for us her McDonalds was pretty conscious of making sure the fish was cooked when ordered. The tarter sauce never sat out and for the most part they did everything they could locally to ensure it was safe. Now what happened prior to it getting to her McDonalds that was an all together different thing but it was the one thing they couldnt control and so they just ensured their part was done correctly. I had fish from her McDonals regularly and I never once got sick or got a filet o fish that tasted like cardboard. I have gotten a cardboard filet o fish at different McDonalds before. Which is why I always asked for it fresh. I have at times asked when I ordered it to please cook me a fresh one and I would assure them I didnt mind the wait. Another trick I found to ensure I got a fresh one was to order it with a whole piece of cheese on it and let them know I would will pay the extra for the cheese. Its extremely hard to take a precooked sandwich and put a half on it so it looks whole. For anyone who didnt know, McDonalds puts a half piece of cheese on the filet o fish sandwich right down the middle. So if I order a filet o fish with a full piece of cheese like it's done with a cheeseburger they almost have to make sure its fresh because it's very hard to move a melted half piece of cheese on a fish patty. Honestly when I order it with a whole piece of cheese I have always gotten a fresh sandwich I have heard it's not an uncommon request. So there you go, one extra way to get a fresh filet o fish. Just be prepared to pay extra for the cheese.
@MXAI00D7 жыл бұрын
actually where I worked, since it was ordered so rarely we would never cook them unless one was ordered, then we would cook one, so basically you would get a fresh one every time, now the only nasty thing I remember from there was the milkshake machine, so much fungus...
@calamarbronx836 жыл бұрын
Mido Pataki the milk shake machine needs to be cleaned daily. If you don't clean it often then yes it will build up fungus. People dont understand that its not the food...it's the people. The workers and customers fill themselves up with bullshit about McDonalds. If these people say they have worked in McDonalds for so many years, ask them if they went to HU! See what they say. It's Hamburger University. The beef chicken and fish patties are no different then the hotpockets or lean pockets or whatever frozen food you find in the frozen food aisle. Stop bitching and eat differently. If youre not going to eat differently, go to Burger King.

Yeah, that's protocol. Only ever hold what you believe you'll sell in the cabinets. Only ever cook anything extra if you think you'll need the buffer. If that cabinet's sell by timer goes off, throw it away. That's what it's for, to prevent old food. Waste is counted and considered. Past about 11PM my store always cooked EVERYTHING to order. Especially regular hamburger meat, since it only takes ~1min to cook on clam grills and can be cooked while the bread is toasted and prepared. That's actually why they started with the after midnight menu back in like 2013, before you could order breakfast all day anyway. To take off a lot of the items that took long to cook, so everything could be cooked fresh without causing interruptions. It would still take absolute minimum 4 minutes or so including order time, not really 'Fast' food. And that's when the cleaning is supposed to take place. Every shake machine is supposed to be taken down and cleaned every night, as well as deep cleaned by a dedicated worker twice a month. It's all a pain in the butt. But if people just follow the protocol and work fast/hard at it then this stuff doesn't happen. It shouldn't happen. I made sure it didn't happen. But people are lazy, management often doesn't care enough, and things don't go right.

And buns were always fresh. Not saying this to defend fast food, in fact I hate McD food, I never eat that shit, because in all honesty its simply not good for you, fresh or not. What it ultimately comes down to in terms of quality with the food, is the Employees. Some will use an old Fish patty just because they're lazy, some will make it fresh. Personally, i leave the Fish in the cabinet for a few minutes after their timer goes off-- only because i keep them up while the fresh ones cook. So, i can safely assure you my McDonald's' Fish is never bad, if I'm the one making the sandwhich. As i said, it has to do with the Employee. If a Manager let's that shit slide, they deserve to be fired. I serve food the way i would want it served to myself.

Everything at McDonald's has a holding time which the maximum is like 30 minutes. If you're being served old food it's simply because the location you went to is poorly managed. McDonald's was my first job I worked there from when I was 15 to when I was 18. I attribute McDonald's to a lot of my work ethic nowadays with their strict policies. I have no reason to bash on McDonald's other than fast food is garbage.

As someone who has worked at McDonalds for over 2 years now. I can say most of this video is false. The Fish doesn’t sit in cabinets for hours, the timer is 30 minutes then it is wasted. The tartar sauce is wasted during the overnights and replaced in the morning. The fish isn’t microwaved to make it “fresh”, they will remake the fish for you on request. The fish is ordered regularly actually. Probably once or twice every 20 minutes. So most of it gets used up anyways. The oil it is fryed in is drained every day. Usually once or twice. They refill it with new oil to keep sanitary. And the steamer is cleaned regularly. So I don’t know where this veteran employee is getting their information from.

Most ignorant thing about the Filet O Fish is McDonald’s is too cheap to put a whole damn slice of cheese on it!
@pred02126 жыл бұрын
There's actually a reason they only put a half slice of cheese on it, and it's not to save money. When they did consumer research on the Filet O Fish, they found that people preferred a half slice of cheese over a full slice because the full slice of cheese was overpowered the milder flavor of the fish.

As an ex mcdonalds worker in Canada this is pretty spot on, honestly though don't expect fresh food past 8:00Pm since its probably been not busy and everyones too lazy to replace cabnit food, nuggets and chicken patties often stay in there for an hour or even 2 depending on whos working that day (average throw out time is suppose to be 30-45 minutes) if you want something fresh just ask, we certainly don't microwave old food to make it seem fresh, just be ready to wait 5+ minutes or more

I remember that a few dozen cheeseburgers, fish sandwiches, big Macs, etc might get thrown out on a slow day. They keep struck track of how many of what are sold during a certain time period and make no more than they are likely to sell. If they are busier than usual, that's when you have to wait a few minutes for something. And unlike the folks on Reddit, I post under my real name. Lesson end of the day: just cook food yourself
@lindataylor21316 жыл бұрын
um....folks......our ancestors used to eat meats that had been stored in wooden barrels with salt for up to a year. It even had maggots in it. Sure some folks got sick from this, but those that didn't, and we are all descended from those who didn't get sick, ate it and had no problems with it. In our world today we are too picky, too anti this and that. And because of that more people do get sick. They have no immunities built up to fight little infections. Now I don't recommend eating maggoty meat today, but worrying about how long your filet of Fish sat in the warmer, or how long the tartar sauce sat out, is just ridiculous. Just like keeping a bottle of hand sanitizer in your purse and using it all the time is. Killing good bacteria means any bad bacteria goes berserk. And worse of all it becomes antibiotic resistant. The world was made to be like it is. Circumventing nature means that eventually you have to pay the piper.

To be fair, our ancestors had much shorter lifespans. And many of them did die from food poisoning. Food doesn't have to be unhygienic, especially in today's age. Big corps tend to focus on quantity over quality, so that is why a lot of food is served as leftovers.
@lindataylor21316 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but the truth is that we are so overly concerned about bacteria and such that we are doing ourselves more harm by using anti-bacterial this and that, and tossing meat products that have been at room temperature, cooked, for over ten minutes....It's ridiculous. Trust me...were you starving to death...you would eat that fillet sitting under the warmer, and the tartar sauce that had been out for a day, and think not a single thing about it. Homeless folks do it all the time. They get half eaten food out of the garbage, and they don't care who ate on it first. They not only survive, but survive well. But they had to give up a lot of their food phobias. Our ancestors couldn't afford to be phobic about their foods. When was the last time you ate Cow heart? Or Tongue? Once these were premium meats. Most people today can't even think about eating such foods. We have, due to TV, Movies, and advertising, gotten to be phobic about what kinds of foods we eat, how they are prepared, etc. But look here...when I was a kid visiting my great Aunt and Uncle we had really wholesome meals that they produced themselves. Tomatoes, Onions, Corn, beans, asparagus, potatoes, cucumbers, radish, and strawberries. Even the meat we ate they produced themselves. Every year we raised a heifer in the little coral by the house. We called her Tinkerbell. LOL. Every year there was a new one. We would give her all the vegie scraps from the table, pet her, make over her, and in the fall they would send a nice fat sleek cow to the butcher. They got half, and sold the other half. They didn't eat a lot of meat. My Great Aunt lived to be 99 and 3/4 years old, and my Great uncle was 96 when he died.

Linda Taylor Our ancestors also practiced slavery and limited women's rights. By your logic, since these were done in the past, we should have no qualms about it and bring it back. You're whack if you think this is all alright lady.

The funny thing about this video is that some people don’t know the quarter pounder is the only freshly made item at McDonald’s but there are times where there were extra pounders made so there under a heater or spicy nuggets haven’t been getting sold so there under a heater but depending on who the supervisors are under these circumstances they’ll throw the food that has been getting heated for a long time and make new food to replace it. I work at McDonald’s, the closest to fresh food you’ll get is getting cooked food from us that we’ve had in a fridge or a freezer and the only reasons you would get extremely old food that was previously frozen is if the store couldn’t cook that food for a long span of time for some reason (the chances of that happening are slim) or if the store has very, very low traffic because at the store I work at, at least having food that’s been in the freezer or fridge for too long never occurs but when hat occurs several times throughout a week is that we don’t have enough of a product in the freezer and fridge

I worked at McDonald’s for 2 years. I knew right before clicking the video that it was the fish filet being old. Where I worked it was a very rare order so we would only keep a few in the cabinets, however a lot of other workers that didn’t care about their job would fill the cabinets with upwards of 10-11 filets at 11am and sell them ALL DAY!!! Yeah, the same filets that we’re made at 11, people were eating at 6pm! It drove me crazy catching lazy workers doing this! My philosophy was I wouldn’t sell any food unless it met the conditions of giving it to my own family. At all costs, just order fresh!

Number 13: mcdonalds rotten fish patties. The last thing you'd want in your mcdonalds fish patty is someone's rotten sauce. but as it turns out, that might be what you get. A 4channer uploaded a photo anonymously to the site showcasing his expired sauce on an expired fish patty. With the statement: "This is the fish you eat at mcdonalds." Admittedly, he had gloves on. But that's even worse. The post went live at 11:38 PM on July 16, and a mere 20 minutes later, the mcdonalds in question was alerted to the rogue employee. At least, I hope he's rogue. How did it happen? Well, the McD employee hadn't removed the Exif data from the uploaded photo, which suggested the culprit was somewhere in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. This was at 11:47. Three minutes later at 11:50, the mcdonalds branch address was posted with wishes of happy unemployment. 5 minutes later, the news station was contacted by another 4channer. And three minutes later, at 11:58, a link was posted: McD's "Tell us about us" online forum. The sauce photo, otherwise known as exhibit A, was attached. Cleveland Scene Magazine contacted the McD in question the next day. When questioned, the breakfast shift manager said "Oh, I know who that is. He's getting fired." Mystery solved, by 4chan. Now we can all go back to eating our fast food in peace.

This dumb bs, the maximum time a filet can stay in the cabin is 20 minutes. If it sits in the UHC for over an hour it becomes too hard to eat. If you notice that the patty is too old, send a mail to the franchise owner or your local McDo headquarters to complain about the restaurant not following correct procedures. Majority of restaurants that aim to serve low income people sometimes prep their food a week in advance. I'm talking about those mom'n pop restaurants that you might visit from time to time. The filet is also the only patty that is technically not an actual patty. It's over 90% fish. Most patties are 20% meat or fish, full of other binding ingredients and water.

Don't know if it's different in the US but I'm in Britain (ex McDonald's worker) and we never pre-made them. They're only ever made when ordered. And until then, they're kept in the freezer. I think this has changed now, but what I'd really watch out for is the chicken. That was pre-made and it would sit in a container to be kept warm forever. Despite the fact they were only allowed to be there for 20mins or something, then binned for a new batch to be made. I'm sure that's different now and pretty much everything is made to order.

Pizza is one of the safest things you can eat. It goes from 450 degrees straight into a container, without being touched. Fast food salads, sandwiches, burgers, etc., usually go straight into your mouth after being fondled by a minimum wage teen-ager.

Really it just depends on the restaurant you buy from. Some don’t follow their cleaning regulations and some don’t. I know at our store we always make everything fresh and do keep everything clean every night and every morning.
