THIS is why I follow you - I've never heard Dan nor Dylan at ON1 mention the hold trick for adding an adjustment directly to an AI-selected region! Small shortcut, but handy!

Masking is the most important thing I do. I like This as it’s the easiest way to make things pop or add, reduce light or color.

Agreed! Selective adjustments is how to make a good photo great.

I've got to learn a whole new workflow. When I do, this will be great.
@ScottDavenport2 жыл бұрын
Or, use the workflow you have, and augment with Mask AI after applying filters. The end result is the same, and you don't (necessarily) need to retrain yourself.

Great Video. Downloaded the trial of 2023. Using Neo currently and On1 seems much more stable, refined and has the finer details of editing that Neo does not. What’s your honest opinion? There must be one you prefer over the other?
@ScottDavenport Жыл бұрын
I use both, depends on the work I do. I use Effects more than I use Neo in my editing.

What about in your example if for whatever reason you want to mature a the lose hair in the mask. How do you go back to add them to the mask?
@ScottDavenport2 жыл бұрын
Once Mask AI is done, you can use any of the masking tools to further refine the mask. Mask AI gets you a mask quickly... after that, it's "just a mask".
@drip3084 Жыл бұрын
I just want to take out the background and add my own background later... How do you. do that?
@ScottDavenport Жыл бұрын
Hi Don, that’s a layered workflow. Do the masking to isolate your subject with a layer mask. Then add another layer with your background.

Thanks Scott, watched a couple of times and now have 2023 myself. I have a flower head with a plain off-white background, hoping that mask AI would provide a pretty good mask around the flower as I want to texturise the background. I am finding the masking is not very accurate, by either selecting the background or the flower. Even the flora option does not see the flower. I am wondering if there is a sensitive setting so that AI sees the edges better, or perhaps I am not using it correctly.

I did this action with raw 2022- using masking with AI and using the brushes to remove surrounding of flower and keeping the flower- could easily refine it
@colintucker7140 Жыл бұрын
@@lawrencecohen3860 Thanks for your help. I was doing something similar with my 2022 version. I was hoping that the new AI might help with the masking process, to perhaps make that part of post processing quicker. However still learning its functions though.
@ScottDavenport Жыл бұрын
Hi Colin ... there isn't a sensitivity setting I've found. Assuming the flower is not an off-white color, I'm surprised it wouldn't pick up on that. If there is a strong enough color differential, you may try a color range mask instead. Super Select is very cool, but not always the answer (I continue to turn to luminosity masks for my landscapes often)
@edwardkillesteyn1479 Жыл бұрын
With Mask AI and super super select AI is there a way to feather the mask. This would seem to be important to avoid hard edges. Thanks.
@ScottDavenport Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Once you've made a mask with Mask AI or Super Select AI, you can open the masking options in the Effects filter/Local Adjustment/Layer and use all of the Masking Options. The Feather slider will add a softness to the edges everywhere. You can also use any of the other masking tools (brushes, refine tools) to fine tune the mask.

Is compositing a possibility with this software?
@ScottDavenport2 жыл бұрын
Yes. Photo RAW supports layers, blending modes, layer masks, etc.
@tadeuszcynkowski21972 жыл бұрын
Everything looks very exciting but what worries me most is precision of the masks. I watched practically all videos on On1 2023 so far and in most cases quality of the masks is very poor. I hope they will improve that in release version.
@ScottDavenport2 жыл бұрын
Do keep in mind the initial red/blue overlays with Mask AI and Super Select AI are "rough". When the change is committed, the masks are generally more precise. I do still use the other masking tools to clean things up... nevertheless, my workflow is faster leveraging the object-aware masking.

Good afternoon. I am a portrait photographer. Can you explain to me if this is worth the portrait IA ?
@ScottDavenport2 жыл бұрын
Hi Victor ... As I'm not a portrait photographer by trade, I'm not the very best suited to answer this question. I think Portrait AI is quite good and I use it. I'll suggest this ... download a trial of the standalone Portrait AI 2022. The Portrait AI tools are not changing significantly in Photo RAW 2023. If you like what you see in the product today, you can consider getting all of Photo RAW, or just the Portrait AI standalone/plugin. Hope that helps.
