You mentioned Argentina corned beef which is a Filipino brand but it's not remotely the best corned beef in the Philippines. That distinction goes to Purefoods corned beef. Like other local corned beef brands in the Philippines, the consistency is not as mushy like in Libby's or Hereford. Here the consistency is more meaty like shredded pastrami and has a lot more juice. Purefoods has that and overall better flavor and meatiness. A close second is Delimondo. Argentina is considered of lower quality here, a more affordable, cheaper option.

I'm sitting in Sydney right now, I live here. Never heard of Ox & Palm corned beef. When I was at sea on the ocean liners it was well known that Australian corned beef came way down the list of desirability. Having eaten corned beef for nigh on 80 years I can say that cold is best. Hot only with potatoes, never on its own. Tinned corned beef is not salt junk, the sea term for corned beef, which is basically salt pumped (pickled) or just salted beef, which is better than tinned if one wants hot food. Though both tinned and salt junk are great cold.

I love Corned Beef Hash and eggs and so when I was in Aldi I bought the Brookdale Corned Beef Hash ($1.59/15oz can). I was not prepared for what happened next. I decided to make corned beef hash and eggs for breakfast the next day however, when I opened the can of Brookdale brand I was turned off. It was gray making me think air had gotten into the can. I emptied the whole can onto a plate and it was pink and gray. I took a picture and went to Aldi and showed the manager. He gave me another can to replace the one I opened however, two days later when I opened the can, the same! This was shocking as it is made by Hormel. So, I have been forced to go back to the expensive Mary Kitchen Hash ($2.99/15oz can), made by Hormel.

I'm a Filipino, and considering Argentina as a good corned beef is mind-boggling. It's the worst corned beef I have ever tasted. It's too salty, too watery, and the actual texture of this brand is remotely far from what I would expect from a good corned beef.

In France, most of the time I can only find Hereford brand Corned Beef and it's good. Sometime Exeter one can be found because they make a halal version. I just checked my pantry and I only have an unbranded can of corned beef, simply labeled "corned beef". I bought it from Lidl or a discount store, I can't really remember, but I checked the back and it was made in France by Covi SAS... the parent company of Hereford. But in the end, corned beef is not really popular in France.

Here in the Philippines, "Virginia" brand is most popular -- because customers consider COST and TASTE. If money is no object, "Purefoods" -- which has the Hormel license -- is the best local brand. Purefoods also sells "Chunky Corned Beef", a low-cost but high flavor product. Canned CB is sold by every store -- BUT -- FRESH CB is very difficult to find in the supermarkets. Ox and Palm, Palm, are my top favorites. Both have more beef fat than the other brands, but since I love beef fat, it is no problem for me. I personally would not trade these 2 brands for any other brand/brands...but to each his own.

Hamper brand Australian made corned beef is the best I have ever tasted. It is in a yellow tin for anyone in oz. I have tryed every other brand that is available in Australia and they are all well a let down and made in Brazil.

Hereford is sold at Dollar General and is way cheaper than most brands you displayed. I’m trying it with my cabbage tonight, hope it turns out good

I don't think you can go wrong with Hereford. I just love it !!!

My good fellow you nailed it!! My self has been consuming Libby’s corned beef since about 1937, and today I still By it by the case. I do have one minor comment, the suggestion that Spam doesn’t compare. Spam is Spam corned beef is corned beef. During WW2, Spam was a very welcome item on the table, it all depends on the preparation . I also buy Spam by the case, you either like it or you don’t.

I sometimes buy the Hormel corned beef hash but never tried it with a sunny-side egg before. What is the best way to prepare this together? Do you first fry the corned beef hash in cooking oil in a frying pan and put the egg on top of the corned beef hash in and above the the hash already in the pan? Or do you cook (fry) the hash until it is completely browned and THEN put the egg in the pan on top of the already cooked hash?

Either way! But if you want the egg over easy you'll have to do it separately. Or at least it's much easier that way without breaking the yolk.

PUREFOODS Corned Beef is the Superior Brand! Coming from a country that has a lot of corned beefs. Argentina is actually the cheap, less delicious version.

Definitely Hormel! I love both Corned Beef and corned beef hash. I love slices of Hormel Corned Beef on toast. It is a fantastic sandwich room temperature. However, I prefer hash warmed and sometimes with a little ketchup or Catalina dressing for a slight kick in flavor. I keep an extra key to unwind Corned Beef cans as sometimes in storage at home, I occasionally have lost one. I refrigerate leftover Corned Beef, but occasionally warm it in the microwave to all most room temperature. Libby brand is second best in flavor. Corned Beef is a fast, quick meal with little fuss or mus! ❤

Corned beef even if cooked from corned or salted brisket does have a certain amount of beef fat. If cooking with canned corn beef the main error is adding to much of additional oils when cooking with onions and cabbage. Chilling a can before opening to eat straight out of a can is another tip, as the excess fat can be isolated. Before spam from the US was made available in WW2 the main canned meet supplied to British and Commonwealth troops as combat rations was corned beef. The bully beef and biscuit (Hard tack in thinned biscuit style) was a field ration staple along with what ever was available plus the ubiquitous vitamin C tablets.

Swift brand corn beef from Dollar General Stores, that is made in Brazil, is the closest thing I found to the chunk style corned beef that I grew up with in the 50s and 60s.
@dorothygale58962 жыл бұрын
I've never heard of some of those brands. You buy what's on the grocer's shelves, not a hell of a lot of choice.

I use it to make homemade hash. I can of corned beef , 1/2 an onion and 1 can of spring potatoes. Season to taste.
@trishr.39862 жыл бұрын
I like to use southern style frozen hash potatoes. Melt butter in a skillet (to taste, it's your hash), add diced onions if you like and sauté until the color changes a little. Add your amount of potatoes and let the frost cook off. Add your corned beef in small chunks. I like black pepper in mine too. Once I add the corned beef I kind of fold over to warm, rather than mixing and stirring. If that makes sense. Eggs plated with it are always a nice added touch of protein!

I live in Toronto. You can get most of these corned beef brands in the grocery stores here (you might need find the appropriate ethnically oriented store). Funnily enough, in 50 years I have never seen Libby's corned beef. Hereford and Grace are quite common. Hereford is my favourite from when I was a kid.

Funny that, ‘cause at that time in Canada you could buy Libby’s baked beans and a host of other canned items.
