“A young woman, coming to consciousness, realizing that she is at a king´s court. She meets a young man and discovers, after short romance, that she is in fact a killer in form of an insect with artificial intelligence - built by the king to kill the lover. The question of awareness in machines, a reoccuring theme in Lem´s work, has a special reading here. The woman/ machine develops a conscience and in the end it’s open, if she can get rid of her programming.” This is such an eerie fitting animated interpretation of the pursuit of coherent identity. What is one’s “own” and what is the “other”. And of course, love. Brothers Quay never fail to deliver horrifyingly beautiful films.

HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT THE BROTHERS QUAY ARE STILL MAKING FILMS!!! Wow, it's been a while for these two, like, a decade since they made a film, I thought they were done...but now I can fangasm all over again.

You ever watch something with zero context and by the end of it you have no idea what happened during your acid trip? This video was that for me.

What a intense and catastrophe story. I love the unknown, the obscure, the intriguing. But more than this I love storyline along with substancial messages, love itself (even odd ones), touching, sensitive, enthralling. What a tragic and emotional story. I don’t what’s best: storytelling, storyline, script, the characters themselves. Perfect the beginning to end

You should check out "The Cabinet of Jan Švankmajer", it's a beautiful (and batshit insane) homage the Quay Brothers made in honor of their primary inspiration.

I Love the brothers Quay! Although I think if redone or a different adaptation was made from Lem's original short story and made more sci-fi it would be perfect for that show, "Love, Death and Robots" it wouldn't be the work of art this is but would still be pretty cool
