Great video! I really love Alienware, just don't understand them sometimes. It feels like they are holding themselves back massively, with decisions like the screen or the crap software 😅🙈

Excellent review. Razer opted for “thicker” which should equate to better long term internal temps, performance, and life of components.

Just returned my Razer 16, and ordered the X16 - looking forward to seeing how they compare - i really hated the Mini-LED on the Razer as well as the sharper edges on the inner rim. If you rest your wrists on the edge of the laptop while typing it's so annoying lol. Also X16 is like $1000 cheaper now compared to the Razer 16 with the recent sale.

Great comparison! I love the Razer on paper. I believe it is the best form factor of any gaming laptop. However, I bought two Razers and had to send them both back due to major defects. I even had a Razer mouse fail after a short time of normal use. When I pay over 3k for a laptop, I expect better quality control. I have sworn off Razer until I see better longevity and quality control from the brand as a whole. I know these aren’t things you can cover in a review of a new unit, but I thought I would post as a point of consideration for anyone thinking of purchasing the Razer.

Nice comparison. Its actually a little comforting to see the two displays side by side. I'm not sure if it's any different in person, but I can only see a very slight improvement in the 500 nit display. I ordered the m18 a couple days ago after your review and this was concerning me slightly. But I think I can live with a slightly dimmer screen for the other benefits of the machine, especially since I never take my laptop outdoors
@MashITTech

it is easier to see in person and its not a deal breaker unless you work in really bright envrionments. The m18 I reviewed is actually brighter than the x16 at 360nits and I have not had any problems at the 360 nits and I have been using that laptop loads (as I think this is the Alienware I will be keeping this year)

Absolutely appreciate your thorough insights! Love your reviews! We're currently in the market for a high-performance laptop for our live shows with visual performances. We need it to flawlessly handle multiple videos in Resolume, and it's crucial that it offers a variety of port options, since Thunderbolt to Displayport aren't always compatible with every global video scaling system. While I'm intrigued by the compact design of the Razer Blade 16, I feel the Alienware X16 might better handle the heat challenges, especially during festivals where temperatures can soar to 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit). Would be cool to see you do a video about the best 15/16 inch laptop for VJ's touring around the world. Cheers!

Your X16 is in urgent need of a repaste. At 13:20 the ThrottleStop window shows that at 105W one P-core is at 70°C while another is at 100°C. An abyss of 30ºC between the hottest and the least hot... Probably with element 31 applied correctly it will sustain ~130W in Cinebench!

Alienware laptops are massive in size, and size is what matters on a laptop. When you are buying a laptop you expect to be relatively small and portable but this is not the case with Alienware. Their design is so much outdated with huge bezels and massive screen chin and adding to that the extension at the back for the cooling system you ending with a 17 inch body laptop but with a 15 inch screen. Not sure what happened to Alienware left so much behind on design.

I am a Spanish boy who is looking at comparisons between them because I want to buy one of the two models. I don't know if it's just yours because you have very TOP specifications and therefore more expensive. I found your video and I thank you, through the subtitles I was able to understand you perfectly and you explained everything in a detailed and great way. I would recommend that you also open up to Spanish speaking, since in addition to Spain you have areas like Latin America where there are many countries with which you could gain followers. Thank you very much for your video. Regarding the video, I think I'll end up getting a Razer. It seems more elegant to me, the materials are better, it is quieter and it also ends up winning in the performance comparison. But hey, I'll buy one of the two brands in some offer. Also, it seems to me, (I don't understand about brands and this is more of a business and money issue), but I don't understand how Dell ended up buying such a TOP brand like Alienware. More than anything because at least, in Spain, it is not named as such a prominent brand either. And for example, in what you say, the programs are not as attractive or instructive as they are in Razer. I say this, because it seems to me that with Dell's purchase of the Alienware brand, they have lost more than gained. If it had partnered or bought with another brand, it would surely have been more international. I hope you read me, I will wait for a reply and greetings from Spain, friend!

Man my X16's time spy was much higher than yours? I got 19.3k gpu / 14.5k cpu Unfortunately, I'm having to get my x16 replaced because, this same desktop wallpaper you have the purple alien, burnt into my screen like an old TV. i can now see the alien's head, and all my desktop icons no matter what's happening on the screen. It also flickers like its gaining/losing brightness constantly.

@@MashITTech Don't use overdrive for time spy, set a custom mode with a 30% offset on all 4 fans, and use afterburner to set GPU power to 150% + whatever OC levels you have. Yeah man, mine has been fantastic other than this panel being a piece of junk. They are letting me keep it until the new one arrives, but apparently that won't be until mid may due to a "shortage of the 13900hk"

I had both! M18 with 4090 and Blade 18 with 4080. Decided to keep the Razer model. Didn’t care for the alienwares size and battery brick, plus the lower brightness. At $4k, it’s harder to just look away at something deficient. I didn’t care for the blade 18s keyboard and was annoyed how large the trackpad was but once I got used to typing on the blade it’s fine. That would be my only complaint on it though. Brighter screen ftw. Also, there’s really no reason to get a 4090 in a laptop, you’re paying a premium for not even a real 4090.

Commenting after a year of actual use. Razer Blade 16 The machine itself is good. What you should review more importantly than the panel is the speakers. This is because in the case of IPS panels, the speaker is a more expensive device than the panel. The Razer Blade 16 is only backed by a one-year warranty, which is quite a gamble for such a premium laptop. This is because the Razer Blade 16 is not very durable. And Razer's warranty is one of the worst I've ever experienced from a manufacturer.

I went for alienware cause i personally only use my laptop at home pugged in to a external screen so the screen doesn't really bother me and i keep my screen at like half brightness anyway. And the mechanical keyboard is just too good to pass on. Tbh both would be fine for most people if they can afford them. Great comparison as always! Considering the specs, I would say it’s a draw or basically a tie so that means neither one of them are better nor worse than the other. If you want perfect performance then Blade 16 takes the win but if you want slightly better battery life and better connectivity then Alienware x16 takes the win. If you consider value for the money then Alienware x16 takes the win since it’s £100 lower than the Blade 16 based on the video.

DISSAPOINTED!!! We went from chunky max out performance 200w with desktop performance Alienware and full upgradable to "thin and not very light but still big in size" Alienware that cannot even upgrade the ram and cpu is not even max out compared to lower tier machine that much much cheaper. Uglier, less upgradable, still expensive af, not full performance, mediocre screen, still not portable as other. For the same price? I'll take the razer, sorry Alienware you gonna do better than that. Other brand like Acer, Gigabyte or even HP have all level up their products so I expected more for a self-proclaimed "most premium gaming laptop", I mean the Razer literally have the only screen on the world of laptop that is miniled + can switch between 4k 120hz and fhd 240hz, Msi gt77 have the only 4k 144hz miniled screen and Alienware with their mediocre screen still claimed to be the most premium? LMAO.

One thing that I will never be a fan of, specially in a gaming laptop is soldered RAM. WTF? Why? If I'm able to add up to 64GB maybe 128GB, why wouldn't I. When working with matrixes and engineering pieces of software that work with maths simulations and maths modelling it goes a long way having more (much more) memory. Thank you for the video.
@andyH_England
@andyH_England Жыл бұрын
Although I agree that soldered RAM in expensive machines like these is annoying, I understand Dell here. As the name suggests, Alienware is focused on gamers, and 32GB is enough. Dell has other laptops that would be better for engineering. As Dell sees it, the advantages of soldered RAM are; cheaper, as modular RAM needs extra workers to fix, which opens up reliability due to human error. Also, space and better latency. The future is definitely fixed RAM, but hopefully, a modular SoC RAM solution may arrive with time.
@nsfa19
@nsfa19 Жыл бұрын
@@andyH_England Thank you so much for your - very well written - response. I'm all in favour of repairability and RAM modules can become faulty over the years as I have seen this myself quite a few times. In terms of latency, even in AAA games customers may not see a huge increase in FPS when they choose RAM modules with smaller latencies. As I see it, it all comes down to the customer being the real owner of that what they paid so hardly for and having the right to fix it or upgrade it themselves without having to go a - so called - specialised authorised maintenance shop, which could be considered a scam in my opinion. As I said, at the end of the day, if I've bought and paid for something it must be mine to do whatever I want to do with it, with no strings attached whatsoever.
