I totally get the "you become Dracula" experience. I used to be terrified of Halloween as a kid, but one year I decided to stay home with my parents giving out candy, and we were always a "scary house" compared to others so I dressed up, got a friend involved and we were scaring the other kids. It sort of turned the entire holiday into something fun for me! Then over the years it grew, we got animations, set up tents they have to go through with a little maze. I got my friends involved more and more and got to do some really great costumes. Always coming up with something from parts instead of just buying a straight up costume. Now I love the holiday! Love going to scary events and haunted houses and it all started with me just being something else instead of that scared kid.

I was so glad I got to come this year! I'm sad I didn't get a chance to talk to Ed and Marsha, but I got a lot of inspiration and enjoyed talking to everyone. One of these days I'll start making my own masks!

I remember the Planet of the Apes mask making kit we had back in the 70’s to wearing the Grim reaper costume in high school to making a latex mask with the help of my friend Tommy Martinek . I still have the cast of my face from 40 years ago. I really appreciate your work and the work at this show was amazing!!

Yes, wasn't that a neat story about the original Body Snatchers movie.

I was lucky in the 80's that my local costume shop had Distortions products. I could only afford a couple, but I loved going in just to look and admire. It's good to see so many people that were effected in the same way.

Thanks so much for sharing your story! Where was your local shop located? Do you remember the first Distortions pieces you got?

Joe Sam's Fun Shop in Pasadena, Tx. They just went out of business a couple of years ago. I got the Letcher mask, the Batman mask, and a severed arm that I believe was from Distortions.@@DistortionsUnlimited

I love the Saucerman. I remember seeing photos of it in the theater lobby in 1957 as a coming attraction and thought "That's a scary guy". I was disappointed seeing the movie on TV and finding out it was kind of a comedy.

How do you keep masks from drying out?
@DistortionsUnlimited Жыл бұрын
That would be a good question for all collectors. We have had a lot of success preserving our masks in good quality by keeping them stuffed (so they keep their shape), bagged (with a clear plastic bag), and out of sun light when not displayed. We have a video on how to keep your latex masks in good condition. Sunlight and certain light will degrade latex. The original quality of the latex will also determine how long it lasts. But there are many Distortions masks from the late 70's and 80's that are still in great shape. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4S7pnl9r7-egZYsi=0RfOVaFEWGnRGuT9
